When I was in FW, I was always curious as to how he could gank the squids in hisec Caldari space and what sort of setup he needed. But I don't have a definitive answer and hope others can help chime in here.
Does he have an alt scout not in FW and looks for squids to gank. If so, then he's dualboxing . But the problem becomes that his main, Loren Gallen, has to tank the Caldari police force while he's still taking damage from the gankee. I don't think he can survive long enough to take damage from both gankee and the police force. Admittedly, most gankees never see it coming so he's really only concerned about the police force.
Or is he tri-boxing? He has an alt scout, his main (the DPS), and a logi alt (in FW) that will rep him while he's taking damage?
I know there are some kills where he just waits for the victim to take alot of damage (during their missioning) and he just comes in for the kill. So that can be dualboxing with a scout. But it doesn't explain other kills which requires a more sophisticated setup.
Thoughts? Inquiring minds want to know. |

Good day, Deen:
How are you doing?
My guess from what I've seen in and out of FW is neutral alt to scout. The neutral alt may also be a boosting Loki / Tengu.
Neutral RR wouldn't be out of the picture either.
Of course, all of this is speculation.
Thank you.

Faction Navies (Navies not Police) are very tankable in .5-.8 systems. 1 neut / militia scout+1 well tanked ship (Rokh or Hyperion work well). Scan...warp in...neut the pve ship in 2 cycles...shoot the resistance hole while the npcs shoot him too...warp out...neut alt picks Up loot. All done in under 1min.
Or just pick a fast aligning ship and roam around high sec popping badgers on autopilot. Faction Navies are slow and NEVER point. |

Not true he has gotten kills in 1.0 as well. Though his majority are in 0.5 because that's the easier ones.
Loren is a bit of a local deity in the militia. He has shared his secrets with a few of us but we'd never share them with anyone else.
We have some new aspiring Lorens in the making as well. |

Neutral boosting/probing t3 is always good to have - 5 links + bonused probes, scan mission, warp gank bs in, pop carebear. Or just scout agent station and wait carebear on gate next door. Or use neut mach to bump him off station when hes trying to dock/when hes undocking and finish him with bhaal as hes slowboating to docking range.
Anyway, it takes alot of waiting + planning and "pvp" you get isnt very interesting. You warp in, apply neut and dps, tax avoider is going wtf, tax avoider goes boom. If enemy militia tries to chase you, you dock and go watch **** for a while.

Guessing he uses T3 alt which is standard for "solo PvP'ers" these days and/or a neutral RR alt which are very common in high-sec "PvP".
Then it is just a matter of ditching the navy which can be done easily enough by off-loading the aggro onto one of the alts (just needs to be in militia for it not to be an exploit) or by messing up their spawn by logging off/on and thus not having them around at all ...
In case you missed it: PvP does not exist in high-sec AT ALL, hence the quotation marks. Ganking is all it is, and as Goons have proven several times over the years it doesn't take rocket scientists or pro-athletes to gank hapless unaware noobs. |

Loren has killed plenty of combat pilots as well more than bears and AFKers.
Just recently he fought a whole gang by himself.
Also sometimes the 'bear' in question sometimes is a trap, he still manages to win though or he smells it from a mile away and gets the **** out.
He does plenty of low sec too. None of you commenting on him actually know him. |

Loren Gallen is an expert pvp'er. I've had the pleasure to fight with and against him and do know his setup for high-sec ganking. Some of it is fairly straight forward, some not so much. There is no neutral logistics involved, but a t3 boosting/probing alt is a must.
Loren Gallen is not the only one who does it, but he is the best at it. Jalmon and Bobamelius Two are two other prolific hunters. All 3 of them have gotten some incredible kills and there is an eve-vid out there by Bob. You can search all 3 of them on the killboards and see that the ships suited for this kind of work range from Typhoons to Paladins and Bhaalgorns, and they all have 3 key factors in common, which you need to figure out by yourself ;)
I've been out on some of these hunts, and contrary to what most people think it's not a high paced gankaton. Spending 5 hours only to catch 1 t2 fit dominix is normal for these guys and in my opinion not really worth it. I still have a typhoon collecting dust in Cat, maybe one day I'll return. It's not all waiting in vain for dominixes, they do hit the big kill now and then, and reap the isk and accolades when they do. Much like big-game hunting in the real world I'd assume.

If someone enjoys it and is succesfull, ok. But there is no magic behind it. Simple use /and sometimes abuse / of eve pvp mechanics.

I've spent quite a lot of time studying Lorren and trying to figure out how I can do the same, and this is what I've come up with:
1. He has a loki boost (very important for catching targets and boosting tank) 2. He uses expensive ships, like the Machariel (Machs have great range, great dps, high speed to burn to victoms, and decent tanks) 3. He uses blue pills (Blue pills boost his active shield boost amount by a LOT, allowing him to stay in the fight way longer) 4. He uses at LEAST one cap injector to prevent his ship from capping out during the fight, while allowing his booster to stay on. 5. Unconfirmed, but he may have yet another character in the Caldari militia itself acting as spy and feeding him intel. A lot of his kills seem to be pre-scouted it seems. He also pounces on people very quickly and runs away when engaging on gates before backup can arrive.
He's really good at what he does, and has it down to a science. Even so, he still manages to lose his ships (though even if he does lose his ship, it's a drop in the bucket compared to the isk he makes off dropped mods). |

