Last night I was about to make the final delivery on an agent mission when I got into unexpected trouble:
I had just entered Hjortur system and wanted to dock at a station that was about 30 AU's away. I right clicked the station in the scanner and selected DOCK which made my ship auto-warp to the station before docking. So far so good. However - my Probe did not have enough power to make it all the way to the station in one jump, so I dropped out of warp a good 4 AU's from my destination.
My ship computer obviously did not realize how far away the station really was, because it initiated the docking sequence and set out for the docking parameter at my maximum impulse speed of measly 400 m/s.
I didn't quite feel like waiting the years it would take cover 4+ AU's at just over the speed of sound, so I right clicked the station again in the scanner and selected WARP TO.
(By the way: Yes, I DO know that there is no sound in space - or at least shouldn't be, but then all these space games wouldn't be much fun would they? )
Anyway, I managed to warp the final leg to the station, but when I dropped out of warp again (still quite a few miles away) I immediatly got the "Docking request accepted" message and lost control of the ship. I thought - "Well, fair enough. At least I seem to be going in the right direction " And I did, it's just that I kept going straight through the station and out on the other side and kept going at 400 m/s (which suddenly seemed quite fast) when I got out on the other side
When I began to realize that the docking would fail (happens once in a while as I'm sure you too have discovered ) I tried to right click the station and select DOCK again, but I didn't get the drop-down menu
Actually right-clicking in the surroundings did not work for any objects at all. I could still right click objects in the scanner though, but when I tried to WARP TO or DOCK any object I would only get the "Can't navigate while docking" message.
This was rather annoying since I was about to end an agent mission by delivering whatever-it-was at that station and was running a bit late. Still, I quit EVE, logged on again, found myself floating in space about 100 km from the station and was finally allowed to dock.
I tried to repeat the situation once by DOCKing a station 38 AU's away. My ship again tried to dock from several AU's away, but by selecting DOCK again instead of WARP TO I managed to dock without problems that time.
By the way, I managed to make the delivery just in time ---------- We are born naked, cold and hungry - then things get worse... |
