Hello again.
I have just been takeing a look around the world of EVE, and I have to say, for a dread-pilot, I don't think I have ever seen such a target rich enviorment as there are in Immensea atm.
There are 10+ small POS towers with only a few guns in several systems. Ofcuz I didn't 'visit' them to see who got the most, but, someone better start breaking out the DREADS soon, or the war in Immensea will be won by the faction claiming the most moons, and flying the best haulers.
FIVE are not backing up Shinra, and the Shinra sponsored corps are looseing theire pilots to the battlehardend RA pilots left and right.
There are no peace in the south, and the people that live down there, better start makeing deals with the Red Army, because they are there to stay it seems.
FIVE seems to be isolated in this battle as the hobbits are digging veldspar and buying quaffe in LONEtreck, and not helping theire 'allies' secure the areas outside theire doorstep.

Is this pos war going on so people can see their name in the top left corner ? or are their conq in the systems ?
Btw: why waste energy and time on putting up and fuel all those pos,s instead of taking enemy pos,s down ?

It is in no way an insult. It is just very describeing. Fact : ASCN are not leaveing theire PRECIOUSSSS feyth / impass. They don't care if SE or SA is theire neighbour, as long as they can shoot Sansha-rats. They don't care if it is FIVE or RA that controll Immensea / Tenerifies.
Basicly, they just want to sit around, building stuff. They are the first 0.0 carebears. And I find that Hobbits are the perfect 'picture' of that.
Hobbits are shy, and don't like other people , and keep to themselfs, in theire Shire.. Well, Impass and Feythabolis might aswell be the shire, because it is in the middle of nowhere. NOONE have thiere empire that far from 'people' (as in , empire). They seldomly leave theire 'shire', and when they do, it is to go far-far across the mountains (empire) and into Mordor (Evil empire of the north). But, it is only a few of them leaveing up north.. Most stay back, to grow stuff.
ASCN are very much like the last alliance they had still, Xetic.

Edited by: Seleene on 27/09/2005 10:59:19 Oh, I didn't think you were actually trying to insult them. I think it's funny because I happen to agree with a lot of it.
They very well may not give a damn if Lucifer himself is living next door. I'd be wiling to wager that if Cyvok could figure out a way to cut off gate access from ASCN to Empire space for a couple months, he'd do it. The longer ASCN is left alone out in Feyth, the more entrenched they become.
It's debatable what the smarter play is. ASCN is building a fortress down there. In another couple of months, I imagine they'll have a fat Hobbity fleet of 15-20 Dreads and another four or five outposts to park them in as well.
EDIT - Bear in mind that the mentality behind ASCN comes from them leaving behind an alliance they got fed up with because XETIC was everyone's punching bag. ASCN is pretty much the opposite. If nothing else, the members of ASCN are fanatical about being members of ASCN. They have pride. The majority of XETIC really didn't. -

No.. I did not see them, since I always write posts when on work :)
Anyway, a blob do not help. Blobs are useless in the long-run. Only a constant pressence will help, and, FIVE don't have that. RA does.
After all, it is only a mather of pride realy. All the FIVE will have to do is send an offical request to the masterhobbit, have him set RA and RAT. to -10. When the hobbits learn that there is free food in immensea, there will come 1 gross (144) hungry hobbits with tech2 guns...
then again..
maybee the Hobbits just want the FIVE to die.. After all.. they ain't five no more, but soon, they might be the Nine, and, well, everyone knows hobbits don't like the Nine.

15-20 dreads? You must be jokeing.. I doubt they will be able to even put up 10 by christmas.. 5-6 dreads I think are about what any alliance will be able to put up. After all, they are not that good, and, the cost of a dread is about the cost of 12-15 battleships.. and 15 BS will own one dread any day of the week. Well, considering the apparent plans ASCN and indeed other alliances have (not only for capitol ships, but outposts), it's not a joke and is highly feasible. Whether or not they perform well in fleet combat has only been tested once so far to my knowledge and it's not good to make complete assumptions from that one Dread loss. Me, I'll wait and see as they become more commonly used as the number of competant dreads pilots isn't exactly high atm.
As with everything its how the FC commands a mixed fleet with Dreads, BS and support used to full effectiveness.

That would make you wrong. Fire your Intel chief.

The MC alone will likely field twice that number by the new year.

