To me, when something like this gets an equal amount of passionate responses from both sides of the fence, that can be a very good indication that things actually are balanced. There are just as many pro's as there are cons. My personal experience is to never use them in combat because i would rather have either tanking or damage mods than stabs. The only time i use stabs is when i'm hauling, and most people who attack haulers in 0 space are prepared for the fact that the indy is going to have stabs on and they prepare ahead of time accordingly. If they don't, its not the fact that things are unbalanced, it's their poor planning.
So in my mind, it's really only combat ships that are getting some bent out of shape and i personally don't feel that most serious pvp'ers use stabs. So it's a minority percentage of people that really use them and its really irritating a very small group of people. I think probably the majority of the 70,000 odd thousand accounts that are on Eve would say the things are fine as they are, and that there are much larger things that need to be looked at. Like some of the things coming in MK2.
The way its setup now, the balance is in favor of the scramber because you gotta put 2 stabs for 1 scram to make sure your not going to get scrammed. Someone said the range for scrams was only 17 km, you can get them with ranges above 25km.
If it was decided that the earth was going to spin out of orbit unless something was done, then have it setup like FoF missiles so when someone tries to scram you, the stabs activate automatically, so you don't have to do it manually. Make the energy useage the same as scrams. The indy would be able to stack them and not worry too much about this, but I think this would have a greater effect on the combat ship because cap is a bit more critical to a fighter, and if you had a fighter with the lows filled with stabs and they all activated....something to think about.
At the end of the day though, I think they're fine and a small minority of very loud pvp whiners are upset because they're missing out on some kill mails and they're not thinking about the other 15,000 some odd people that are on-line everyday. They previously nerfed stacking MWD's or afterburners to address the 'getting away' issue and I don't think we need another nerf to cover the same ground. Thats my .02 cents
