Seamus here is running drone boats and is a decent miner.
I want to have a 2nd toon that works so that the two toons will compliment each others abilities.
Do I split the combat/mining between the two?
Make the 2nd toon do exploration to find areas to mine in? What other skill would she need to compliment Seamus' PvE? Salvaging?
Is there a "Two Toon Newbie Guide" somewhere??
Thank you! |

This.
It is important for us to know if you mean having 2 accounts with a character each or 2 characters on a single account. Because some need things cant be done by option 2 while others are great for option 2. |

I can tell you what I am doing, and perhaps it will provide you some reference. First, you can only have one character skill training at a time on any one account. To me, that's a big deal. Plus, there is no way to log more than one character on at a time from a single account. That is also a big deal. So, many players, myself included, have 2 or more accounts. I have 3.
With more than one account you can always have more than one character skill training.
With more than one account you can have more than one character online at the same time.
The more accounts, the more possibilities, but there are diminishing returns imo. You likely get the biggest boost from having 2 accounts, and each account over the two suffers from that general law - the law of diminishing returns.
So, all that considered, I have my initial and main account with a character that is now 100% focused on pvp related training. He also can mine well, but at this point, all the mining training for him is complete.
I have a second account, where that character is now trained to mine very well, has leadership training for ORCA purposes, can fly an ORCA and fit it well, and is now training to also be my freighter pilot with related skill training.
I bought a third character and put her on a new (my third account). She is focused on PI and manufacturing, and has a slew of other skills, including corporate leadership and other leadership skills. I am not totally sure yet for her, but right now I am selectively adding skills here and there, and generally looking to max her out on exploration, PI and manufacturing.
Many avenues are open for you. I suggest you will want to diversify their skill training so as to both compliment one another as well as play to your own interests in the game. |

the way I see it, you want to be able to use both toons simultaneously and cooperatively. since the alt will likely be more specialized it will catch up to your main for any specific activity way more quickly than you'll expect. for me, my main is skilled in everything combat, mining and hauling. on my alt account, I've trained all 3 slots separate to take advantage of separate corps. one is a science alt, with battleship and refining skills, one is pretty much all hauling, one is high level pve and caps. all are cyno, and I think most can probe. my science alt runs a pos, my hauling alt mostly hauls while I web, my pve alt complements mission running. if I found pi fun, I'd have 6 toons doing that. the idea is that all can contribute for most things. if all can contribute at the same time, even better. Well. As your main is a Drone boat / miner.
Couple of ideas:
* Mission runner + salvager * Mission runner + 2nd mission ship (will means you go through them quicker). * Miner + Miner (2 x Retriever / Mackinaw). * Miner + Booster (1 x Retriever/Covetor or Mackinaw/Hulk + 1 x Orca). * Scanner + Site runner for exploration * Orca hauler + Exploration guy (The Orca serves as a home away from home - mobile base).

Little over a year ago I felt a need for 2nd account. I was lowsec pirate losing ships left and right and was occasionally PLEXing myself to fund bulk shopping of mods and hulls. I was also pretty low on sec status at -8.9 or sth like that so going into hisec to grind L4s was not very possible considering how lazy I was about null ratting myself up. And I wanted to keep myself in sub-BS minnie ships going after specialized hulls like inties, covops and AFs rather than jumping into bigger classes.
So I decided to create hisec alter ego - nice girl flying BS hulls and shooting big guns only at red crosses. All was fine and dandy for a while, she got into L4s pretty fast and decent BS skills allowed her to accumulate 2 or 3 bil ISK in total. She cross-trained into Gallente and bought herself Mach (of course ) and few other nice toys. The idea was she earns money in hisec and she funds my derps and explosions in lowsec.
But after some time she felt lonely and realized that her sister while poor and banished from safety of hisec empire was having more fun flying around in kitchen sink fleets with her pirate mates or solo in trusty rusty cane never knowing if this undock is not the last one before waking up in clone vat.
To calm her down I left my beloved BRRC and moved with her into null corp for a while. It didn't last long because of, well... politics. So we got back into empire for a moment and now we are in pretty nice lowsec alliance where - and here is real twist of the fate - I have to take L4 missions from agents for her because she totally frakked her standings with Amarr while doing missions for Minmatar corps.
And currently both sisters are totally cross-trained into all races and while I am not yet in BS class I train myself into big guns too. She goes into Amarr, I go into Gallente, world is our oyster and sky is a limit.
That is the tale of two Bastanold sisters who's destiny was to be forever apart with only trail of money transactions connecting them but they just laugh in destiny's face and do what and how they seem fit. Together. I am not my skills but... http://eveboard.com/pilot/Schmata_Bastanold |
