WoW and Eve can't be compared in my opinion.
WoW, is a level grind that turns into a loot grind. You start the game, I have to give props for how easy they made it for people to slowly step into the game, they definitely made the game with growing the MMO audience in mind and all MMO's should thank them for that. (unless the growth is entirely Bnet kiddies, then they should be cursed for all eternity)
I beta tested WoW, and played for almost a year. I really enjoyed it for about 7 months. I dunno why, as I hate level grinds, but the ride was fun. Then I got to 60, that's where the real grind starts. The loot grind, and its a real pain in the butt. You all of a sudden stop doing things by yourself, or in small groups. Anything meaningful now has to be done by 40 people. Any progress made on your character is now entirely dependant on the rare loot that drops while on those 40 man groups. The loot you're looking for is mainly gotten from the bosses of those raids, that take hours to do, and they drop 2 or 3 items. Which means you gotta do those multi hour runs repeatedly, as the other 39 other people are doing the same thing, hoping one of those 2 or 3 items that drop is one they want, and that they are the winner of the 5 or 6 of their class that "rolls" for said item. Yeah, I hit 60 and fairly quickly after that decided it wasn't for me.
We all know how advancement in Eve is like. You pick a skill and train it. But it doesn't end there. Sure, you can have 15 million skillpoints, be able to use all modules and fly all ships, but that's only half the battle. You still gotta go out there and use them and get good at them. Meanwhile, you aren't yapping for hours on end waiting for a chance to use them, organizing with DOZENS of other people when will be a good time to do it either. And, in Eve, if after literally weeks of played time, if you decide to try something else, you don't have to start all over at the very beginning. You just train different skills, buy a different ship and bam you are on your way.
The 2 games do nearly everything differently. I know I just spent the last few paragraphs doing a side by side (and I admit sorta dumping on WoW), but to compare them you first gotta establish how they are similiar.
