NOTE: A SERIOUS POST, if you devs/mods are going to ban it, send me an email explaining the reason
Ok, lets face it, EVE is a game, it was made to be fun.
Now the hard part is that CCP's job is to make us (the client base) happy. Since no one can be absolutlely happy, the framework to make us happy is the eve-game and the enviroment that surrounds it.
We all have come to terms with the famous "downtime". We have come to terms with the fact that patches have unwanted glitches and flaws, and we accept everybody is human and prone to error, hence we dont go around CCP's office burning cars and filing lawsuits (although i can see a couple of guys doint that).
The fact that NON-PLANNED downtime occurs is not the customer problem, its CCP's problem. But it has a direct impact on our "enjoyment" of the game and how we deal with repeated ocurrences of non-planned downtime or game glitches.
So lets do a simple analysis here on a hypotetical case:
My group of eve-friends gets together during the week and we plan a cool event for saturday. Everyone agrees at the schedule and we are set.
Mom ask her gradnma to take care of the kids for a couple of hours, Husband ask for permission to her beloved Wife, Brother ask Sister to let him use the computer and Grandpa talks to Grandma so she can go to her friends house to play bridge.
Everyone arranges his/her own personal life so the event takes place, and AFTER it is done, makeup for being such an eve junky and go out for dinner or do something in return.
On Saturday after downtime, cluster has problems (dont even ask what, thats not the issue) and the result is no access to the game for the players.
For those who wanted to complex *****, no gain. For those who wanted to do events, schedule is lost. For those who just wanted to train a skill, time window is lost and he/she probably will not get another shot until tomorrow.
So what? is a game right?... WRONG. We are paying, and this DETRACTS from our enjoyment of the game.
So how about some compensation?
Well many will say, YEAH RIGHT CCP WILL NOT RETURN A PENNY!, well if they returned something then you will spend it somewhere else, they want it to be spent on EVE. So what can be done?
I propose a type of compensation that could be well received by everyone.
ISK
Yes in-game money, for every hour CCP has a NON-PLANNED downtime or UN-SCHEDULED HOTFIX, 100.000isk added to your wallet in-game (ammount should be discussed by game designers, not us).
It might sound cheesy, buying everyone off with in-game money. But i approach the concept on the base of cost-opportunity. The chance to make profit or do something in the game was cut short by a technical problem, CCP's fault? i say absolutly not, client's fault? absolutely not.
Then why not take the same approach GM's do when players petition the reimbursement of a lost ship or module by the freak ocurrence of something unexepected?.
EVERYONE GETS 100.000isk /per hour for the downtime.
People dont get as grumpy as it could have been, knowing he/she just "wasted" 4 hours of his life waiting for the server to come back up.....instead he/she knew "oh well" at least is gonna be some free ISK....IN COMPENSATION.
SO CCP, please consider options to "soften up" the customer after such terrible things happen that affects everyone, it doesnt need to be more days of paying time or a free month of subscription, it just needs to be something we all (EVEN TRIALS) can grasp within the game.
I say this because there is a limited number of times one can say "sorry" for the same thing, and you could start losing people for not believing in your product or your commitment to it.

**** happens sometimes and you got to live with it.
Computers sometimes fail or maybe some jerk hit the wrong switch. So what, they fixed it.
Its the nature of internet games. So many parts are reqired to make the game work, your computer, the isps, power supply, internet backbones, game servers, hosting companies, beer etc. One part fails, you can't play eve, thats when the beer comes in handy.
To be honest its so damn complex I am surprised it works at all, but we do OK don't we?
If you don't like the unreliabity of internet games buy a pack of cards (and some beer) as back up.
Problem solved.

Well im not too bothered about it really,, however atm it is abit annoying sorting out a HAC in niya and it takes 30-40secs to do anything from warping -> docking -> put 1 item in cargo hold -> undocking takes like 5-10Mins :/ i would rather they just added a free day onto every1 a/c if they where goingto do anything.

I highly doubt that any compensation will be given. And rightfully so. Why should they have to? Things happen, and I'm sure they do their best to fix things. If you dont like the game, if you want to complain about the programming, if you think the code sucks, please, by all means, take your little $15 to another place and let us play the game without having to see the numerous threads about why you couldn't play your video game when you wanted to. I'm surprised the devs/mods dont delete every thread like this.. stupid...

sweet mother of god, it could go do for 5 days and i couldnt care, im paying for it yeah.... but its not the end of the world was things go belly up, tell me how many other games you play that allow 15000 people to play together at once? Problems occur, just deal with it. I really dislike people who take the "I am the paying customer CCP, BOW BEFORE ME" i get it at work, and they expect you to bend over backwords for them and if they dont get their way they threaten to cancel their membership, if they become wholly unreasonable (for nothing special at all) i tell where to stick their membership.
Problems happen, theres about 30,000 other paying customers, and theyre not looking for compensation.

