Hi guys, been playing the game for a little while, enjoying it.
I'm about to go on a 3-week holiday, where i can't reliably get internet access, and i don't want my skill queue to run 'dry' while I'm gone. I've got some skills that take 8 days to train, so i'd only need to change it a couple of times, but i will need to update it at those times.
The meat of my question is that i've seen some program floating around on the web, "Mofiki\'s Eve Online Skill Trainer" which purports to allow you to remotely manage your skill queue, being able to add new skills etc.
1: has anyone used this, and if so: did it work? 2: Is this a 'legal' tool to use, and would I get in trouble?
Thanks much,
Sam |

While I'm no authority on this I don't think it's legal. As far as I know you must not use any programs that interfere with the EVE client.
I would recommend you just queue a skill like Advanced Weapons Upgrades 5 or Drone Interfacing 5. darmwand Repossession Agent http://www.repo-corp.net/ Recruitment is OPEN |

My gut feeling after a quick google search is that using that program could get you a ban. Macros in general are not allowed in EVE.
Besides, I really wouldn't be comfortable with putting my login details into a third party program. That sort of thing can lead to account hacking..

Fine in theory, but if he isn't going to have reliable Internet access for logging into EVE, how is he supposed to run a Remote Desktop that uses far more bandwidth?

Try windows autokey, make a windows task to run it and eve at the proper time then use a autokey script to update you skill queue. I think it's legal also. However I am not responsible for any loss if it's not legal. |

Yeah.....plugin up to Battleship V.
I wouldn't look for this capability any time soon, considering what had to be gone through to even get a Skill Queue implemented in the game (yes, the queue used to not even exist). I'm guessing that is not within CCP's allowed use policy. It can't be done through the published API so any application that claims to allow you to change skills is doing so in a manner not published by CCP. Which raises the question:
How safe do you think your account details will be in the hands of an online capable application that operates outside of the CCP published API?
I wouldn't take the risk, personally. If you have enough time before your holiday train up one of those 8 day skills (If it's like a level 4) and hope the level 5 will cover your time away. Otherwise, look for one of the guides on how to run EVE off a removable device (Memory stick, etc.) so you can potentially change your skill queue from the hotel internet access / similar?

Anything that could login to your account and update your skill queue for you while your not there will get you banned if caught.
Best option is to queue up a long skill, some good ones that will apply to most any ship you fly are Drone Interfacing 5, Sentry Drone Interfacing 5 or Heavy Drone Operation 5.

You might be able to take care of updating skills on dial-up. EVE's not super strict about bandwidth or latency. This is EVE - Everybody Versus Everybody.

This is why I love EVE. I can go on a 2 month vacation and come back with Titan V ready. Plus all my macros will make sure I don't stop AFK mining in highsec either. Finally, CCP will ban my account and I will not be salve to this game any longer. If you're willing to take the risk of banning that goes with using forbidden programs then you may as well just find someone you actually trust with your account info (sibling, girlfriend, etc) instead. Still not officially kosher, mind you, but a lot safer than trusting some anonymous software company. Live Events are neither. |

Remote management of skill qeues has been a long standing wish for many, some for very understandable and good reasons (i.e., military deployments). That said, the last thing CCP wants (or needs for that matter) is for anyone to not have to log in at least once and a while. Not to mention, and I'm admitedly no guru on this, I can imagine that would be possibly a bit risky in terms of acount security. I could be way off on that last part, but that's what I've seen many state when asked why CCP won't allow this sort of thing. It's a crapy grey area unfortunately, as it could be very benificial to alot of people but it could be just as detremental as well. |

What i do is pause the current skill search for a skill that takes weeks to finish there are plenty, turn it on go on holliday you come back and the long skills is learn. Now perhaps you lose some time but he its always better than 2 days you on your holliday and the skill is finish. But again i call a friend or my mother yes my mother to set a skill on dont care with one. I know it perhaps forbidden but i chance the password afther that so no worries. |

CCP should just add indefinite skill queues. As long as we pay this feature is feasible. A skill queue with 24h won't make me play more often. New inventory: Getting better since version 1.2, but what about back and forward buttons? |

You started playing 15 days ago...... Pretty bad planning to start a monthly sub game when you knew you were going on a 3 week holiday so soon.
I understand you wont have access yet to some of the really long training time skills, so Just build the longest skill queue setup you can.
Really, loosing a week of skilling isn't going to matter in the long run.

Perhaps not the best long-term planning, but I was bored. Also, it seemed a lot further away back then :P |