What if those 15 BS run into two or three Dreads that then enter Siege Mode? Ever seen that? It gets ugly. Fast.
I don't mean to be an ASCN cheerleeder; they still have us set to -9.0 because we kill people to feed our children. Death to ASCN and all that, ya know? I just think you're being a tad dismissive of what's going on in their neck of the woods.

good for dreads : 5 dread pilots give the firepower of aboutish 25-30+ battleships.. and we all know, how hard it is to get 50 BS pilots in the same place.
However, 10 eve-addicts in the same timezone with dreads should be doable.

I'm confused. Since when do we hate NBSI? Granted there's some healthy animosity but since Cartiff no longer sings to us that has cleared up a lot. On the other hand, we don't hate anybody come to think of it. I mean, we've got even a picture hanging at the ***** bar at one of the outposts of Seleene. After watching a dreadnaught go down to a small fleet in under 43 seconds (timed it) I wonder about the smarts of massing them in one place.
As long as you can outblob consistantly you are ok. The SECOND you can't field more numbers than the opponent is when one mistake can cost you 3b+ isk. Or the second they manage to draw your uber fleet off.
While a Dread is siege mode does tremendous damage and has good armor, I still think that even a small sized fleet warping in @ 15km and orbiting that dread could kill it in probably under 3 min. I haven't had the oppportunity to try yet, will let you know how that works out :). If so that dread represents a large amount of time and effort to risk.
And I have to agree with Chowdown - attacking POS, even smalls, is tremendously boring. You can't even go semi afk as if you get targeted and hit you have to warp out before the next salvo or risk being popped.

Apparently both the Five and BoB already have a sizeable number of dreadnaughts; and the issue is just waiting for enough pilots with the skills to fly them in siege mode.

Though POS wars are boring, equally boring is constant conquerable station flopping that occurred before sovernty. I think as we see more capable dread pilots who are able to properly tank things may get much more interesting... also there's a possibility that dreads came in pre-nerfered like the stealth bombers.

3b of dread against 300m of pos = pos win.
Until CCP make it viable for a dread to win, no one will use htem in the way they were intended and eve will stagnate, imo.

I think if we're gonna compare people in EVE to LotR characters, based on your posts, you would be the Grima Wormtongue of EVE.

Until CCP make it viable for a dread to win, no one will use htem in the way they were intended and eve will stagnate, imo.
A POS is a constant work for people living around it. They need to feed it the impressive amount of components and ice minerals it requires. This amount is even bigger if the POS is well protected. A dreadnough should not be the big flashy "WIN" button against POSs.
And... afaik it takes 30 minutes to a dread + 18 BSs to put a small POS in reinforced mode. Not a decent amount of time heh ?

QFT
btw stop the altpost already everyone can read youre neither neutral nor have a grip on reality by making statements such as "doubt they can afford 10 dreads by christmas".
Thats what, 40 bln isk ? I know players who have that amount of money in their own accounts not even speaking corp or alliancewide ressources.
As for the dreads, they are currently more a prestige and siege item, since their stats are totally inadequate for close combat or larger battles. On the otherhand a dread can with enough support most likely turn the tide in an equal (playernumbers) longrange battle if it is deployed smart and it can atleast theoretically atm turn the tide in pos wars.

Olyyy,
10 small POS's can be run with 1 indy per day. Overall cost for a small POS comes to about what, 40m... Nothing.
And it takes 1 hour for a dread and 18 BS's to put a small POS into reinforced. Too long for something that can be fueled for 10 days with one indy (not to mention use of freighters), and can kill BS's in a few shots.
Tbh though, the issue isn't with how long it takes to kill a POS, the issue is that they are far too cheap to buy and maintain. --------

A Small pos is mabye 50M including fuel. Dreads take fuel and dare I say WAY more logistics to even move.
In their current state they are an absolute joke. CCP prenerfed them, thats a fact. It's their new way of doing things because they are too lazy to test things properly and like to toss in their subscription carrots for us poor fools to drool over.

