Why do they call them smart bombs? I could see it if it did not affect anyone you were ganged with or your missiles or drones but it does not. There is nothing smart about it, it is just an area effect weapon that hits everything within range.
If CCP is going to call it a smart bomb, at lease have it be smart enough to not hit the firing ships missiles and drones.

Because it's smart enough to set off a huge explosion right on top of your ship without actually damaging your ship?
You can do anything. But you can't do everything. |

They're called smart bombs because you have to be smart when using them.

I've read plenty of stories from others that indicate that's not entirely accurate. :)

Well, post-changes, it refers to how they only damage certain things. Like players but not cans, corpses, stargates or buildings.
Pre-changes, a smart-bomb was an object used by a handful of competent people, and a whole lot of incompetents. Like me. ---
Is this a constructive thread? |

Not really. Given the damage model of missiles (the explosion radius and speed), they are blast-kill, not kinetic-kill. If a blast-kill missile actually hits the target, it would likely wreck the warhead before it can detonate. So the aim of the missile is to miss the target, but by the smallest margin possible to maximise the effects of the blast.
You can do anything. But you can't do everything. |

Surely though a near miss is actually a hit?
After all, if you only nearly missed it you must, by definition, actually have hit it? ______________________________________________

Would be cool if the damage control item worked exactly the opposite to a damage mod and was an active module you could put on targets to reduce their dmg and rof? ---------------

because when smart bombs hit you, they smart your ship, like if someone slapped you round the face for being stupid, it would smart |

Ok I hear by petition a name change. From this day on they will no longer be known as "Smart Bombs"... Hence forth they are to be known by the truly descriptive name of "Luck Bombs"...
Your lucky if they save you... Your lucky if they donĘt get you killed by Concord... Your lucky if they donĘt kill your poor noob frigate pilots running support!

i'd rather call them WTFBombs.
WTF is what most interceptor pilots say when 5 go off in his face. WTF is what you'll say when you smartbomb your own missiles WTF is what you'll say when you smartbomb "random passing ibis" in Empire and get Concordokken
Seems somehow appropriate
