well... that's the reason I stopped playing starcraft multi.
In the beggining I had the shakes, then I had serious shakes. After a while I started getting obsessed with "what if..." scenarios whenever I was about to play a game. After a year and a half playing starcraft like mad, I had the "incident" that put me to my place: I was on vacations on a city and a friend wanted to check his emails, so we went to netcafe. I saw some ppl playing starcraft there, I saw how they played and I knew I couldn't loose to em, but I asked for a game anyway. When the guy said "sure, why not", the shakes came back and everything went gloomy.
That was the last time I ever went near to starcraft, and if I start getting the shakes in eve, that will be my undoing. I never wanna get to that point again.
Hence, I specialize in a very calm ship

I used to get the shakes very bad, however things that helped were just practice, also I keep spare fits and ships around so that sort of limits the feeling of loss. The more times you do it the easier it gets, practice with your corpmates too, something bigger than frigs though as they are too easy to pop.
Learning is better done in training with your corp mates than in a real battle as you don't die when you make mistakes. Things like queing up your guns and mod mid warp whilst en route to the target is good so that when you control click on them in overview everything is engaged as soon as they get locked up. If in hostile country keep you hardners ticking over, sure you eat some cap but it's better to have them on by default than forget to activate them in the rush.
Also try and keep the same things in the same slots on different ships so you are not having to learn where things are. For example I always have MWD on the left, armor reps on the right etc. With practice you can get into a routine so that you have time to think.
Anyway the above works for me.

I stopped getting the shakes after loosing my 2nd HAC.When you are on a limited wallet and loose a ship with such a high price, low availability and crappy insurance you get pretty disilusioned it seems.
1 muninn,2 vagabonds lost and counting
I think it's good though, makes you appreciate ships for what they are and not treat them as hangar ornaments.

I have to say that there is nothing quite like a smoke after a successful PvP engagement. If you haven't tried it you're missing out on the finer things in life.
Can be bad for your health though...
...I once decided to nip out for a smoke between fights, so I spun my chair around, stood up and started to run to the door.
Unfortunately, I failed to notice that my chair spinning had resulted in my headphone lead getting wrapped around my feet. I ended up sprawled across my wooden floor, whincing like an injured child.
Worse, my cigarette snapped. ______________________________________________

Guide to being calm in PVP Go out with experienced players, their calm on TS/vent will do effect on you. If you smoke, smoke indoors, at the computor, i tried to smoke outside, didnt work. If you drink coffe, have a cup by the computor. and then, just try to focus, a coupple of fleet engagements, youll be cool as a glass of icetea.

Indeed. Hunting with a large group or in a big fleet engagement certainly helps. Your mates are usually very calm, and you can get a feel for whats going on around you without having to be the "target" of everything. Well, unless you are the unlucky one in the group. :)

Sometimes I take my headset off as the sound of my warp scrambler tends to set my heart racing.
....and definately being with other experienced guys has great calming effect.

It goes away?
I dont have what you'd call the shakes, but I never want that rush feeling togo away, it's why I play EvE.
"Oh...lets go kill so and so."
vs.
"GO GO GO, *BLANK* IS PRIMARY" ---------------------------------- I play EvE and I don't even get a stupid signature. |

After all the fleet fights, small skirmishes, ganks, 1v1's and all the other PvP encounters I've had over the last few years I can still get major butterflies and minor shakes before and during a fight.
Even when commanding large fleets and being calm on TS I can still be a total mess inside because of the excitement of PvP in Eve, that sense of loss or accomplishment is second to no other game out there.
At the end of the day it's just your body doing that age old "fight or flight" preparation. The trick is to recognise that all that heightened tension is there to help you it sharpens the senses and increases your awareness as well as at times being confusing and causing you to freeze.
What enables you to function despite all that nervous reaction going on is experience, there's no substitute for it. It's experience that gets you aligned to get out when you're getting pounded, it's experience that makes you remember to turn on your hardeners when the red mist descends and you're focusing on your target, it's experience that tells you that even when you go down you'll get another ship because it's only isk and it's only a game (although it may be the greatest game ever created!).
The day I stop getting the rush when going into a fight is the day it's time to hang up my boots.