A dread is 2 weeks of just BUILD time, at a cost of 2b+ if u get cheap mins.
A dread requires a fleet of indy's to move it, perhaps even freighters if u lucky with the staging point.
A dread requires an escort of at least 30 people in any reasonably competent alliances' space.
A dread takes 15 minutes to jump, it would take about a WEEK to move the damn thing (assuming not 23/7 game play for all 31 pilots) from Agil to the ass end of 0.0, fethyabolis for example, and, when it gets there, without NPC stations or the ability to dock a freighter, escorted industrial runs through about 50+ jumps of hostile territory with Isotopes, ammo and other consumeables to keep it running and attacking the 15+ pos's that any defensively minded alliance would have running at their outpost / pcs station systems.
Don't try and justify the work load of a POS to negate the ability of a Dread, something that is DESIGNED to DESTROY a POS, to do what it is DESIGNED to do.
They need boosting. I'm quite happy for them to SUCK at killing battleships, but in siege mode any one dread should be able to tank the damage from even the baddest ass POS. It SHOULD take a fleet to SUPPORT the POS to destroy a Dread that is in siege mode.
They SHOULD be an "I win" button against pos, they should NOT be an "I win" button against pos AND a fleet.

I consider hard work behind a POS (a large one) should provide some advantages such as a relative safety (not absolute). Hard work and dedication should not be crushed easely by the first strike team. I think a relative safety of VERY well defended POSs would also bring more people in 0.0 (i think this relative safety currently exists)
I'd like to remind you also of one of the biggest current POS weakness: you can't have them focusing fire. A shame isn't it ? It means that any POS can be destroyed if you put the right amount of dreads on it. Logistic behind is hard ? Of course it is. Well used dreads are extremly powerful weapons against POSs. Do the maths about tanking capability of a dread in siege mode: it's impressive.
Enslaver => perhaps raising cost of small CTs to 50M and med one to 75M could be a good start ? I'm not against the principle of POS war tbh, it's a war in which the most dedicated side has a chance to win. Dedication is something I like, it makes you think twice before starting a war, it also gives a slight advantage to alliances with a decent industrial backbone (= isk). Maintaining dedication could also be interesting. I like when people fight for a little more than just fun (RP wise of course)

CCP needs to increase the Timer for installing a pos from 30mins to 3 hours before the shield goes up.
1 person in a industrial setting up a small POS right before or after downtime is lame. You should have to hang around guarding your POS long enough for a nice blip on the map to show up.
Re-enforce mode should be changed to large POS only. Waiting a day cycle to kill off a POS when it only takes 30mins to set up one is backwards and short sightedness on CCP's part. If you plan on erecting POSes, you should have to man a fleet to defend that space for a significant time.
Set up time verses take down time for POSsis screwed up ATM. Needs more balancing.
Now dont get me wrong, POSes need to have defences and be able to stick around for its defenders. POS war is LAME

wonders if peeps need to take lessons from NBSI on attacking defended pos's...They did a good number on a pos that was "oh so neutral" in providence. It was some what defended and they were able to block that "one indy with resuply" and a covert ops with resupply. Dunno I think pos's are able to fall pretty fast if you got a plan since you can't get them to concentrate fire power on one target with out mucking about with the standings mid fight. just my 2 cents... tho i really wanna hit a supremecy pos for kicks and giggles.

meh, simple tbh.
Someone with sufficient Anchoring skills has to be present in the grid where the Tower is being anchored. Force that person out, and the POS stops anchoring.
Its really ghey that a single indy can just warp from moon to moon, dropping a POS and warping on.
Atleast then it would take a reasonable fleet, or some decent planning.

I've seen a medium POS fully fitted with guns (until no more powergrid available) getting blown up by approx 6 squads of 6 pilots (36 BSs). After what I've seen I don't see how you can consider POSs as overpowered ;p That medium POS was better defended than 80% of large POSs currently anchored. POSs are not overpowered for something on which you rely to keep your assets safe. I would even consider as pretty underpowered with all the bugs they're victim of ^^
I wouldn't event comment Gallente and Amarr POSs which are laughable to tank with only 2 different dmg types.

ok ran the test twice not full threw but until i was satisfied with what the end outcome would be. first attack : minmatar tower balls to the walls with ew(after hardners and missiles up as much as we could to max out cpu) 4 hardeners 5 citadel/5 cruise enough guns to make you sick basicly as many as we could fit and get our hands on. 10 geddons Attacked with: 3 dreads 2 transports 2 bc with gang assist mods 4 scorps 5 megas/5 tempests various other small support ships to protect dreads. end of story..sniped the living **** out of it took a bit of time so decided why not try and get some warp dis. bubbles around the pos just in case so out came the cloaking transport and dropped some bubbles around the pos for those resupply chaps.... megas and tempests took care of the defenders trying to shoot em.
realisticly...need a fleet along with the assault force to play to cover for any attacking fleets.
test 2 same minnie pos with a second pos in system for fleet support. not so hot this time...over all it would come down to the fleet battle vrs the defenders..rotating assault force idea was brought up but didn't have enough ships to do it.... once a force wrps out do to fire another warped in...
in the end i think large pos's need an allaince to take out or a very large and organised corp.

