Probably in the wrong forum, but I'm not sure which one this belongs in.
I keep seeing threads that refer to Carriers and I'm curious, as everyone talks about them in future tense.... where can I find out more information about these? (yes, I looked first, please don't flame). ----------------------------------------------- Nothing is predictable except the stupidity of the masses. ----------------------------------------------- |

Yep, you're in the right place.
Talk of carriers has just came about recently, but not much is yet known about them. Your best bet is probably to watch the Dev Blog and In Development sections of Eve Insider to get the first scoop on planned patches and content

Well right now the only real carrier in the game is the Amarr Abitrator-Class Cruiser, and in all honesty it fits the characteristics of a carrier perfectly in that it is:
A: Poorly armed (relatively speaking) B: Not very fast C: Sparcely armored for a ship it's size -and of course- D: Large Fighter Bays, the only other cruiser with that large a drone capacity is the Thorax (I think).
But it would add another dynamic to fleet warfare in the game should carriers be added.

Um, what about the Vexor, Ishtar, Ishkur, and the king of them all, the Dominix?
They're all drone carriers, and only the Ishkur has a smaller bay, AFAIK.

The TRUE carrier in-game is the Dominix, which fits a slightly different story than the Arby.
The Domi has an extremely strong tank, can fit a fair amount of damage itself and can diversify in cap/e-war.

You're right, but I was excluding gallentean vessel though because they have larger drone bays as a specific Race trait, but yeah I should have said something.
As for the Dominix, it falls under what I just said about gallentean ships, even so it qualifies more as a supercarrier than anything.

lol dominix supercarrier .....The moross can use 35 so id say a supercarriwer by definition should be capable of more. Now imagine that a carrier with 50 drones orbiting it and say 10 scavenger drones looting cans

always assume carriers to be like the ones from homeworld :P or something like that lol :P
since they can also use xlarge guns, should be near in par with a dread and powergrid, cap, hp, etc
assuming a carrier might have 20k hp across the borders and more considering the 25% increase in hp, so it should be able to tank a couple bs's and cost much less than a dread, being able to use stargates would be less as would provide a capital ship with being more mobile than the heavy bulked dread is

When the devs announced kari they said the only 2 things that will be in it for sure, were Carriers and Titans.
Only things they mentioned was Carriers will be Capital ships and will use "Fighters" _______________________________________________

Only true if you count new ships. There's loads of other improvements coming with it.
And the "Fighters" are XL drones, which are the size of frigs, or thereabout.

If you've read the E-ON magazine it gives pictures and detials on the new Carrier class capital ships.
They can fit XL guns, but fitting only 1 of these will run you completely out of pg/cpu their offensive capability using weaponry is less then that of a standard Battleship. However, their fighters should be able to tear up a Battleship. Carriers are supposed to be mobile rapid deployment vessels, housing a corporate cloning facility that your corpmates can be revived in mid battle and then undock from the carrier in a spare ship. AFAIK.
I think i read somewhere that it can carry about 20 ships from cruiser size and downwards. Might be wrong though. The E-ON magazine also said something about them being a sort of Command and Control ship giving gang-wide bonus's to some statistics just by being in the fray of battle.

If your clone is inside the carrier, what happens if it gets destroyed? And wasn't a role like that supposed to be ofr Titans? I thought the carriers were supposed to be capital ships with XL drones and Titans be mobile stations

It'll get sent to another station, like when people capture a conquerable station and boot out all their enemy's clones.

Titans will be mobile stations - far bigger and slower than a carrier will be. They'll also include things that carriers won't, like factories and lab slots.
Carriers and XL drones - maybe they will have XL drones, maybe they won't. Maybe the XL drones are the swarms of fighter frigates that you can launch, each with a real pilot. Certainly a lot more useful than a dumb-ass XL drone that will take half an hour to reach its target before deciding to attack a corpmate instead.

A lot of the Gallante ships and especially the Moros Dread fall under the old Star Fleet Battles class of "Space Control Ship" a class that can mount heavy weapons and is a poewerdul ship on uits own, but ises its fighters and guns to effectivly 'control' an area of space, and use its fighters and itself as an integratred whole. A full carrier would have extrra drone space and only very light armement, its entire structure given over to the servicing of its fighters. Basicly specialised in the role of carrier and using its fighters as its sole progected armament. Teshnically a carrier should not even be used on offensive combat itself at all.
But wheres the fun in that
