its a bull**** indicator. most pilots use it to transmit crap into local...however a select few have figured out how to block bull**** useing the indicator.

or
B) It's for looks. Gallenteans are French origin and the French have allways been wery estethic. Thos allso explains the odd shapes of many other Gallente ships

If you *gasp* try reading the backstories, you'd realize that that sort of thing is already on _every_ pod ship.
Personally, i think its for enemy confusion. The first you see a ship, you ask yourself that same question.

On note ot the tread, its prolly a kind of compensation to all those Gallante pilots out there with short comming in other places.

If you zoom real close, you'll notice a gallente pleasure slave tied to the end. It's basically a carrot on a stick, urging the pilot to get more speed out of the ship.