why wouldn't a dread be able to kill a single medium POS ?? captial armor repairer can handle 1706 dmg/second in siege mode. You could tank more than 3400 dps from the POS (even more with duration bonus of capital repair system skill). On the other hand, a large artillery gun does 322 dps with EMP L, 214 dps on armor. You can't fit 10 large artilleries on a medium minmatar Control Tower... sounds like the dread tanks the POS ^^
At this time, dns tank medium POSs.

Assuming the State Department gets my damn passport back in the next couple weeks (had to renew), I'll take you up on that, Krapz!
As for the rest, I remember back when the first battleships started hitting the road. There were a lot of misconceptions about what they could or couldn't do. Seeing a big square warp in on you usually caused people to **** thier pants and scatter simply because no one had a good idea of what the things could do.
There is a similar chain of events going on with Dreads now. As more pilots become capable of flying them and placing them in real combat situations, I am sure the Devs will makes some adjustments. The EVE community has this nasty habit of finding ways to get around most problems. I just feel sorry for the poor bastards that lose thier Dreads in the process. -

No; Small CT's 250m, med 500m large 1b would be more realistic.
And you aren't taking into account the reinforced mode; which basically means that no matter what is attacking the POS, its going to take at least 24 hours to kill a POS. Imo, the single best change that could be made is to make it so dreads can keep shooting a POS that is in reinforced... --------

There is NO need to nerf the price on towers.. They are expensive as it is. And if you make so that dreads can shoot through reinforced-mode-thinge, you will wreack the game totaly.
POS wars ONLY apply's to station-ping-pong. This change : 1 large tower gives 4 'claim points' 1 medium tower gives 2 'claim points' 1 small tower gives 1 'claim point'
This will ease up a little on the tention. Besides, this ping-pong that is being played in Immensea, where RA through 'supperior tactics' as Evil Thug calls all dirty tricks that work, manage to take the stations from FIVE is not the norm.
FIVE have been sitting with 6-7 regions, that there are NO FIVE army defending. They have just taken the stations, and intimidated everyone so they ain't attacked. THEN, it comes to the point where you will actually have to DEFEND your lands by claiming souvereignity, by dropping a tower. They deploy some small tower, and leave. They are not present to defend what they claim.
Red Alliance come into Immensea, and they are present in theire timezones, and they deploy tower. This is weeks ago, but FIVE is not there to kick them out, something they have the manpower to do. Instead they lay all blame on 'RA superior tactics' of deploying hardware and gaining a presence in the area.
Now.. the stations that are left, 3 in each region, are Points Of Intrest. They SHOULD be fought over, and the once laying down the most work should be able to keep them. ASCN and SA have built some more stations. They cost a whooping 22 billion isk a piece. Those stations can't do stuff the 'free' stations can, and the 22 billion isk toy CAN BE STOLEN.
Now, you guys want to make it so the POS towers becomes even more useless. As in, more expensive, easier to shoot etc. Well, this is not quake. The reinforced mode are there to allow the once that own the POS to get a few hours to assemble a squad and go defend theire POS. IF it is not defended, it will fall.
Also like Olyyy pointed out, a Dread can tank quite a lot of dmg comeing from a POS. That means, that once 2 dreads and some support ships come along, you will either loose your POS within a few days, or you will have to chase them.
The fact that you can not totaly wipe out the presence of an alliance in just 45 min if you come with an uber-fleet is very nice. It brings more depth and dimention to the game.
Besides.. Tech2 stuff is expensive as it is. IF the towers price are like that redicilous billion etc, then tech2 ships won't be 10-20m for small and 50-100m for mediums. It will be more like 30m and 150-300m, because the production of tech2 stuff will halt.
IF the alliances that hold the stations stay to defend them, they will be able to totaly destroy 15 small tower easily over a 24-48h period by camping all the gates with multiple bubbles, and gank all the POS's into reinforced, then kill them off.
I am GLAD, that the 'we own 2,3,5 or 7 regions, because noone can be bothered to shoot the station' crap is over.