It isn't a giant mystery. He puts in the time, he gets the results. People are just too damn lazy to replicate his methodology because it will involve; - researching the biggest carebears in Caldari militia; - sit outside the prime mission station, figure out who is flying the stupidly expensive ships, what it is called - ninja scan it with a ship scanner nd maybe even a stealth scanner to figure out its fit and figure out what you need to kill it - combat probe him down after you see where he warps off to in system - warp your alt to the mission gate, light the gang links
Then all you need to do is warp your expensive faction BS in to the site (and quoth the Wutang Clan, fsck the police) and shoot the dude.
I mean, seriously, with a blue pill and faction booster plus a T3 alt, you can tank anyone who is doing any level 4 mission. With a faction point, and a proper gang link from a Loki alt with mindlink you'll get well over 30km point. Hardly anything mystical here, just properly investing ISK in the venture (and reaping the rewards).
We are talking about hunting people who are only barely above bot software themselves; they get on a mission bender for 4, 5 hours while their mum is cooking them mac and cheese. Grind mission, rinse and repeat. They are in a system with 60, 80 or more in Local so they won't see a red star turn up in Local and won't be scanning the list like they would in a war because the Poliss will protect them. They will be chuffing their way through the spawns, probably on the warpin, and then, bam, red flashy Machariel or Bhaalgorm or whatever, and its all over.
Its not magic, people. It is just good hard work, balls the size of pumpkins, and not having a name Aaron Aardvaark so you don't show up on the Local list right at the top. |

With all due respect to Loren and his impressive string of ganks, I think he'd be the first to admit that most mission ships fold like a tent within seconds of the neuts on the gankship completing their second cycle. Ninjas often take on 2 and 3 mission bears at a time and a single friendly repper will make a huge difference in those ganks.
I would suspect that he uses a neut T3 scanner/booster, his Main in the Mach of Doom and maybe a 3rd toon who reps as needed. That would account for his FW kills I think.
Major props to the guy though, we enjoy seeing the carnage he inflicts upon the mission bears. Recruiting is OPEN Please join our public channel The Ninja Dojo for more info |

Until recently out of my one year of play, I've mostly flown buzzards and we've been in FW for a handful of days during off hours, sorry about that. wrt missions, yes, we use them to get ISK for Ravens of doom, and since when has tax been significant? It was more of an oh cool a wart, let's go shoot it, kind of moment as I got in my blackbird.

A handful of days. Sorry you feel that way, but see points above. I'm sure that if you do your faction warfare thing long enough we'll see each other (when I have a bit more free time too). I think you are taking this game and KB stats a little too seriously. |

i must admit , loren gallen is a great PvPer
the only time i've fought him was when i was on my way to a nearby wormhole in my solo pilgrim , i encountered this flashy paladin , webbed down to oblivion off a gate and attacked by navy police.
without hesitation , i shed my cloak , pointed , webbed and TDd this palladin. and was surprised to see how much dmg he was still putting on me, despite the TDing. i then switched to both tracking scripts (instead of one) and by the time i finally got close enough to outtrack his guns i was in half armor as well , as i was moving at 40m/s with my AB overloaded thx to his bonused webs ^^ , after that , my rep could keep up with his dps , and we settled into a confortable stalemate
at that point , i knew i didnt have dps enough to kill him , so i spammed militia chat for backup, to tilt the stalemate in my favor.
you see the problem was not that i couldnt win , i would win eventually , because his cap boosters would run out (i didnt see any logi's on grid ) and once it did , he would melt faster than icescream in the sun; the real problem was that despite my neuting he was holding his tank quite well at half armor against the navy and my drones and he was moving back to gate faster than it would take him to use his last booster.
needless to say , the backup arrived just as loren jumped into the next system after he had reached gate jump range and deaggroed.
after 5 minutes i recieve a mail from him saying GF :D and i returned teh favor
i have to say that even tho this fight didnt get me a kill/loss mail , it was the most challenging one i've had in months. thank you loren for this opportunity , and i hope i'll find you someday and manage to catch you in a deadspace pocket ^^

For better or worse, Gallente missions are probably are more challenging to do *relative* to the 3 other factions. As such, the pilots would rather just go pew than deal with NPC ECM jams and such.
Caldari tend to have easier missions with Gallente NPC and as such, it causes them to want to bear more than Gallente. I'm sure there are other contributing factors but having easier missions to grind doesn't always help the Caldari on the pvp front. It's a double-edges sword.
I give Loren alot of credit for just having patience. I once tried for 2 hours and gave up. So I know those epic kills does take alot of time and patience. Some people have the temperament and some don't.

Loren has given me a few pointers on emulating his feats. It is not trivial but it can be done. My last Abaddon loss was due to my Gallente FW alt/spy disconnecting at an inopportune time combined with my inattention to detail regarding the security level of the system I was in. Things can rapidly spiral out of control.
Without knocking Loren's technique at all, there are literally no end of players in Caldari FW to hunt. They make it easy for him at times.
There are several Gallente FW players and corporations that farm the bountiful supply of tax evaders, mission farmers and hubris-tanked ignoramuses in Caldari FW. It took a CNR loss for me to stop being one of those mouth-breathing idiots though I didn't lose it to Loren.
