I do believe the people from CCP have a vision about how combat should work. From 1:1 combat to fleet battles. I do believe they will try to achieve their goal regardless of all critics. They have done so in the past and hopefully they will continue in future. Listening to the majority and this game will become mainstream. I do believe CCP doesnt try to create wow or sims in space but a cold and hostile game experience which is still enjoyable because it's mostly a fair but hard challenge.
Yes, I miss my bestower with 4 quad lif afterburners, I miss stamped heatsinks and stacked gunnery skills, I miss mwd on battleships without cap and sig penalty, I miss my old mega pulse, I miss oversized afterburner on my maller... It all was fun but the game became better after the 'nerfs'.
Balancing 1:1 is one problem but to my surprise CCP comes pretty close to a good balance regardless of the countless options we have with all the skills, ships, modules and all their variations. It's a miracle. It's still far from perfect, though.
Fleet battles are a different problem. If CCP thinks all members of fleet A should shoot one pilot of fleet B who then dies in seconds regardless of his setup then CCP has achieved their goal.
I somehow do believe they have a different vision of fleet battles. Maybe they think modules like remote repairers should play a role in fleet battles? Maybe they think killing a battleship should always last longer than a few seconds?
They always have to keep balance in a way that it's working for both: 1:1 and large fleets. Simply increasing HP doesnt help because it will destroy 1:1. Everybody will just fit a jammer and hopes for his chance to escape. Escaping is far to easy in this game.
I know I don't make much friends but I say ganking is the problem. I am sorry but I cant see a great tactical achievement by ganking inferior numbers. Currently escaping must be easy because of ganking. Now you can say 'it was your fault to run into our gank fleet. You could have used instas, safe spot, scout, interceptor'. The veterans know when and how to avoid combat if they dont want to fight or if they choose only fights they can win. I want a game when even the vets can not always choose when or when not to fight.
I want escaping from combat to become very hard. I hope for a removal of instas. I hope for a very very bad penalty for using wcs. Today if I want to find a unconsentional 1:1, I have to fit a webber, a scrambler, a sensor booster only to find out the other one has more wcs or he breaks my lock or even worse he uses this 3 slots for more usefull stuff so I will loose. I don't like to be forced to use so many modules only to catch and to hold my pray. Solution: ganking with superior numbers.
Now if ganking would be no longer possible we could remove instas. We could say a ship that is under attack (taking damage) can not warp away unless it has a wcs (with the mega penalty). Fleet combat could become even more than calling primary targets. Inferior numbers could try their chance against bigger fleets. And the victims have more than 5 seconds to think 'wtf' before they die.
Diminishing return alone seems to be a bad idea but it can open a way to nerf instas and so on.