I dont think you'd be able to find any alliance in eve able to get people together to destroy 15 POSes in 1 sitting. Half the people would die of boredeom before you even got halfway thru. People find ALOT more enjoyment shooting other people, not stupid poses. This is a GAME ffs, not torture. We're not paying $$$$ to be caused misery by some stupid game mechanic no one enjoys.

IF your alliance is not intrested in laying down the work to hold stations, and they all just want to shoot stuff, then I do not see the problem.
You do not DESERVE any stations, and when you hold no stations, you and your evil armada can shoot all the shuttles you want on the curse-borders.
If your alliance are to hold the stations and get the billions from rent, refineing etc each month, DO SOME WORK ***** it. The hobbits are running around like ants, doing theire masters biddings, spending billions, and thousands of manhours to get 4-5 new outposts, and within 3 months, they will have them. That is a part of the game for them, and they find that fun. The hobbits whould lay a siege to a system with 100 man for a week if it was needed.
This IS a game, and it is a very very nice and balanced game. Quake-kiddies that just want stuff to blow up in 10 min, or hyperactive pilots that can't be arsed to do alliance fighting for theire 'home', is not the once this game should be made for.
The way it is now, an outpost in a system that is used by an alliance, and an alliance have 2-3 large POS's there with some guns, and have 10-15 small towers in the station with guns, ew.. the lot.., is not possible to take down in 1 day. You can take that system with a good force in a few days, if you keep up the pressure, but not before the defending part have gotten the time to prepare and counterattack. Against the NPC-stealable stations, that might seem a little dumb, but the Player built outposts.. they are the once this system is designed for.
You can deploy an outpost that costs like, 22 billion, and spend another 2-3 billions on protecting that system with POS's, and be fairly sure, than when you wake up sunday, after partying all weekend, the station will still be there, or atleast your towers are in reinforced mode.
Stealing stuff worth 20-25 billion isk + 1000 man man.hours SHOULD be hard. And if you want to make sure your system is safe, deploy 1 small pos at EACH moon in the entire system

Edited by: Tansien on 28/09/2005 09:49:03 Limiting the amounts of POS's in a system is the best idea i've heard tbh. solves alot of problems, like having to kill off 10 POS's in the same system.
Also needing to stick around for the entire deploy time is a good idea aswell.. As said before, hope CCP is reading.
Also to people saying everything is OK as it is: see how many people are willing to spend 2 months killing POS's in different systems. theres NOONE in the entire game that woulden't get utterly bored doing that.

I think this is the best solution to current crisis. It's simple to implement and logic. Result is simple: logistics to hold stations become harder and would cost more. People would of course rather deploy Large CTs which require more fuel. War would then have a cost, something people would think twice about... I like when isk are taken in count

POS's that claim a system are there so an alliance can get the station.
That is a 22 billion toy, that should in my opinion take a LOT of effort to keep.
The amount of fuel for 1 large equals 4 small. So, after deployment 4 small is the same amount of work as 1 large. Only thing is now, 4 small claim by the power of 4..
maybee a claim-pattern of, 7 = large 3 = medium 1 = small whould be better? That whould encourage people to deploy large POS's. And no mather how uber-l33t you PvP'rs want the dreads to be because they are so expensive and stuff, I still like the CCP solution the way it is today. Only thing that is needed is that a pilot can enter a firecontroll center and use the guns 'manually' along with the EW / webbers / scramblers.
If a dread can tank a POS's fire when in siege mode, the POS should get some modules that will boost it's shields aswell. 1 large POS vs 2 dreads should be a clean knock-out victory for the POS.

CYVOK don't write much on these boards, so I do not know. English ain't my language, and I am mildly dyslectic, so, I can't even write correct in my native thougue.
What I do know, is that CYVOK is from the US. But his posts always cause an uproar, an alliance to die or the cookies to dissapear.

"Siege Mode > Reinforced Mode?
I like it! "
Think the reinforced mode is there to not allow "attack POS at defender's 5 am to avoid possibility of them actually fighting back" time zone war tactics.
The POS owner is by design given right to pick the time of final engagement, meaning the attackers must actually make serious effort if they want to take it down. If the dreadnaughts were able to shoot POS 23/7, it'd effectively remove this mechanics :/
