Like the title says , i would like to see for new players like me to have the chance to buy second hand ships . Like cars u can buy second hand .... a ship after alot of milage should loose some values ... and make it affordable for new players to buy a second hand ship instead of a new one. This could be extended to ship equipment too.
That would open up also a new trade the " Junk dealer " and also a new isk sink . Anyways just a thought .

Btw a bit offtopic : whats with this "discuss" thing? i've seen it a lot and more ofthen then not it makes me not want to post.
So you saying if i buy a new golf build in 2005 ... its same good as a golf bought in 1995 ? ......... What i want to see that say the hull of the ship or it's armor would decrease or the speed of the ship or maybe even one high mid or low slot might not be able anymore to be used .
So these ships would have less value to sell . But new players wich just started or maybe older " stingshy" players say oh well lest buy that second hand Apoc with one less low slot for 60 mill instead of 110 mill.
Hope i explained it better for you to follow . Older players in this game have enough money allrdy ... but younger players would still be able to afford these ships even so with a handicap.
cheers

Originally by: Jennai tutorial agents give you plenty of money to buy a frigate, skills, etc.
ship costs are determined by mineral prices. often they're only pulling a 5-10% profit margin, and if they sell any cheaper then people could profit by buying them and reprocessing, or if it's really cheap, insuring it and self-destructing.
A second hand ship would obviously not have the same minerals reprocessed then a new one !!!! So no profit for the players wich think that could be an easy money making thingy.
Btw it would also add to diversity i mentioned in combat especially in p v p and also in equipment of the ship if you handicaped not to fly a brand new ship .

Originally by: Sam Comco I was wondering the same question yesterday, actually. Course you just know everybody will scream bloody hell if you introduce item decay to make "second hand" items a possiblity
Item decay could be i think a good idea , with the restriction if the item was used , i would suggest.
Say for example i find a nice named railgun , but i never equip it or use it on a ship ... would obviously stay new . But if i use it say for 50-100 hours that railgun might be not shooting anymore so accurate or not so fast , because its used .

Originally by: Lady Lorna An interesting concept but how would the ship degrade?
I know you mentioned the loss of a slot but what I mean is... will it degrade over time? Or will it degrade through damage?
The problem would be is that if a ship has a gradual degrade tehn teh whole price of ships would fall causing problems on market.
I Think teh system is fine as it is. If you buy a ship you're paying the price for a ship that will stay constant. Also you have to earn ans work hard for good ships but it's not hard once you kow what your'er doing.
However it wuold add an extra element of realism but there are other thigns to sort out first before this is even considered.
I think there could be factors like dmg aswell as usage over time . It would benefit for both new and old players . new players .
It would be a good isk sink .. Example you have a new BS ... and you use it say for x-amount of hours ... there would be a chance that the ship looses on value . So if the ship looses on value this player could consider now to sell the ship and buy himself a new ship or keep on using a slightly less effective ship.
Anyways ... thx for the discussion so far .

the sudden introduction of item decay would have serious effects on the economy. named modules would drop as everyone switches to T1 because they're cheaper to replace when they start going bad, and mineral costs would skyrocket as everyone is buying new ships and kit all the time and the old ones don't recycle to full mineral value.
it would also cause an enormous database load since the server would have to track every individual module on every ship.
and 0.0 would have even more logistical problems, it's hard enough to replace lost ships there as it is.
Would actually be easier to replace lost ships because you could buy a second hand ship
