Looks like development has gone someway towards this by having gang-warped ships warp at the speed of the slowest ship. However...
Warping itself should only take place once all ganged ships have reached correct alignment with the warp tunnel. This would allow everyone to set off and arrive at the same time.

just double click in the general direction and when your all @ max speed do the gang warp.

No. It works great for me. If you want to warp at the same time then pre-align.

There still could be some variation in final alignment that would mess up a formation.

Problem: Bigger blob warps on your blob, leader hits gang warp but.. "OH NOES!" some nub is stuck on the gate and noone enters warp, everyone dies.

Yes, but... Use gang warp to warp in, and individual warp to warp out.

Bad idea, for exactly the reason that Karnov states. If people aren't aligning for warp properly in fleet ops, and people die because of it, then those people should get punished

now u can laugh about that numbnut who aligned to the wrong gate or somethin, but i wouldnt laugh when id loose the whole fleet cause that guy,
so no to ur idea, ;)

Ok then, so to refine the proposal - keep "gang warp", and add "group warp" to perform a sychronised warp into a combat position.
On top of that idea, it would also be cool for a scout to transmit a map of the grid to the gang leader, who can then decide on a pin-point location to warp/jump to.
Hopefully I've redeemed myself here ;)

One thing I liked from Freelancer, was the formations. The formation would travel as fast as the slowest ship could travel, and would allow conveys to travel in groups without having to manually alter the velocity to slow down with the hauler.

I'd like to see formation flying more than the everyone aligned to warp.. Would be nice if the gang leader can set out a formation for the group to warp into battle (or other events) in. That way you can arrange ships tactically.
I guess gang align to warp is somewhat the same but you cant really arrange ships.

It are things like these that separate the good fighters from the incompetent ones.
If your pilots don't have the skill or discipline to execute a proper gangwarp, then it's not the game that needs fixing.
If your fleet simply waits and dies because the FC wants to gangwarp out but someone is stuck, then again, it's not the game that needs fixing.