I found one of those nice slave implants and yesterday I went to bring it up to empire. That was 65 jumps of panic!
I love EVE because it makes me feel alive. Keep that feeling mate. As long as you feel it you are alive.

Originally by: Layrex Well if you are quite new to pvp everyone gets like that at first, it's because you have something to lose with eve so you get a bit of adrenaline. It does die off somewhat with experience.
I used to get so shakey I couldn't think.
Heh, yeah Im there now. Course the endless g*ddamn aligning, jumping across the entire universe and then finding one target might contribute a sense of anticipation. This in turn helped me to forget that BS's often have SB's....
Forunatly I dont use implants so I stayed around for the second blast from the SB and woke up in Autaris.

There is nothing wrong with you. What you describe is how you know you are still alive in real life.
I was in a merc corp for a short time on another char, and we went to war in empire with a miner corp, and out of the station here comes this big old Raven just spamming torps at all the elite frigates (and not hitting any of them) when suddenly the station guns open up on him destroying him.
In his panic, even though no one was even shooting AT him, just avoiding his torps, he must have targetted the station (no neutral ships were there) and everyone was laughing at the poor guy in local. But I didn't. I could just imagine myself doing that, too, if you get excited enough. I mean I've never done anything like that but it's just human.
I've seen many funny mistakes made. People are human. They make mistakes. I think most of the miner care bears are people who just can't handle all that pain and loss constantly getting podded in 0.0 I have to take regular and long breaks from the stress of 0.0 but then I miss it and want to go back... |

Originally by: Jah'Ret Khan I seem to have a bad problem and I need to figure out how to solve it. Having had some good and bad PVP encounters I am finding it really hard these days. Every time I hit PVP I get such a rush and I get all panic'd and jumpy. I can't focus and almost shake. Am I suffering performance anxiety? Am I overcome by carebear?
What the hell is my problem and how do I get over it?
I wanna sit cool and calm. I want to grin and feel good as someones/my ship detonates across the system and the guns roar.
Help anyone?
it is good that you got this, means you actually look forward and enjoy pvp in the game. once pvp is boring and you dont get the jitters, then ask whats wrong.

My advice is to take up boxing. After 2 years of getting the crap beaten out of me by other sweaty guys intent on sending me to the medical triage unit, losing a fight in EVE doesn't really concern me. Gotta teach your brain the difference between being in mortal danger and virtual danger then when it learns the shakes will go. If not see a psychiatrist and/or purchase some prozac/valium.
Yours sincerely,

haha you should hear me on TS sometimes then i give a running commentary of everything that happens during a fight
i have push to talk on ts and it is always pushed, its not a big deal in our corp cause i was there from the begining and the old members are used to it and the newer members just find it funny.
exept lifewire:
"oh ffs tenacha...BUTTON!!!!!!"
When i was in bob it was different, maybe thats why i left cause i couldnt speak on ts through out fights all the time

I dont get the shakes tbh, maybe its because i dont attach any value to the ships themselves but to the pvp content only. Ive been loosing ships since day 2 of eve in pvp and by now im too blase about it.

Wow one of the best threads Ive read for a long time and shows that pirates and hunters, fleet pvpers, lone fighters all get those bodily functions that u tend to forget they would have behind the screen. I too remember one of my first ever pvp experiances, after losing my ship i was in bits breathing hard and just thinking wow amazing adrenalin rush. However I forgot the pod and back in the old days when u lost your pod you screamed. When this happened I almost forgot to breath it was so intense. I had the shakes for about 5 minutes after . No game has ever done that to me. So for CCP to create this kind of intence feeling in many people means they are doing something right.
Anyway enjoy the game man it isnt just you there is nothing wrong with it.
