I was in a chat with someone today who was afraid to undock because someone put a bounty on them. This was a brand new player. There are 2 things I would like to see so that new players don't get scared and quit the game because of a 100k isk bounty.
1. No bounties on players for the first month.
2. The first time a player receives a bounty Aura pops up and gives a tutorial so people know whats going on and don't get scared.

No the first, yes the second.
I won't matter if the newbie is 1 or 3 months old... the effect will still be the same unless someone explains it to them. Plus it's not like veterans can't roll their own "newbie" characters. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

Definitely yes to the second. I don't believe the first will be effective. Only 3 percent of the playerbase has a bounty on them as of the last dev blog. While some people :indulge: in bountying new players (or at least people's alts) there isn't a real problem with bounties, just a perception of there being a problem with people bountying new people (or alts).
What would be more beneficial would be for the minimum bounty being raised from 100k isk to 1M or even 10M isk. This probably make bounty spam even rarer, remove more isk from the game when a bounty is made and make the bounties on people who attract amusement bounties have even more amusing amounts on them. |

I wouldn't have it as a month, but rather 14-Days (length of the trial) To be honest CCP a while back (not sure when exactly) made it so bounties could be applied to -1.5 Characters (or below) only because of this very issue.
For the moment this isn't a major issue as, really all that need to happen is an explaination to the Bounty System; in-fact I believe it should be part of the Combat Tutorial where the game places a 100,000 ISK bounty on new players to explain it.
I mean to me the game needs to explain GÇó Bounties GÇó Stolen Goods (Can Flipping) GÇó Duels
Not normally one who advocate for hand holding in EVE, but these are 3 of the main grief methods right now that new player NEED education on. One of the biggest things that put off new players is a) How Complicated the Game Appears (when really it isn't that complicated, but the UI doesn't bloody help) b) Getting Killed by Older Players who frankly need to find a new hobby other than picking on new players
If players are given a bit like a "Short Survival Guide to New Eden" Pamphlet when they start, it might help them to adjust quicker.
Funny thing is that players who instantly go out to Null-Sec actually often have an easier time getting to know EVE before seeing how brutal it can be than those in High-Sec without any friends who play. Seems quite backward but often the case.
Still it all comes in to the fact that the Null-Sec players are eased in to what the game has to offer, as opposed to those in High-Sec who are given 50,000 ISK and kicked out the door by the Tutorial with hearty "Good Luck Noob" from Aura.
Mind we could probably discuss for years (as CCP no doubt have) the best methods around this. |

Perhaps trial players could get their hand held by CCP until they buy a subscription. Immunity to high-sec ganking, no bounties, no suspect flagging, +100% mining yield and free skillbooks. How droll. |

I've seen the same behaviour from multi year veterans in nullsec. The tutorial idea is a good one, the first one less so. At most I think a restriction on placing bounties on trial players, but they have to learn sooner or later. |

100k is way too low, make it 10 mil. Still chump change, unless you're spamming it on random rookies. Standings Improvement Service https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=19454 |
