Hi all....
On Tuesday 23rd (right before Fanfest), I and a few EVE players and devs will be going snowboarding/skiing here in Iceland.
This is not an event or organized at all by CCP or me, and we are not responsible for any of it.
I, CCP karkur/Bára, will just be driving up to Bláfjöll that day with a few EVE nerds, and it would be really cool if more people could join; thatGÇÖs all 
We are just going to have fun. If you have never gone, you can still join and have a good time (although probably falling quite a lot like everyone does in the beginning). IGÇÖm no pro, but I can try to give people some tips :P
Ski Area:- The mountain is called Bláfjöll and is only 30-40 min drive from downtown Reykjavík.
- The opening hours are 2pm - 9pm, and during this time of the year, it will still be bright at 9pm.
- The ski area is often closed due to wind, so we always just hope for the best, donGÇÖt get too disappointed if it will be closed (Wednesday can be backup date for those interested).
- ItGÇÖs spring time, so the snow could be very questionable or even mostly gone by the time we are going, so donGÇÖt expect too much but IGÇÖm pretty sure it will be fun either way.
- You can rent skis, snowboards and boots at the ski area, but sadly they donGÇÖt have helmets for adults :(
- I donGÇÖt expect many people to be there at all, especially not early (area will close for the season on Sunday after Fanfest)
- Temperatures have lately been ranging from -10°C to 4°C, but I would say itGÇÖs likely that it would be somewhere around 0°C.
What you need:- warm skiing clothes (waterproof pants, jacket, warm baselayer, whatever will keep you from freezing)
- gloves
- hat
- (helmet would good)
Getting There:
You will have to arrange that yourself (I can provide directions to the place).
Fleet up and rent a car together. Many CCPers rent a car from http://www.cheapjeep.is when they want to go skiing or get outside the city for a little bit.
Cost: (isk=icelandic króna)Ski pass: 3000 ISK + 1000 ISK for the card (500 ISK refundable)
Ski/snowboard rental: 4500 ISK
Car rental + gas: ? (everything can be paid with credit/debit cards)
My plan:- Drive up there around 1.30-2pm to get an early start OR leave work at 4pm and head up there (if any other CCPers are going they will probably be going at 4 or later)

Not sure yet if I'll be able to make it, but I'll try!
There is also a special bus service from one of the Reykjav+¡k bus hubs that goes directly to the ski resort. The information for it is at the bottom of this page on the Bl+ífj+¦ll website (info page in English).
Public buses weekdays:
Where from - Time - Where to
Ol+¡s in Mj+¦dd - 16:15- Bl+ífj+¦ll and Sk+ílafell
The mountains - 21:05 - Mj+¦dd
That bus leaves from a stop that's a bit outside of the main downtown area, so you'll need to either taxi there or get another bus from downtown (Straeto bus service).

My car is at least full, not sure about the others, but with the number of CCP people going I think they might be full.

So a Jeep Cherokee would be just shy of $100 USD per day and should fit 5 people, coming out to $20/person + gas (no idea what prices are like up there). The rental place is also a couple blocks from my hotel. Yeah that could work as long as someone else drives. I don't have a drivers licence. Just fyi, you don't need a big car to get up there, a regular family car is enough.

I have some spare space in my car as well but it might get snaffled by other devs, will let people know when I know. :)
I was up there skiing last night with a few other devs and we just got a foot of fresh snow so conditions are awesome.

These "not EVE" things should be a thing every year. Not to be down on EVE or anything (obviously we all love it), but going and doing chill (pun intended) outside things with devs sounds way cooler than listening to pubs sperge about how Archons need to be heavily buffed so that Amarr carriers can be the best because AMARR ARE THE SUPERIOR RACE.
Do any CCPers sail? I'd love to go sail around Videy or maybe further over towards Esja or something (next year, obviously). I don't care if it's cold. I know at least one of you flies, so I'd like to assume someone sails as well :)
I think the snow quality is probably not high priority when it comes to scheduling Fanfest
I think it's awesome to have it so late this year, finally the players can experience somewhat long days and perhaps nicer weather
I'm not sure if anyone sails, but I think there might be someone.
So are you coming skiing/snowboarding with us?
(btw, this is not really an "event", just something we and you guys are doing together )

But the good thing is that weather forecasts for Iceland change frequently so let's hope that we will still have some snow and that it will be open.
But I think I'll go up there on Sunday too

Do you guys want to meet up somewhere with my car and FreeBo's car and drive all together up there? I want to leave for the mountain at 1.30pm.
Also... I STRONGLY recommend a stop at a local ski gear rental place to get helmets for the people snowboarding for the first time (I could also stop by there to pick them up and people pay me later).
As Dierdra said above, the weather forecast isn't great, but we'll just hope for the best

Maybe you could go with FreeBo and them? They will be leaving the mountain around 6pm (I think), but if you wanted to stay longer you could catch the bus to town (around 9pm).

Might be a bit tricky but we should all meet up for a group photo at some point. I'll be up with my car load of developers around 1600. I realise quite a few people are heading up earlier than that. Perhaps if we meet up around 5 at the base of the quad chairlift (this is nice and obvious) for a quick photo session. :D

You are more than welcome to come... we will have more rookies, and if people want to do serious skiing they can do that, we don't all have to be together at all times
The ski area is kind of small and we are all going to be using the same chair lift so it's all good
I do have 2 free seats in my car. I've already offered them to 2 people, but if they are not coming, you can get a ride with me

how tall are you? and wide?
I took some extra ski pants of mine with me, but I'm of course rather short, but they should fit a little bit taller person (maybe 170-175cm).
