I have come and gone from Eve a few times. My work generally picks up in the summer and so I have to scrub Eve from my machine and move on. I have tried on occasion to leave Eve during slow times and the way that generally goes is that I remove it from my computer and then reload it 2 or 3 days latter =-P.
Do I spend too much time playing Eve? Yes probably.
Would I be doing something more productive if not playing Eve? Unlikely lol. I tend to play Eve instead of doing things that are unpleasant but will need to be taken care of eventually. But eventually I end up taking care of those things, and if I wasn't procrastinating with Eve it would be something else.
I smoked while I was in the navy, the ship pulled in and I checked out on terminal leave and never had so much as a craving to smoke another cigarette. In a few months we are moving, I am very curious if my desire to play Eve will fade in the same way that my desire to smoke did.
Time will tell.
Are you here against your will or better judgement? Is the time that you devote to Eve well spent? Would you stop playing if you could? I love Eve and enjoy the time spent with people here, some of my greatest memories are from MMO's even though I have been around the world and seen many strange and wonderful things. How about you?
Just a funny question that came to mind reading Vilnius' post in one of the current threads. -áCorebloodbrothers & Ali Aras for CSM: Ring mining & bottom up income, new player balance, NRDS

You can always try to quite, but like great *******, EVE is a cruel mistress.

I would not say i have tried to "really" quit EVE.. But i have had breaks
Longest break was just now before x-mas when i realized i was in null-sec (hbc) and EVE had stopped being fun.. I left in september, but was back in january/february, left "dull-sec" for greener pastures in lo-sec and whoops i was back in EVE on a daily basis :)
The problem for me is that EVE is what i always dreamt about.. imo im born a few thousand years to soon

Am totally addicted. I unsubbed about 10 of my accounts during the summer of love, and tried to let go of my 2 "main" accounts, but failed miserably.
Now I am resigned to death parting us.
And yes, I play Eve when I shouldn't be, and RL stuff gets procrastinated (though eventually done).
(Probably as a escapist) I believe Eve helps me tolerate and survive this totally absurd existence. Happiness is a warm gun, mama. |

What do you define as quit? I played way too much during the months of November and December and decided to take a "break." All I did from January to about two weeks ago was log in once every few dains to update my training. Now I'm back to playing. Was what I did "quitting"? I don't know.

You never truly quit Eve like you would quit WoW or GW2 or something. You may uninstall it for a bit or just let your sub lapse or even just not play and let your queue continue, but you never REALLY quit Eve.
Ever notice wondering about how Eve is doing when you're on hiatus? Every time you see a cool-looking sci-fi movie, you always think, "Eve should be made into a movie...it would be the greatest sci-fi movie of all time". You still read the books. You still watch the vids on Youtube. You still check on the game every time an expansion is released to see if you wanna come back.
No, you never truly quit Eve. You may unsub or uninstall the game, but you never really quit Eve. Eve isn't just a game, it's an entire world filled with mini-societies. Eve is reality dressed up as a video game, and you can't quit reality unless you off yourself. Many people hardly play the game anymore, yet they're still CEOs and alliance bosses...hell just look at the whole Mittens fiasco. He didn't even log in anymore and he was elected to the CSM.
No, friend...you can never truly leave Eve. Eve will be with you forever. |

I wanted to quit. Instead I made a good investment which pays off a PLEX a month and now I just take the **** on the forums instead of actually 'playing' the game. Much more fun.

This reeks of a "I'm 400 lbs and I can't stop eating, has anyone else here ever tried to stop eating?" thread. Those who have TRIED to quit, aren't here anymore, aside from the forum junkies. If you're still here, you haven't exactly tried to quit, you just gave it some thought, then changed your mind. We all know how to quit, we just don't try to do it, those of us that still play, because we don't like the thought of giving all our stuff away and deleting our characters. When you quit a job, you clean out your desk, give up your office, your parking space, etc. You don't leave it all there, and say "Well, I'm quitting, but I'm gonna leave everything here still, just incase!" It sounds like you have never spent time dreaming when you should have been: doing laundry, emptying the dishwasher, washing the car, vacuuming, cleaning the loo, getting checks sent off to pay bills, writing thankyou letters, getting to sleep because tomorrow is a big day. If that's the case then this thread is none of your concern and you really can't contribute anything to it.
But there are people who do not have perfect time management skills or focus, those difficulties are compounded by very engaging alternate activities. Whether it be cooking, art, reading, movies, moneymaking, philosophy, or stamp collecting.
This thread is just a check to see how Eve fits into those categories and how people make things work.

I've never "quit" in the sense that I've never really stopped playing of my own accord. I did put my accounts on hold last year when I was saving for my wedding (and for some reason that $30 a month had to go according to she who must be obeyed). However that whole time I kept up with current events in Eve and missed the summer of rage (which would have made me quit anyway). Came back in the middle of last year and like the direction Eve is going now so wild horses couldn't pull me away. |

I've only been playing for about a year and half but I enjoy this game immensely and don't see myself giving up any time soon. Quitting EVE like someone stated would be comparable to quitting smoking. You may say, "hey, I'm done." But you'll always have that little devil tapping on your shoulder.
Even though I haven't tried to quit EVE, I know the feeling of giving up on an MMO. I played WoW since Vanilla and only gave in about a month before I found EVE and I still get that urge to go back and kill cartoony creatures. I haven't yet gave in because I am running 2 accounts here and don't feel the need to pay another $15 a month on an inferior game. |

Can't quit Eve yet, as it's still utterly unique among MMO's. But the bittervet in me also thinks CCP is bound and determined to turn this game into space WOW. There are a couple very specific things I love about this game, and the moment CCP finally wrecks those, Eve will be as easy to put down as anything else. |

They'd have to kill the forums too. |

You can checkout anytime you like, but you can never leave.
I quit playing, removed EVE, bought a house, impregnated my gf... and now i'm back...
I'd like a space burial when my time is up please. |

I quit once, and then the very nice people from CCP came and we had a nice "chat" about my subscription.
And i can walk quite well with out my crutches now, the doctors are positive on a full recovery. Thanks to CCP having my card details i never have to worry about quitting again, thank you CCP for teaching me the error of my ways... |

I never really tried to quit, but did cancel my alts. I'm much happier playing just one account than I was multiboxing. I sometimes take long breaks and just log in to train skills, but recently I've been playing actively again after a lull. |

I've quit twice now. But i keep coming back but the strange thing is if i buy or resub to anything. I think about the game will i enjoy it and i dont with eve i just resub and go ahead.
I think most importantly is finding the perfect social corp to keep you going. Think i may have found mine :) Don't hate me for beeing scottish, hate yourself for not beeing scottishGäó |
