Last expansion, CCP revealed that the background starfield in space is a correctly oriented map lining up with the actual systems in the galaxy map in Eve. Autopilot now can highlight the route you are taking through the stars visually, in that starfield.
This shows that our clients know which star in the starfield is which system in eve. With that information, something glorious is possible.
This thread is a petition for CCP to visually align ships jumping to a cyno to the actual star in the starfield, and have them arrive aligned from the system they jumped from. This need not slow down cynoing - the alignment can happen independantly of the cynoing process, and could even be purely client side for the person viewing. The only gameplay change will be providing a little intel to anyone watching ships cyno in or out, but that's actually no bad thing.
To picture this, imagine huge fleets of capital ships cynoing into a system all pointing the same direction, their system of departure clearly identifiable from the direction their engines are pointing. This will add so much visual coherence to Eve capital fleet fights which at present are often a bit of a jumbled mess. Eve players videos will look so much closer to the art-team produced marketting shots. The result would be glorious.
IMO this should be 2013's Engine Trails/Our new cyno effect.
PS: This would also open up the possibility of a new cyno effect which shows the ships accelerating rapidly (perhaps with some kind of physical 'dilation' effect) in that direction. |

Set your autopilot to an adjacent system and jump there - the direction the cyno ball goes has no correlation with the destination |

The calcs are already done - this could easily be 100% clientside. |

A similar idea is to have all stargates be properly aligned ("pointing" to the system they go to) if this isnt already the case |

No, not asking for a new cyno warm up mechanic just a visual cue (could be entirely clientside) |

gnome proper wrote:I like the idea, good if it's only visual and not a requirement for cynoing around.
Coherent fleet jump could also be implemented by a new command for the Fleet Commander. "Jump Fleet to CynoBlabla"
Might have some silly side-effects, but I believe it would make things a lot more interesting. :-)
That would actually be hilarious and cool (imagine doing it as a spy) |
