I'm thinking of becoming a permanent resident of Mars. This would be a fun adventure n the true frontieer. But would I be able to take EVE with me? Would I still be a US citizen? CCP don't make us wait another decade for a drone overhaul; DRONE OVERHAUL NOW! |

You think Jita lags, now? Jesus, wait until it takes the signal 2 years to get to you....
You could always ask CCP to send a server with you, so you can set up EVE: Mars.... you know for a fact they'd be down to do something like that. Sweeten the deal by reminding them they would be the first developer to put an MMO on another damn planet! "you can identify eve players by looking at their cars. In fact.... I think we need to start a petition to CCP and get them to send a copy of the entire game world out with the Mars mission. It'd give ya'll something to do on the flight over, and on the seemingly epic amounts of downtime ya'll will have, once you're there.
Then, a meme comes to mind "Yo, dog.... we heard you like flying in space..." "you can identify eve players by looking at their cars. Since they don't drive what they can't afford to lose."-á --áBienator II |

EUGH, I hope they set up an internet connection to earth if we do eventually go to mars.
Otherwise they might have to split EVE up into 2 [okay 3] servers. |

I can just imagine that show will just be like: Day 1: All the colonists are setting up the tools required for life on another planet Day 4: The colonists didn't know how to set up the tools so now they just sit there and wait for death. IIRC the average time for signals to get from Earth to Mars is about 14-15 minutes.

If you think you can play on TQ like that, be my guest. If you take it with you, have fun playing with 3 other people.
Pros: Mars is ******* awesome cons: the internets there suck
He could always mine ice. Hell if he found some way to do bulk data pulls trading could be a viable option. You'd need some kind of way to request info on many items at once though, as checking one item every 2 hours would destroy your ability to collect data. Let's see...what else... planetary interaction? Again you'd need bulk data dumps but once into was gathered and stuff set up it *could* work.
I'm actually seriously curious now what other aspects of eve would be playable with 1 hour lag. Any ideas? This Space Intentionally Left Blank |

If a wireless connection or uplink were possible, we're looking at roughly 20 minutes.

People dont read... What are you on about... They do however, always have an opinion on **** they know nothing about...
Wonderfull how a little bit of reading beforehand can help... It's human nature to want to explore. To find your line and go beyond it. The only limit, is the one you set yourself. |

Indeed. It's going to be incredibly difficult to get in even if you're a skilled professional that's critical to the success of the mission.
It's going to take a lot more than "I'd be willing to give up everything to go". My bet is people won't even get a look in unless they're doctorate holders or skilled workers like electricians with 10+ years of experience in the relevant areas.
I'd have applied if it wasn't for the whole TV spectacle around it. A man of genius makes no mistakes. His errors are volitional and are the portals of discovery. |

I mean, what else do I have going on aside from video games, a job, bills, annoying girlfriend I'm considering dumping, and the occasional cool movie in the theater.
I actually have submarine experience and training that I believe may translate well to space travel. Summary of EvEs last four expansions: http://imgur.com/ZL5SM33

hmm. the adventurist in me thinks going to and living on another planet for a time would be pretty neat...the pragmatist in me thinks it would probably suck ass after a while. especially a planet like mars. which is cold, airless (not breathable air anyway) barren and...beyond the novelty romance of it being an alien world which would likely wear off...boring.

But it's not just "for a time", it's for the rest of your life!
That's what didn't really click with me when I first read about it. I thought "oh, that'd be cool, I could live on Mars", and then it really hit me what it would be like.. every day would be a trial. Sure, you'd have some downtime to relax, but most of the time you're patching holes and setting up or operating equipment to continue to make Mars that much more habitable.
Not saying it can't or shouldn't be done, though. |
