Thinking about going pirate but not sure if I should do it with my main. I could make an alt and train it to be a catalyst ganker in a couple days or i could jump in right now and start ganking in about 40 minutes after a few trainings. Not too worried about money by the way.
EDIT I dont plan to just gank high sec. |

Obviously it's going to have some fairly noticeable consequences for your general life, like being constantly hunted by faction navies in high sec and not being able to be in the same place for more than a couple of seconds.
Still it can be a lot of fun too, if PvP and low/nullsec is what you want.
I would advise you to train up a few skills in remote buying and selling, so you can do business in high sec nearby without actually being there, and remember the thing called courier contracts. :)

Give it a shot, but to start with, don't shoot (or even lock) player pods.
See how you like the lowsec pirate life, then if it isn't for you, you probably still have enough sec status to get back into highsec. If you shoot (or even warp scramble) pods illegally in lowsec, you will be -9 to -9.9 fast.
Or get into highsec piracy. All the highsec buffs have led to all of the prey being in highsec, except for three types of players - jump freighters (hard to catch in low as they usually know what they are doing), explorers (also usually hard to catch) and lost/clueless people (who usually have little to ransom). Highsec piracy is booming.

Sorry but you are wrong.
I'm constantly flashy since 2010 and there weren't even a single day that I regret it.
Piracy if fun like hell, well paid job. Sure, its not for casual playing as you have to think all the time what the hell are you doing or else it ends you loosing ship or pod or both.
To the OP.
Do it with your main.
Sooner or later you will gain reputation in your area of operation and you will be proud of your flashy pixel Pirate.
Its always better to be proud of main than alt.
As a experienced pirate ill give you one advice: Be patient when you hunt, patience is everything. Watch people, learn their habbits, next time they return you will exacly know what buisness they have in your little lowsec kingdom and this knowledge will give you opportunity to set good trap on their way.
Also Hisec Piracy isn't a piracy at all. Don't be fooled by those hisec pus*ies. Only old good flashy way counts.

Thanks for all teh advice and words of wisdom. I am more of a casual player. I maybe play 2 hours during the weekdays, maybe 4 on sat and sunday. I like the idea of highsec piracy though. To me it is like the mafia in a way. I dont think there is anything wrong or cowardly about it. |

For me it still is.Piracy is low-sec , high-sec is ganking.Wardecs is neither.
But who cares about definitions when it is clear what the OP wants to achieve.

The most mafia-like operations in EVE are Miniluv and the New Order. Both demand protection money (one from freighters, the other from miners) and launch high-publicity attacks on those that do not pay.
Then there's mugging-style piracy (lowsec piracy), and there's social engineering to 'mine for suckers' (Belligerent Undesirables).
I find the last style the most fun, as you get to meet lots of new, interesting people all the time.

I know this thread is a couple days old but does any one have some recommendations for new pilot pirate corps. I tried the minerbumping high sec stuff but it really just seems like cheap thrills. I rather go after people who can fight back. |

Check out Black Dragon Fighting Society or Min0r Threat. Both are new pirate / player friendly.
I went flashy red last year about this time and I don't regret it whatsoever. Train a quick alt to do your hauling and shopping for you. |

Second this. You can get an amarr alt into a bestower in next to no time. Have him haul stuff you need from highsec. Then do what you want to do with your main, and don't worry about consequences. If you want to carebear, use your transport alt.
