Your calculations are correct, a large barge with MSMII's and T2 crystals will mine 162m3 per minute faster than one with Strip Miner I's. That's a 17% increase. Combined with the issues of crystal replacement, you need to be willing to plan ahead if you're going to get the best profit from them, but you can get an appreciable profit from them if you do it right.
The modulated system has caught people out because it requires miners to do more than just slap on the largest lasers they can fit, and sit there mining.
Originally by: Alekzander Yes, using a T1 crystal in a MSM II makes it a negligible diferance, which basically requires you to burn T2 crystals (which die faster I believe). So that 162 extra is eaten by the crystal you have to replace later.
No, only a tiny proportion of that 162 is eaten by crystal replacement costs, unless you're mining 40 jumps from anywhere and insist on only buying 1 set at a time.
The modulated mining lasers are only suitable for the long-term miner, who is willing to put some thought and planning into their mining. For the casual miner, the Strip Miner I is still a perfectly good isk-printer.
Originally by: Friendly I was thinking of working it out to show how long I'd mine to make up that 30 mil compared with the 160 per min... but then I thought... pfft... not worth it... its clearly too long to make up.
Figures from memory, don't have workings here rightnow. Factoring in my local market costs of crystals, and with a repay cost of 12mill per laser (so 36mill in total), I came out with around 45 hours repay time when mining scordite. With the high-end 0.0 ores, this drops to around 7 hours. Though obviously that has to be balanced with the higher risk of dying in 0.0.
Originally by: TotensBurntCorpse Kinda makes that mining implant for 5% not seem so expensive anymore now doesnt it ? Given with Mod IIs costing 20 mil each and tech2 crystals now burning out and the skills to use the darn things in the first place.
I've yet to see one of those implants sell for less than 200mill. 5% on a Strip Miner I would give you a yield of 1019m3/cycle = 1019m3/min on a large barge. Hence an increase of 49m3/min. Now, perfect-refine scordite is currently coming out at about 90isk/m3. Hence your mining implant is making you 4410isk/min. Assuming you paid 200mill for it, that's a repay time of 756 hours.
I can't find any way of making the MSM's take that long to repay when mining scordite without assuming behaviour of monumental idiocy.
You can do anything. But you can't do everything. |
