I have a dual core PC. I have Windows 7 (64)
I have read in one of the other New Citizens Threads that if I run multiple clients on a multi core PC I could assign those clients to specific processors.

My question is: How?
I know..., I'm a n00b... |

You don't need to do that. Windows does a good job at scheduling.
But if you really want to for some strange reason....
Task Manager -> Processes -> Right-click on client process -> Set Affinity... -> (Un)Check the box(es) as desired -> Click OK
I've run up to 6 clients. I've never needed to do this. |

This.
I only have to do it when I start running 8 or more accounts and 1 of them needs more power (for instance, he is in fleet fights while the others are docked). When a WoW player leaves to return to WoW, the avg. IQ of both games rises. Professional Forum Thread locker. |

Don't forget to take into account the amount of memory you have installed as well - this greatly helps when multi-tasking on a PC as it cuts down on the system accessing the windows virtual drive (google it to find out more).
If you have an AMD motherboard & multi-core CPU, you also get access to a nifty feature called "Ganged / Unganged" memory. This little feature allows you to have either all the memory seen as one by the CPU in "ganged" mode or each CPU core only reads from a certain stick in "unganged" mode. That's more useful is you multi task alot and you get varied reports as to whether it's actually faster or not.
Again, google it for a more detailed description as to it's pros and cons.
Multi GFX cards will also help if running multiple clients.
As you've probably worked out, just by changing one thing on the PC may not improve the performance by much but by adjusting multiple settings, you'll be surprised at what your little workhorse will do ..
I could list a miriad of other things that will make your system run a lot smoother but let's keep things simple eh
Hope that little nugget of info helps you out. Not fired a shot in anger since 2011.... Trigger finger is starting to get somewhat itchy....... |

To be honest, running two clients on a dual core - There is no need to change anything.
Just launch the two clients and play!.
If you are using the one character to do something less intensive (say.. Hauling) Turn off most of the graphics, eg, Lasers, sound, shaders, etc.
Most games/applications are designed now with the intent to be used on multi core systems and they will automatically distribute the operations evenly as possible between all cores. |
