I think that all the new drone textures are great, but - and maybe I'm wrong in this - it seems something went wrong with the sentry drone animations.
I looked around the forum, but I didn't notice anyone writing about this...I guess I'm one of the rare people that zooms in on drones in action.
Before the patch, sentries were animated as a big gun with 4 antennas, and no exhaust. They would point the 'gun' end to the target and fire, and when idle, they would just point straight on the same plane as the ship.
After the patch, the 'gun' part appears to be the 'engine', with flaming exhausts always on, and they fire from the other end, that does not really look like a gun - more like a rear end of the drone. The exhaust is always on, and it seems a bit redundant to see a sentry drone flaming its engines constantly while standing still. Also, when idle, the drones point towards the ship that launched them, rather than just rest.
Summary: sentry drones have exhaust coming out of their guns and they shoot from their bottoms now in Retribution 1.2.1

On the topic of moving drones:
I think it would be interesting to be able to use tractor beams on sentries. This would open up some interesting strategies, where you could give up fitting guns/neuts on a Dominix (or other drone boats) for a utility of being able to drag your sentries with you as you move around.
On original topic:
Regardless of sentries being able to move or not, I think that the engines in the current models should be on the opposite side than they are in this patch. It's not a bug perse, I just think that models are not being used ideally the way they are animated now.
This was the situation before the patch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=OsCt5f5g2xU
This is where I think the sentry drone engines logically should go (it's a really old video, but the sentry drones have exhausts in it): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QLAgzc19O0&t=3m22s
For the current animation I don't have a video - but just fly out, deploy sentries and have them shoot at something and let us know what you think... |
