Hello, I used to play this a long time ago, but all I ever really did was train skills and stare at the screen. Today I've decided to come back. I don't really know what I should train. As it is now, I don't really want to pvp, not until I get a little more experienced and build up enough isk so that I don't mind losing a few ships. What I really want to do is mine, but from what I've heard, it doesn't make much isk compared to other methods. I just want to train the right skills to start making a lot of isk with very little risk.
If anybody could steer me in the right direction and help me decide what skills to train, and what ship I should go for with those skills, I would be very grateful. |

I would leave the points unallocated, and train skills that you think you might need/want for now, and once you have a definite plan in mind, then allocate the unused points. That said, support skills are always useful if you want to spend them somewhere. |

Make a skill plan and spend them on skills that you don't have the stats for. For most people that means dumping them into a charisma skill. |

I would definitely advise investing in at least basic drone skills. Even as a miner you will want these, and they have a rather awkward stat combo that doesn't match any other skill group:
Drones 5
Scout Drones 5
Minmatar Drone spec 3
Gallente Drone Spec 3
Drone Sharpshooting 4
Drone Navigation 4
Combat Drones 4
Drone Interfacing 4
Drone Durability 3
Electronic Warfare Drone Interfacing 4
That's about 1.1 or 1.2M SP, and will give you enough skills to see you through very adequately until you start flying large drone bay battleships and/or specialised drone ships.
I wouldn't bother with mining drones; they're more trouble than they're worth IMO. Malcanis' Law:-á "Whenever a mechanics change is proposed on behalf of 'new players', that change is always to the overwhelming advantage of richer, older players."

this is good advice. you may want to add salvage drone operation on top of that but that's a bonus.
other than that, you should first decide what you intend to do. there are lots of ways to make isk including but not limited to missions, exploration, industry and trade. all of the above require different skills, in fact trade does not necessarily require any spaceship related skills at all.
also, do not become a slave of your wallet. there is nothing more pathetic than seeing people burn out on mining or running missions.

If you just want to mine to make ISK while you realy would like to PVP take a look at faction warfare. You can get a quite decent income while pvping (and (i-¦d say) 80% are fights in frigates or destroyer. For Hire Psychotic Monk for CSM |

I never minded training short skills, But I hate long skills. So I put my points towards long training times. BS V Fighters V etc.
I even did half and halfs on some long skills, to cut them down to bearable time frames. Half of Large Hybrids V for instance.
I kept a few for reserve and eventually used them on T3 re-skilling |

This. I did fw for a long time. Pays the bills nicely and there's lots of good fights. Seriously though don't mine. Very few people who mine stick around because they get bored and realize they wasted months of training. Fit up some slashers or rifters or incursus or whatever, go into faction ware fare, and make some money WHILE shooting stuff. You can thank me later. This Space Intentionally Left Blank |

Allocate points to Cybernetics V if you don't already have it. Remap your character attributes for the type of skills you expect to train most, such as Perception/Willpower for ships & guns. Buy two +5 implants to match those attributes. This will give optimum skillpoints when training those skills. Then, use the unallocated skill points you have only for skills that don't fit your map & implants.

I've just sat on my unallocated points. Perhaps some day CCP will add new skills like they did when PI came out. If that day comes I'll have the option to dump my points on it and be highly skilled in something new from day one. The other scenario where I'd spend them would be if I wanted to work with a corp who had an immediate demand for me to be more specialized in something. I imagine the temptation to spend them could overwhelm me at some point but they just seem too versatile to throw away just to get a little ahead on my ordinary day-to-day training.
Just something to consider anyways. |

I did this exactly. Used a fair chunk of the unallocated SP on long LvL 5's that I never wanted to have to train but always wanted the skill. Unfortunately this means all that SP doesn't go far if you use it primarily on LvL 5 skills.

When I got my reimbursed skill points from the learning skills, my attributes were mapped perception/willpower. I still had over half a year before I could remap again. I spent all my reimbursed skill points on needed Intelligence/memory skills, mainly support (electronics, engineering, mechanics). R.I.P. Vile Rat |

didnt read all teh post before, but i woudl wait allocating the sp after the new expansion will be out.
also keep them as long as possible and use them for skills where time multiplier is greater than 5. Will save you a lot of time.. |

Keep the green SP. It is nice for trying out new ships in SiSi when they are introduced or for trying out things in there you think that might be nice to train. Here, sanity... niiiice sanity, come to daddy... okay, that's a good sanity... *THWONK!* GOT the bastard. |

The best thing to do with unallocated SP is to put them in to skills you wouldn't want to use a remap for.
Anything with Charisma as a primary attribute would be good.
Or maybe Drone skills? A Mem/Perc remap is useless for anything other than Drones, so you wouldn't want to waste a remap on them either.
Lastly, if you're in an alliance and they suddenly decided to switch doctrines from say shield to armour or lasers to hybrids, you can instantly train the new skills up and remain useful... rather than being that guy who joins an Alphafleet then asks in chat if he can bring a Drake. |

If you don't have battlecruisers 5 I would seriously consider dumping into that. Of course making sure that you already have all racial cruisers to 3.
You are in effect taking 1.5M SP and turning it into 6M SP.

Sell char, buy/train a new one. Your chars good birthdate, great name, and many unalloc SP are worth a lot more to others than they are to you. |

Agreeing with Malcanis here. Drone skills are always useful and can be a pain to train due to the whole memory SP build which is only really used elsewhere for industry related skills.
