Originally by: ShadowlordUK Very true... but as long as the gm's/dev's listen to all the whiners on the forums this cycle of nerf and nerf again will never end.
The geddon nerf did nothing to reduce its power in pvp, instead it just made the ship very close to useless for pve.
The so called missile 'nerf' was actually a boost for missile ships that were already over powered to start off with.... did the Raven really need more dmg vs other bs???! Did the kestrel, crow and cerberus really need the totally absurd range they now have?
Did the minmatar bs's really need to have their tracking nerfed completely making them poor vs pve but leaving them just as strong vs other bs?
And now the recent gallente upgrades (i have just trained up to fly gallente bs myself) have made, well... put it this way.... in recent testing i was forced to acknowledge the unpleasent fact that a fully maxed out megathron can beat a fully maxed out geddon at ANY starting range in a 1vs1. In case that wasnt clear... there is no way (short of totally rigged ecm) that a geddon can beat a megathron in 1vs1 combat.
As a total amarr pilot this is kind of depressing but since im now in the proccess of switching over to gallente ships ill get over it...
You couldnt be more wrong about geddon, the nerf decreased the geddons versaitility greatly, but it also mad eit much more difficult to npc in a apoc. I've been flying geddon since before it was popular to use in pvp, amnd the reason geddon was so powerful pre nerf because it could from 80 km- 5 km, the range decrease made it close range weapon so it is not nearly as versaitile, so now for fleet battle we have to fit mega beams/tachy's which take up more grid/cap=less damage mods. So in short geddonw a shurt a lot by the nerf.

Very glad I abandoned my Caldari roots months before the missile change. yarr!
Good Point, but most of the whinners complaining about one ship being more powerful than another have never spent Eight months specialising in one race much less one ship.
The Dominix is great ship in the hands of a skilled pilot however it does generally require alot of skill to fly well. The "Vampire Dominix" requires very little skill and is a setup corrently being abused, a little like the Gank Pulse geddon four mounths ago.
The Megathorn is a Very powerful ship but requires an enormous amount of player and character skill to be effective.
The Rax is being fixed in the next major patch and will be even more viable and effective as a gun boat to high skill players.

Problem was Uggs that the pulse balance wasnt a nerf, it was bringing something more into line. The fact you could do blaster damage at 40-50 KM with megapulse was rediculous and it was no surprise that just about every ship in a fleet was a gankageddon.
If you can give me an example of a truly overpowered gallente ship or setup i will be surprised. They arent really flavour of the month, people are just realising most of the races are pretty well balanced now and every race is just as popular as the other

Gallente aren't the flavour of the month. They have been this good with a skilled pilot for over a year, with only the megathron getting a buff during that time. Its just that CCP have removed the WinÖ button from the other races (old missiles and old pulse). With the Raxes drone bay getting nerfed (and yes I am a rax pilot), the gallente don't have any totally superior ships.
The other races are just as good, people are just biased because they remember the old overpowered ships. Im sure rax pilots will be *****ing that the rax is totally useless after the change, but it will still be a very nasty ship, just with less of a tank. I have been flying Omens and Arbitrators recently and my alliance gets a lot of kills with them (often against Raxes), and they are damn good ships.
Caldari are a little iffy but thats mainly because CCP didn't increase their PG when the launchers got significant PG use. And shield tanking and PVP (where you want a speed mod, webber and scrambler) just don't go together great. But that should be fixed in the tech 1 rebalance.

tempest, can gank and tank at the same time
Lol?
Why lol, yes it can have a small shield tank while packing damage mods in lows.
Yeah, so can an apoc with megapulse, but it doesnt mean its viable, even though people use it. You need a co proc to fit a mwd + shield tank in mids anyways. And saying the tempest can shield tank + gank is stupid when the raven and dom do it much much better.
Even with Larger Guns it's possible but not TOp in any field.
But before I had TII Guns I had pretty good tank and some good punchpower.
At this time I hunted pretty mucho alone aswell so was always aware of the small itchy intys.
5 1400 Protos/scouts (had a mix) 3 Rocket L Defenders/rocketas (prenerf) Med: 3 ShieldHardners 1 XL CL and one Capbooster (took away 1 shield later for a sensorbooster for some odd reason ) And al Dmg mods in low! I'm almost certin that was it but I might have had something else ..that looks very toight on Cpu after reading it true *scratches head
But it can easily be called a good tank though !
*OK no more Hijacking, solly*

