I new caldari pilot and I love using missiles, Caracal is a good missile cruiser, but I can't hope notice how ugly it is.
I mean seriously. with the square in the middle and 2 tubes it looks like something made from lego, looks really firmsy and easy to break, not to mention I can't even see where the missiles are from.
I hav a caracal, but I usually use lesser ships due to that fact I don't like the look of it while flying. Looking in to the future the caldari HAC has a caracal version, which im most likely need to use, and not looking forward to.
Don't get me wrong, I think the Caldari frigates are the best looking ones around, Merlin specially looks amazing. Also the BC ferox, I think that is well designed too.

Everyone's taste is diff,... what the art dept. @ CCP could do is update some of the older ship's texture rez to be 1024x1024.
- Oh and redo the old skins to match the current new ones like the Ferox/Cyclone style. - Fix textures on minmatar stations / and add missing ones (Some station faces are NULL BLACK) - Fix lazy texture work on the Apoc and give it some alphas here and there - Fix the Exequror (omg I want to stab fork in eyes everytime I see one close) - and generally fix model problems where you have entire parts NOT CONNECTED to acutal ship hull and just floating in mid space..
ugh nevermind I don't want to go further, I'm just gonna get all worked up about it AGAIN..

errrm, have you seen the armour and structure on a caracal, they really are that flimsy
but i actually do like its looks, and the cerburus, at least there are actually symetrical, not like most caldari ships

I dunno...I'd have to say the moa far out-uglies the caracal - the caracal somehow manages to look somewhat graceful and, unlike most caldari ships, is mostly symmetrical. The moa, on the other hand, has absolutely NO symmetry. Worse, the mind refuses to wrap around the mechanics of the moa's movement - the thrusters are badly placed and would, IRL, send any ship with those proportions tumbling out of control. -Wrayeth

"I dunno...I'd have to say the moa far out-uglies the caracal"
Someone has referred to Moa once as "bastard child of Gojira and vacuum cleaner"
Sadly they're 100% right... it'd be really great if that model was replaced with... anything, really. it's horrible >.<;;
(caracal on the other hand i thought looked pretty nice o.O

Agree with most posters here - there are a number of Caldari ships that are uglier than the Caracal. I happen to think that the Caracal is quite nice actually.
When I bought the Ferox, I thought "Wow! Finally a decent looking Caldari ship!". My elation lasted until I realised it flew "backwards"......
Gallente ships are the most aesthetically pleasing. Amarr ships look like beetles.... Minmatar ships look like they're held together by spit and wire... :)

Osprey, Caracal, Moa... they're all a bit fudge tbh. The best looking Caldari ships are the newer classes - Cormorant and Ferox. They keep the chunky look of Caldari ships but without looking like they're made of deformed lego bricks. I wish they would update some of the old models a bit. There's a clear difference in the amount of detail on the Raven model when compared to the Ferox.

I was reading the videos sectoion of the forums and saw that an EVOL member is putting together a video but the meshes didn't hold up to extreme close-ups, so he's doing his own models for those parts. He posted some of 'em, and I've gotta say they're badass. The scorpion actually looks cool and the tempest is just uber.

i like both the caracal and moa design. The caracal design is one of the few symetrical ships in the game so i love it just cause its actually rare to have a symetrical design in EVE. And the MOA is really neat looking how can u hate that ship come on :)

i think the caracal is awesome looking, the skin could use some work, but a lot of the older ships in eve are starting to look rather ragged compared to the new models/textures.
i esp like the camo on the cerberus, i am a bit disappointed that ccp did not add some launchers to the model though, boooo ------

I swear to god the Moa has got to be one of the ugliest things any human has ever piloted. Damn fine ship, but oh GOD was it a relief when I switched to other things.
The Merlin, on the other hand, is one of the most beautiful ships in the entire game.

I like the way the Caracal looks.
Moa is ugly but somehow it is ugliness that I like. There is a menace to its appearance.
I agree Merlin looks good and the variations like Hawk and the Harpy looks even better. I also like the Ferox, which is my favorite battlecruiser, and the Commorant which I use as a utility ship.

Most Caldari ships are just plain ugly. Exceptions to this (off the top of my head) are Harpy, Scorpion, Charon, Buzzard and Crow. I don't remember what Phoenix looks like.
The Raven could look good, but it has the stupid tail-box-thingie in the back so no. The lights are good, though, although one could mistake them for morse smacktalk

Those models are spectacular. That's exactly what I meant, CCP should update all the older ship models just like that.

I personally like the design of the caracal, but all the old ships are starting to look a little dated now, especially with all the new ships they made looking teh sechs.
CCP's art team need to put some time into updating the older ships, to be in line with the new ships.. especially as some of them have so many very easy to see problems with them.
Guns misplaced, sometimes not even connected to the ship, and on the jag, often missing all together.. on ships like the punisher.. those little bits at the end of the "wings" not even being connected to the rest of the ship!
Minmatar ships for the most part look horribly rushed..
And pretty much all the ship textures need updating, to look like the newer ships in quality..
Stop making the new ships, fix the old ones models first!

Minmatar Slasher, bleh talk about ugly, I do prefer Gallante and Amarr ships. But many of the ships are devoid of any higher functionality, unless you count the ORE mining ships...
Do you ever wonder why the ships turn like they are flying in air? They move like airplanes here in earth
The original Independence War ("I-war" for short) had it correct, sadly the reality isn't mirrored in Eve. I mean to make a 180 degree turn you spin the ship with side thrusters and after turning you open the thrusters again. You really can't control starships with just rear thrusters, you need many smaller counter-thrusters. And why are the ships flying always in the same way, why not upside down? It really doesn't matter in space.
But the most disturbing thing about all the ships is that they always seem to be like miniatyres. No real sense on size of things...

Good man. You obviously know quality when you see it. Gallente ships look great (well most of them anyway). The ugly ducklings in our fleet would have to be the Navitas, Exequeror, and the Dominix. But the Dominix makes up for that by being fearfully huge. :)
Highlights, in my opinion, the Incursus, the Maulus (tell me this thing isn't beautiful), and the Thorax.

It's a Vexor variant, and the Vexor is ... well it's kinda nice I guess. Oh wait, I should also add to my list the Tristan... that bad boy's always been one of the coolest looking ships in the game.

My first cruiser was a Moa So I'm biased, but I love that ship. It's built for pure function, who ever built it fully understands there is no Air in space, something the gallente just don't understand.
That "head" on the front, it just looks like it's going to pop out and strike you down.
Moa rocks. Caracal just looks like a drag racer, not like a space ship. Die Caldari haters! _ ____ _______ _________________________________________________________

Does it really matter what it looks like? All I am concerned about is the strengths/weaknesses of the craft I fly. For all I care CCP could give me a "make ship graphic a black box" button and messages like this could be put on the shelf.
I personally find that most of the Gal ships tend towards the penile in appearance. Why do all the Gals want ships shaped like that???

I wonder if CCP will ever eventually justify replacing all the original designs with updated models over time... perhaps ship types could be phased out of production and replaced with newer "pod optimised" designs over the next few years, as the corporations caught up with the pod pilot boom...
just think, the successor to the merlin or caracal, more in line with the newer ships' styles.... virtually the same ship stats on the "2nd gen" ships, but visually more defined.
in the meantime, I would gladly offer to retexture the lower-res ships if CCP would email me the master files.... only condition I'd ask for would be to let me stick screenies of the work in my folio :) (ah, I wish, eh?)
