I guess this is a response to the "nerf the Raven" thread.
Why dont we make shield boosters and armour reppers the same amout of cap and duration then, that seems good to me. |

This isn't a response to anything. This is a request to have armor tanking LOOKED at. I have suggested some things, like increasing mass. I don't think a 10% penalty to speed is enough of an offset for what the plates give you. Yeah your ship doesn't go 200m/s anymore it now goes 180m/s. Big whoop, you quadruples the number of hitpoints you have on your armor. It just isn't enough penalty to offset the huge boost in HP you get.

a 1600 on cruiser with frig guns most certainly IS in need of a change (not nerf, note that), since normal cruiser setups with cruiser guns get beaten by their 1600-friggun-cruiser cousins. That makes a 1600 plate cruiser a superb anti-frig fighter as well as a very good against other cruisers (thorax anyone?). So a change is needed yes.)
SWEET lets nerf the rax twice along with all the other armor tankers.
This is what I dont understand...if something is so good you have to complain about it why not use it? I know you want versatility but just because you armor tank and your opponent armor tanks does not make your ships exactly the same. The plate and and rep take up 2 slots, there is alot of room to go your own route and surprise him. Use your head not the N-E-R-F keys on your keyboard.

Originally by: Randay please nerf plates, each plate should remove a mid slot and also give 25% max cap penalty.
Your insane. If you did something like that, you mine as well remove the things from the game. No one would ever use them.

I have not yet been able to fit 1600 plate on my Thorax without totally sacrificing firepower to nothing, although I can fit this on a Brutix. I even used a couple RCUs to up my powergrid, but then I sacrifice resistance plates to do so.
How are folks using the Thorax to be so deadly? I have not been able to duplicate this.
My current setup
2 Medium Ion Blasters 2 Small Nutron Blasters (comprimise, ran out of power to fit mediums) 1 Medium Goul Nos (to keep my cap up)
1 Afterburner II (loose the bonus, but I cannot fit a MWD, plus it does not work in deadspace) 1 Webber (very helpfull module) 1 Cap recharger
1 Polarized medium armor repair 1 Thermal nanoplate 1 Kinetic membrane (still need Hull upgrades for hardeners) 1 800mm Plate 1 Magnetic Stabilizer
4 Hammerheads
The small blasters do seem to do equivelant damage compared to the medium guns, which is odd and unexpected. The mediums do higher, but not by much, and they track worse, so it seems as though they end up being as destructive.
So how are folks fitting 1600? Better skills? Less weapons? combonation?

Want to balance armor vs shield tanking? Imagine if a cap recharger made your armor repper less effective, the EXACT SAME effect a cap power relay has on a shield tanker. Now both tanks are in the same boat. If you have the cap to sustain, you can't repair fast enough. If you go for big repair/boost numbers instead, you rapidly run out of cap.

Heh, threads like this simply prove inexperience IMHO. Armor tanks are meant to be tough to break (well aren't any tanks for that matter?), and just because you can't break it doesn't mean it can't be done. It just means you don't have the correct set-up to counter.
90% of players tank to minimize damage, so what's the obvious solution? Heck, try all-out damage set-ups. Sometimes the superiority of an enourmous tank is completely destroyed when it runs into somebody with a set-up designed to kill, very fast. Just because you've engaged a set-up that either took you by surprise or you weren't prepared to engage, does not mean it's "unbalanced" or needs to be nerfed. Everything has a counter.

Yeahh, there is no problem with armor tank... It's so equal to shield tank than even the ships that can be both are ALWAYS armo tanked.
And it's not like if nearly EVERY pvpers tell shield tanking is uber **** and you HAVE to go armor tank....
No there is ABSOLUTELY NO problem with armor tank right now.
It's funny to see that most of the ppl saying there is no problem use EXCLUSIVELY armor tank, and are happy when there is a shield tanker in front of them.... :(

I didnt just ment the thorax. Yes thorax gets hit by this too, but by all means this is better for the general game balance and I cant shed a tear for someones favorite overpowered cruiser that gets degraded to general game balance.
And why try to change it instead of all using the same overpowered mod? Im not even gonna answer that.

Toe to toe, exact same ship and skills, armor tank setup and gank setup, armor tank always wins.
if the all-out-damage was able to beat a tank like you said it should (it can't, like I said) then wouldn't everyone fly an all-out-damage setup? that's right they would! except they don't. Everyone flies armor tanks. Thus the conclusion? Armor tanking > all-out-gank ------------------------------------------- If you do nothing to stop slavery, you do everything to support it!