If the domi was so uber then I think everyne would be flying one and that is not the case, yes it is a good ship but no immune to any other ship out there. I still see way more 'geddons than any other type of ships in fleets. I mean, look at the PG on a dom, OMG!
It is however a ship that is good for those that like to try out different types of setup. And as for T2 Drones, well they might on paper make it uber but I've yet to see affordable ones for sale and the skills will take forever. To me I think that gallente seems to be well balanced and the other races have just had their uberness reduced rather than the Gallente boosted.

I am glad I sticked to the Caldari race since I've started the game, to follow the "flavour of the month" seems dumb to me, it is one of those things that define the amorph mass of copy cats. ^^

Maybe. I fly gallente mainly but have you seen the prices of Throns recently? I was whacking them out for 120-125 mill a few months back (when i was madly mining and building). They are selling at 104-105 Mill at the moment. Something tells me they aint that popular anymore.
With regards to PVP, you can set a ship up however you want to. Just because its one race over the other it don't matter. I know you'll whine, but it really doesnt matter. Flavour of the month stuff is for the mindless "drones" without offending higher AIs. Stick with a ship and find ways to improve it or change tactics so you have a number of set ups for different situations.

Gallente simply have ships that please at almost every rung of the ladder.
They are a great all-round choice. Like all other races, they have their drawbacks.

Funny... FOTM now you say? Let's have a rundown of the DRASTIC changes made to Gallente ships... ~6 months ago everyone was crying Gallente ships suck (particularly the battleships)... ~6 months later the ships have remained UNCHANGED FFS! *LARGE hybrid weapons got a slight PG decrease, hybrid ammo also got a slight cap decrease. *T2 drones were added to the game, which EVERYONE can use, only that Gallente ships tend to have larger drone bays. *And the pulse lasers and radio crystals underwent a slight nerf (perhaps the other crystals were nerfed, don't quote me on this). *Then there's the missle nerf (aka the MISSLE BOOST IMO... SOOOO sorry you can't pwn frigs with torpedos anymore...) OMGHOLYF-INGBBQFISHSTICKSWITHTARTARSAUCEBATMAN!!!
ALL races battleships are EXCELLENT in PVP in their given roles (yes, even Ravens you whiney Caldari fanboys...) as are the HACS (Deimos is UBER?!?! LMFAO! Have you ever actually used one?). I can't say much for T1 cruisers and frigs as I haven't been flying them much. Posts like these are obviously posted by someone that engages in pure PVE and has never fought another player in an equally matched ship of a different race... or even the same race for that matter -OR- is going off pure hearsay. Every races ship is naturally better at fighting a certain type of NPC if you ask me, this have nothing to do with PVP.
KTHXBYE!
P.S. Oh... you wanted a simple answer... well, ask a stupid question BURN IN FLAMES!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and welcome back to dancing with flames featuring: Valpo'rae..
think about the freacking chill factor dude...
well flying gallente well isnt easy. its harder than flying minmatar ships. this has everything to do with the need of getting, not just close (AC falloff), but ultra-close to your target and the skills/capacitor you need to pull this off.
blasters use more cap than any other type of weapon. this is because ammar gets there capbonus, but still galllente needs ammo. for pvp something like emp/phased plasma or fusion charge is plain godlike. gallente only has kin/therm. thats why isthar and dominix are so popular: you can swap your damage.
more and more people are finding this out, but that doesnt make a race overpowered.
also i think that a lot of caldari people are swapping to gallente because that step aint big. it only requires training up gallente ships and maybe blasters, but that step also aint big. gallente ships are just fine.

Well hell! Very little skill = OP?
I've been playing this game for 1.5months and I have a little less than 1mill SP's. WTF am I giong to fly if you consider anything requiring low skill to be OP'd?
