In response to CARGO FULL's post:
"The point is it should be just as easy to be a pirate as it is to mine"
Of course not. If piracy were just as easy as it is to be a miner, everybody and their mom would become a pirate.
"Not allowing pirates to JUMP or DOCK is absolutely ridiculous."
*sigh* Then don't break the law. It's as simple as that. Criminals don't have the same rights as law-abiding citizens. Even in Eve, go figure..
"If you're going to have a total safe zone (0.5-1.0) There should be a total unsafe zone to balance it out."
I was attacked by a pirate (one of Hanns' corp mates) in a 1.0 system two days ago. There is no such thing as a 'total safe zone'.
"The point is this change is just another chop at the knees of players wanting to be pirates. Wanting to play a PvP game, which this game sorely is not."
It is a PvP game. But if you mean "Boohoo.. I can't kill someone every 90 seconds like I could in Quake/CS/etc." then yes, you are correct.
"Pirating may be an aspect of this game SIMSPACE fans dislike, but it should still be an economically viable (unlike this game)profession."
I agree that piracy is an essential part of this game, but people were/are joining pirate corps' en masse, and most of them are flying top-end cruisers or battleships, so it can't be all that hard and unprofitable a profession as you want to make it out to be.
This change will hopefully bring piracy closer to a profession as it should be (imho); risky, and profitable only to the most clever (or lucky) pirates.
As for the change itself. I'm not quite sure what to make of it. I mean, what if me and some corp mates decide to take on a pirate camping at a gate, and he/she decides to jump out, will we get blocked at the jumpgate for initiating the fight? That wouldn't make sense at all. Is this jumpgate/docking restriction in some way coupled to the players' security rating? It'd make more sense if docking/jumping is only blocked for people who just received a negative hit to their security rating. Does anyone know if sec. rating is taken into account in this change? ---
