But I feel that all these developments are trying to put icing on the cake, when the actual cake itself isn't finished yet! Does anyone else feel that they would like to see a reliable server before all these fancy new bells and whistles are brought in?
Personally, I'd rather see my subscription money going all-out to find ways to reduce lag, cut down on unscheduled downtimes, and make tranquility much more capable of handling these 15k-player loads that CCP themselves are telling us are on the horizon, than having it spent on new features that, whilst nice, seem to be papering over some fairly fundamental c.racks in the gameplaying experience.
You got my vote for a more stable & bugfree gameplay & server. The new features can be coded after that.

Originally by: Manny Tanato All the fan boys round here make me sick. This game is nothing more than a paid service. People pay a certain amount of money for this service, CCP is expected to deliver. T'is business, plain and simple.
I really despise companies that fail to deliver what their customers have paid for. If CCP's capabilities and limitations are insufficient to the task, they should have the integrity to confine themselves to what they can do well (consistently). Not make a fantastic and immense undertaking and then have their paying customers constantly complaining about sub-par quality.
This complaint is not limited to just these constant DTs that we have been having since 3 or 4 weeks ago. It includes various and sundry bugs (like the darn dangerous overview bug), GM and re-imbursement quality and consistency, etc.
You might wanna look into exactly what you agreed to be paying for, I'll give you a hint. It's not the perfect game with 24/7 uptime 365 days a year.

Turns out this problem, as expected, was hardware related. Hence, nothing to do with the code, and nothing that the coders can fix.

Things to do while the server is down * Give your mom a call, she'll appreciate it. * Go outside and watch the sky. * Say hi to your girlfriend/boyfriend. That's the person at the other computer. * Take a shower and shave. * Make a list of things you can do while the servers are down. With a bit of luck they'll be up when you've finished the list. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * dont think she would appreciate a call at 1.30am *its dark and raining * its 1.30am *not much else to do at 1.30am

Well, all i can say is the string of locked 'FIX THIS OMG' threads is starting to make the general forum look like WoW's general forum. Please, PLEASE, don't let it become such a place. The thought makes me retch.
Yes, this thread IS for server issues. So post away. Just don't cover the front page of general with the stuff.

10 of the servers out = 80% running... => 100% = 50 servers??? Isn't that the problem? 50 Servers to cater to 14k+ players?

Each node is more than capable of handling 280 players, unless they all insist on being in the same grid.
280 people in different grids = 280*1 = 280 notifications per action
280 people in the same grid = 280*280 = 78400 notifications per action
Hence why the hub systems remain playable with numbers that would see a fleet battle implode.

I'm not sure what went wrong, all I know is i've lost 16+ hours of training time cause I was not able to log in before work.
I still say CCP should impliment Boosters and give each account (1 character per account) enough boosters to make up for potential lost training time each time they have problems.

It's kind of ironic how there's so much hate in this thread... then when the server goes live again... we break the 15k barrier...

Through all of this today was there ONE offical post by one of the devs or some one EMPLOYED by CCP. NO. WHY? From what i see CCP really need to higher a commity realations person who is also a dev. With that a large part of there JOB would be just to reply on the forums. The kind of stuff we know what the problem is or that is a good idea kind of thing. That way it looks like there is a least comunication between us and the devs.

I am sure CCP has community relation persons posting under disguise of normal players. You will ask why? My answer will be: ôBecause I see many reply in forums that have only one purpose û to shot up any complains and to discredit posters instead of answering on difficult questions.ö

Erm, the Devs made their official announcement of the problem through the MOTD, which is what it was designed for. Sure, we could have got Kieron on here posting regular updates. But if he's going to know what's going on, he'll have to be told by the Devs trying to fix the problem. Which is taking the Dev's away from fixing the problem. Which is bad.
Besides, what's really the point of having detailed updates from the devs anyway? Most players wouldn't understand the details anyway, and even those that do aren't in any position to actually help. Sure, it'd be nice to get a full dev blog about it when the issue is resolved, but during the crisis it's a distraction to the devs that just isn't necessary.

If only that were true - I'd be a lot richer, for starters! The truth is that there are some people on here that appreciate the challenges the Devs face and know that they always put in 100% effort. We also recognise that the server resides in the Real-Life world where things go wrong and that Eve going offline for a few hous is an oppourtunity to do something else, rather than the end of the world/personal affront/violation of human rights etc. We also recognise that we have not paid for, and are not entitled to 100% uptime.
And quite frankly some of us are getting sick of seeing people throwing their toys out of the pram every time something doesn't go exactly the way they want.
