So...
I've 'reinvented' myself over 25 times since starting in 2004.
I've been a miner, a somewhat pirate, and I've been around the map in several large alliances.
Eve doesn't interfere with my work, or family time. I've always managed fleets around my real schedule by joining alliances that had likewise timed CTA's.
I just feel burnt out of eve.
I recently got rid of my last toon (forums) but now I seem to find myself browsing the forums again over and over looking at toons.. am I addicted to shopping? or just Eve... lol. |

Either way, couldn't be more simple. Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Yea that's the problem.. Sometimes I had some really great nights.. and others.. I spent tons of hours in a carrier evacing for alliances.
I think with my work schedule it caused most my problems of late.
Getting home around 1-2am eastern and no ones on for fleets. I've worked my way around the map alliance wise.. well English ones.

So find another corp/alliance that suits your schedule. EVE players are not restricted to one time zone.
And don't trash the gear you have. If you've had enough just stop for a while. Come back when you feel the urge, even if it's only a month at a time. |

You sound like me when I quit years ago. I was burnt out, and needed a break. I was playing to much and couldn't sustain it.
Take a break, but go with the mindset of a break. Recharge your batteries, let the game evolve a bit, and then return if it still interests you.
I personally made it two years before devblogs, patch notes, and forum voyeurism wasn't enough. When I came back, there was a fully revamped FW system, incursions, and a slew of other improvements to play with. It wasn't a new game, but it was some fresh things to do on an old favorite.
EVE has a longevity that is so different from any other game out there, a decade old and still gaining steam? Unheard of.
Take your break, EVE will be here waiting for you when you get back

Couple of ideas off the top of my head:
Move to a country that doesn't have the internet and/or electricity.
Get with a super-hot girl/boy that hates you playing computer games.
Lose your hands in an industrial accident.
Go blind.
Join a cult/religion that thinks games are evil, or refuses contact with technology.
Find another game that you like even more than EvE. (impossible)
Seriously though, occational breaks from EvE are a good thing. Makes it great again when you come back. Post with your main, like a BOSS! |

Start by admit you DO like Eve but can't find enough interest to play it all the time, there's no problem with this.
Come and play when you feel you're good to, just stop playing and leave when you feel you're bored.
Eve is more than just a game, I find my self included in those that play more or less depending on IRL because work, ladie, kids etc so some times I can play an entire month, some times a couple hours a week and sometimes not at all for months but there's this little thing over spaceships that also makes me get back: the relationship build overtime with some dudes/dudettes
If you don't have this kind of "relationship", don't like more than that the "spaceships" and space exploring kids dream, then it should be easy for you to just delete Eve folder, stop you sub, and never get back. *removed inappropriate ASCII art signature* - CCP Eterne |

I don't understand the question. Is Eve problematic and so you want to quit? Or is it not as fulfilling as it once was but you can't seem to stop logging in and ship spinning anyway? From your OP it sounds like you manage your time and RL well enough. So what is your concern? Why do you feel the need to stop playing?
If its because you feel the time is wasted just think of all the mindless television that people watch, or the compulsion to drink alcohol or eat excessively. We all end life the same way, I'm not sure this idea of "maxing" out ones time here is so relevant as the world makes it out to be. Maybe the soul needs these kinds of distractions/impulses/addictions in order to fully develop. Or maybe we are just here for a while and then gone, so do what you enjoy as much as you can while you have the time. As long as you can maintain a good standard of living for yourself and those that you care about while you are here it doesn't really matter how you spend your time.
But if you really want to get rid of Eve I think the thing to do is to move. Physically change environments, even a vacation away from where you currently live will help. Otherwise we tend to fall into our same old rituals, which for you sounds like logging into EveO. The other thing you could do is to post your login name and PW on a few forums. That will take the characters out of your hands pretty quickly.
Anyway, best of luck. Slavery is self choosen, only the unclaimed are not free.

If you have small children (toddler, baby) then you don't have a lot of free time and you're always vulnerable to 'kiddus interruptus' so surfing the forums is easier than trying to plan on having an "uninterruptible" block of time to play.
Personally, I'm at the point where I pick long training times so I don't have to login more than a few times a month. And yes, I still check the forums. =/
As for advice to the OP, games like Eve are a lot like girlfriends. It's easier to get over your old one when you get a new one.

For Bonus Points (i.e. so that you can say that you have won at Eve when people ask why you quit,) try to arrange it so that your self-immolating pyrrhic RMT'ing actually gets an enemy player in trouble with CCP.

Best way IMO is to really burn your in-game bridges.
If in null: First, contract me all of your stuff (consider this a fee for advice/services rendered). Get them moved to Jita first. But keep the following: 2-3 HICTORs, 2-3 cyno boats.
Then, contact an alliance hostile to the one you are part of. Tell them you want to go out with a bang, and you'll tackle your own alliance's supercaps for them.
Then get to AWOXing.
But then make sure you also **** off the alliance you are helping enough that they do not want you as a member - once they win the fight, tackle their supers to make it harder for them to flee.
You've now managed to alienate everyone that would have pulled you back to EVE. AWOXalypse is coming! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2898431

But what if he has no friends and everyone already expects that of him?
Not that I'd know anyone like that or anything

Don't do that. Even if you don't do much in life there is some good to be done, people who would miss having you around, and a reason that we are here. Even if its only playing Eve or taking the dog for a walk or holding the door open for people carrying things.

I could not do this myself =-) I remember every character that I have ever played, they are more than just items that could be discarded that way. Slavery is self choosen, only the unclaimed are not free.

What? If going to keep paying its better to just do the yearly sub, one its cheaper, two you forget about it till after the auto re-sub and you get that email from EVE that you're stuck for another year. |

I played Final Fantasy 11 for 5 years. I thought I'd never quit. I'd always go back when new content was introduced - and recently a new expansion was released. Sadly, the game itself has changed so much that it just isn't fun anymore. It's only a rush to get the best and greatest equipment now. Everyone has high-level characters or rush them as fast as possible to 99 (when it first started, the cap was 75, which took months to get - now only takes a few weeks with proper help).
Anyhow, from my experience you can't quit unless the game itself changes to a degree that you no longer enjoy playing it. All MMOs are designed from their very core to keep people playing by getting them emotionally attached to something in-game. I quit FFXI because all the people I used to play with had long moved on and the content had gone in the crapper.
So, it all comes down to whether or not you enjoy it. By enjoy it, I don't mean "oh I'm bored I better log into EVE and play" - this is not enjoyment. Being addicted to anything is not enjoyment. It's escapism to the Nth degree. If you no longer play to have fun, and play merely because you always have and don't want to quit... that is a good sign to quit. You gotta keep in mind that it's just a game.
My two cents. |
