At the devtrack there were talks about maybe doing firehoses of data. To those of you not in the know, a "firehose" would basically spew out data from TQ, as it happens. This could be system information data, jump data etc.
All kinds of data that is queried often by very large sites such as DOTLAN.
However, there were also talks about doing a killmail firehose, which would be all kinds of awesome if it happened. But it would/should have some limitations. Such as it's purely opt-in from the client side of things.
And there should also be a slight delay on the data being spit out, so it can't get abused (atleast, not to predict enemy movements or the likes). This would/should be for all the firehoses.
But all in all, i personally think a firehose would be a _GREAT_ idea to do when CREST launches. (Or short thereafter) |

I'm fully in favor of this kind of thing.
Firehoses aren't perfect, as if you stop listening for a short time, you'll have missed stuff, but if the data isn't /critical/, then they're wonderful.
Ideally you'll want to be able to pick up a state dump every so often as well, to fill in anything you may have missed.
It's also perfect for market data. The data is perfect information when it's sent, but you won't be able to build up a perfect view of the world from it, due to the time it takes to transmit it. Steve Ronuken for CSM 8 Handy tools and SDE conversions Twitter: @fuzzysteve on Twitter |

I'm in favor for such a feature aswell.
I'm very interested in seeing jumping data (with a slight delay) to be presented in a map as shown in one of the videos. (Can't remember if it was shown in the EVE keynote or somewhere else). |

This is a good idea. 98% of killmails involving other players are made public anyway, so it's not a big deal. - |

For kills it would be a great idea. Although for other things something more reliable would be great.
What I would see is to have the CREST servers send a request to your server (by adding a callback URL in your settings) when an update happen and delay messages when you get an error (Unreachable, error 500, error 404) if it fails too many times, halt the posts and send an e-mail to the application developer, also, only players who explicitly allowed such access would trigger such calls. (It's kinda how Paypal works with payments)
(Data would either need to be verified through another call, or an hash with a private key) |
