I dont know how many of you remember the last series of 'WH Live events" but they serve as perfect examples of why the current GM s are trying to hard to make it "big" and "easily acessible". As small, hard to join ones DEFINATELY come across as playing favorites, even if that was not the intention.
In case you dont know what I am referring several years aago we had 3(that I know of) special live events that we had in WH space, 2 of them happened in Aperture Harmonic's class 6, and the third some tiny russian farming corp.
1. An amarr fleet was seen in their C6 at an anomaly, they showed up on D scan and even spoke in local, this was meant to represent the amarr going in and getting the tech needed for Dust soldiers. For whatever reason AHARM didnt act on it and the event yielded no interesting interaction.
2. A helios belonging to one of the famous "missing" researchers was found in AHARM's class 6, abandoned, inside of it was a datacore containing Jovian tech and a log of her exploits and what she learned from the sleepers before she joined the sleeper society by digitalizing her soul. AHARM blew it up. nothing useful gained.
3. A Spatial rift opened up right at a POS ( on grid) containing a "jumpable" spatial rift, the russians being carebears panicced and logged off. Nothing of value was gained.
Now in the aftermath of all 3 of these many WH players expressed dissatisfaction, not only did the events yield nothing, but the vast majority of us didnt even have the chance to join in if we wanted, and the fact that 2 of them happened to the same corp led people to believe that CCP was playing favorites with AHARM.
In addition i suspect the planning and execution of these events required a good amount of planning on CCP"s behalf, and to see their work end up fruitless AND unappreciated surely didnt inspire them to continue.
that is why it is imperative that any WH live event is acessible to those who want to come, AND seems fairly balanced to all involved. |