Please read the EULA.
Everytime you log into EVE, you agree to the conditions stated within...
"While CCP attempts to have the System available at most times, CCP does not guarantee that the System will always be available, or that the System will not become unavailable during Game play. The System may become unavailable for a number of reasons, including without limitation during the performance of maintenance to the System, for the implementation of new software, for emergency situations and due to equipment or telecommunications failures."
Learn it, know it, live it...
And please stop your ridiculous complaining...if you don't like the conditions of use, go somewhere else...please...

U're such a ****** ****** ccp give you the chance to conect to 15,000 people all around the world at the same time, have fun playing a bloody good game (of which you get free, content and patches i might add) and you demand that they give you IN GAME MONEY as compensation it's all well and good that there should be some way to get back any skill points lost due to lack of training but most people in eve probably didn't lose any due to the temporary outage. Even so it's only 3-4 hours worth of SP at the most which you could get back by training some extra learning skills or whatever. The chances are that you would have lost hardly any or no skill points from this server crash and since ccp already give you the chance to train skills while you're not even in the game i think you should stop complaining and go get a life. No - It sounds like it'll just devalue ISK when someone gets the bright idea of creating half a bazillion trial accounts to farm ISK. Further, 100K is a fortune to some, pocket change to others [including myself, and I'm hardly on the top of the foodchain]. This would satisfy a select few at best.
You want a stable game? Expect to pay for it. It's not like extra QA is free, ya know... CCP is allready "compensating" us with lower monthly fees than we'd be paying otherwise.

Quoted for truth...
To the origional poster .. This was just a minor blip.. This game gets stronger and stronger.. we do have issues, alot less than any other MMORPG though .. Trust me, go play WoW or SWG (both now on the decline) .. This is a proper community game and one that we take pride in.. not some stupid hack and slash..
Get over it, so you couldnt play for a few hours, big deal, its about the long run.

Despite being unable to connect to the servers with your client. You were still playing the game.
When you sleep, you are still playing the game, infact even when your having rampant sex with your right hand, you are still playing the game. How so? Skills.
During downtime a "restricted" game comes into play in which you cannot alter your characters settings, nor "interact" with the game world. But! your character still trains.
CCP owe us nothing, the game continued on.
They held up their end of the bargain, we pay for gametime in our subscriptions, they give us game time. 23hrs a day normally its interactive, and then for the final hour downtime occurs in which the gameplay turns non-interactive.
I signed the free day thread well because everyone loves something for nothing, and I did like you honestly believe that I was owed something. However after reading through the EULA and using my brain for once, you can see that what they did was neither illegal, nor poor customer service. They maintained training, and worked to resolve any issues on the servers as much as possible.
On a slightly related note, 100,000isk is a pityful amount and if you really are that desperate for that cash evemail me in game and I'll donate it to you, im a relatively new player (2 and a half months ish) and even I think 100,000isk is chump change.
If this was a serious post, you would have checked the terms and conditions you agreed to prior to posting, you would have researched the distance selling regulations, and you would have researched into the legal standpoint. They do not owe us anything, however if they do give us something then it will be much appreciated im sure.

If you have nothing else to do for 4 hours waiting for the server to come up ....
You forget that the server is often up after about 30 minutes, so when that happens, thats 30 minutes where they improve on their planned availability.
So after 8 days of what has now almost become normal service they can afford a 4 hour downtime and still be in plan.
Every now and again something goes wrong, and TBH it's not as though it's daily or even weekly.

I was actually up that early trying to start a new skill training.
I lost two hours training time because of the outage.
Now, that doesn't in and of it self bother me, the fact that CCP has never bothered to program any sort of training que that would have prevented it from hapening as well as saving me and I am sure a lot of other players a lot of grief trying to fit training end times around a real life work schedule does bother me.
Furthermore while CCP is patting themselves on the back over there 15K simultaneous online ( a number that would make any other MMOLG fold in embarasment ) they fail to mention how often the server is downright unplayable and offer nothing short of a too bad soo sad come back so we can screw you again policy when you lose ships or implants because of there servers inability to meet the demands placed upon it.
Furthermore, because CCP can't meet the demand they keep removing content and dumbing down the visuals to lighten the load on the comodore vic 20's they got running the game giving us a cheaper game experience.
I hate to say it but its time they reward the player base for that magic 15K they wanted and look at some serious performance upgrades and reintroduction of the bells and whistles.
