I think that all the new drone textures are great, but - and maybe I'm wrong in this - it seems something went wrong with the sentry drone animations.
I looked around the forum, but I didn't notice anyone writing about this...I guess I'm one of the rare people that zooms in on drones in action.
Before the patch, sentries were animated as a big gun with 4 antennas, and no exhaust. They would point the 'gun' end to the target and fire, and when idle, they would just point straight on the same plane as the ship.
After the patch, the 'gun' part appears to be the 'engine', with flaming exhausts always on, and they fire from the other end, that does not really look like a gun - more like a rear end of the drone. The exhaust is always on, and it seems a bit redundant to see a sentry drone flaming its engines constantly while standing still. Also, when idle, the drones point towards the ship that launched them, rather than just rest.
Summary: sentry drones have exhaust coming out of their guns and they shoot from their bottoms now in Retribution 1.2.1

Man, I sure hope this in an indicator that sentries will be able to move in the future. They wouldn't have to move fast. Just fast enough that you didn't have to sit still to use them. |

I read in some dev post they are thinking about making them move. It wasn't official, they are just thinking about it. |

Yeah I recall that. Something about being a minor fix to make them more usable until the drone mechanics can be reworked entirely. |

If they made them move it would make them OP. They put out 700+ dps and have decent tank. |

Meh. Sentries are rather good in the situations where they can be applied right now, hardly the best ever. Increasing the number of situations in which they can be applied shouldn't break them.
I'd be more worried about them just becoming turrets than them becoming OP. |

On the topic of moving drones:
I think it would be interesting to be able to use tractor beams on sentries. This would open up some interesting strategies, where you could give up fitting guns/neuts on a Dominix (or other drone boats) for a utility of being able to drag your sentries with you as you move around.
On original topic:
Regardless of sentries being able to move or not, I think that the engines in the current models should be on the opposite side than they are in this patch. It's not a bug perse, I just think that models are not being used ideally the way they are animated now.
This was the situation before the patch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=OsCt5f5g2xU
This is where I think the sentry drone engines logically should go (it's a really old video, but the sentry drones have exhausts in it): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QLAgzc19O0&t=3m22s
For the current animation I don't have a video - but just fly out, deploy sentries and have them shoot at something and let us know what you think... |

Oh, they move alright. A grand total of 1 m/s
A tiny bit faster please, CCP? Try adding two extra zeros (i.e. 100m/s). In return, give heavies a few extra hp to balance them out.
Making them tractorable is good too. But then all your drones have to be able to be affected by targetted modules without having to actually be targetted. I.e. select drone in drone window, press F1 for tractor beam (or F2 for remote shield/armour repper). |

The new texture is gorgeous *-* But... indeed, that engine where was supposed to be their cannon is kinda weird and out of place... |

I believe they said at fanfest that they wanted to give sentries a recall function. - Mission Overhaul - Bridging the PVP / PVE Gap - -áIf the game stops teaching people to fear lowsec, maybe people will start going there? |
