Edited by: DeusXi on 24/08/2003 01:41:45 16 perception and 14 willpower and learning lvl 4 get's me 25 days on the lvl 5 indies...
I do still have some room to train up the learning skills tho, 17/15 and learning 5 will cut it to aprox. 22 days for any lvl 5 indy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Am I evil? No I'm not =P |

I have lvl 5 learning, to get from lvl 4 indi to lvl 5, it takes me 48 days. Makes more sense to get my refining skill up to lvl 5 first.

I think training most skils to level 5 is a waste of time, an extra 5% in most thing is not worth waiting a week for the skills to train, and most skill trees dont need you to be that high to progress to another skill anyways, even training to fly battleships only needs lvl 4 Cruiser!!!

Not to forget that a bestower can be killed in one volley by a battleship. (not every time but the chance exists) Now that sensor boosters can be used again even an instajump is not always safe using a bestower.
I'd go for the lvl 5 iteron if i was a hauler or trader :)

i'm a mk5 pilot and i'd pick it over any indy, it did take me 34 days but i still did it. i run 11251 cargo with 2 partials, 2 alphas, and one 22. it only gets better with bigger expanders.

Edited by: Bobby Wilson on 02/09/2003 05:54:27 Edited by: Bobby Wilson on 02/09/2003 05:45:03 To my mind here the ROAD to the Iteron V is the main problem. I've got a designated indy account (Gallente) and she wuz at Indy 3 starting INdy 4 when I did the math. The main problem to my mind is that the Iteron IV is an inferior vessel. So in fact I would be using my III for the whatever 24-27 days it would take to train up to Indy 5 and get the It V.
So having spent a VERY short period of time training Amarr frig 3 and indy , I now have a Bestower with Amarr indy 2. With basic expanders (forgot comparing loot stuff, Basic we all know even if we don't use them) the Bestower has 6733.67 cargo. With basic expanders the Iteron III has 4942.84. This is because: 1. Best has better base Cargo, 2. Bestower gets 5% bonues to base capacity per indy level, even at indy 1. 3. Bestowers have 4 low slots.
The above numbera are only Amarr indy 2 ppl. Tomorrow I'll have 3 and an even bigger hold. Remember too that increases to Bestower cargo are based on skills and have no velocity disadvange, unlike most expanders. So you could have a hold larger than an unmodded Iteron III while having excellent overdrives or good loot nanofibres in your low slots significantly increasing speed ( Bestower has a better base speed than the It III, IV or V)
Plus, I get those 3 weeks or so of Bestower use(again instead of being stuck with an It III while training) with access to the Betower's 4 mids slots, so I can travel the world with a conglomoration of EW gear, ABs and whatever else.
Granted, the Iteron V is a better ship than the bestower IF you are willing to train indy skill to 5 and if you're prepared to use a III for weeks. But why would you want to? An indy driver has many skills that are more useful trained to 5, I would especially recommend Engineering 5, AB 5, Accel Control 5 (this is profound on every level, especially if like the Bestower or Badger II or eventually Iteron V your indy can mount 4 afterburners) and Fuel Conservation 5 too if you really have training time to spare.
Alternately, if yer a combat hauler or work on mining ops in <0.5 space, you can be an asset to your crew by taking some of that training time you seem to have too much of, and put it into EW skills and the skills for a 3rd indy, a Badger II. You could become the EW officer in your corp ops as well as the hauler. Bringing a BB out on a mining/rat hunting/light security op is a waste of a person, whereas the Badger II can act as an indy or a ultra-light EW cruiser at will.
I'm going to have the Badger II and Bestower, each with their own tasks, with less time and money than it would have taken to get Iteron IV. I'm going to keep the Mk IIIs around for sentimenttal reasons, but otherwise naught. Maybe if CCP never introduces another usefull skill, I'll get to the point where the 20 some-odd days from Gall indy 3 to 5 is worth the skill training time, but that time isn't now.
BW
BTW, the simple solution to the upgrade path is to give the Iteron IV some lovin', so Gallente feel like they're getting something from their training between indy 3 and indy 5. At the very least Iteron IV should have the same powercore, base speed, slots (2 high, 4 med, 4 low) of the Bestower. It should prolly also have a little more cargo bay than the current Mk IV config and maybe somewhere around Iteron 4 start having the iteron manoever less like a slow steam train and more like a spaceship. Yet another thing that blew me out of the water about the Bestower, it actually handles decent and turns in less than an hour.

I don't know why the Iteron mkIV gets such stick. Yes it does have a lower power grid than the mkIII, but with engineering lvl4 this will reach 24 and allow 3 ABs if necessary. And who cares if it has a little less shield and armour.
The benefits are an extra mid slot, a little better speed, a little better cargo and much better handling.
The mid slot adds hugely to the survivability of the ship. When in 0.0 space I would carry a small shield booster, warp stabilizer and 2 ABs and this got me out of a few sticky scrapes.
I was going to train Gallente indy lvl5 as my character was a pure haulier and trader and had the time saved from not needing to train the more time consuming guns and ship skills. However my character has changed direction and my lovely little mkIV has been mothballed.

Tobiasrieper, no your not the only player who sticks to flying their own races ships.
I'm gallante and currently learning Industrial level five, I've got about fifteen days left for my Iteron Mark V. The main reason for sticking to my own race is that I think Gallante produces the best looking vessels.
