Edited by: babyblue on 07/10/2005 17:12:46 I don't know why CCP and some people have such a problem with the latest Phishing Scam. The way I see it, Phishing is PvP and Eve is all about PvP. It's risk v reward. You risk getting caught and potentially jailed for the reward of stripping someone's assets and possibly selling them on.
How often do we hear of in-game scams being lauded, applauded and generally kissed on the bottom? It's all the fault of the victims, surely? They shouldn't be so stupid. Life has given us the tools to deal with this kind of thing, we should use them. What kind of idiot would fall for it anyway? They deserve everything they get!
Eve is a hardcore PvP game and scamming is actively encouraged; so, I think that phishing scams should be allowed.

Stealing accounts is not pvp.

In game scams steal in game resources.
Phishing steals real world resources.
If ccp endorsed phishing scams as you suggest the lawsuits would put them out of business inside of a week :-p

In-game scams, legal. Phishing, illegal (at least in California). Petitioning, useless.

I was attempting Satire. Feel free to join in.
What would the Phisher gain apart from "in game" resources by getting into your account and how is this different from in-game scamming? A philosophical discussion on this point would be interesting.....

When you get into people's account you can change the password and e-mail address and make it yours until the subscription runs out.People could lose the money they have paid to play EvE. Ingame scamming is ingame, it has nothing to do with happends in someone's life outside the game.
Discussion closed, phishing is not allowed and will probably never be allowed.
I heart all, some more then others though. |

Very good. Please explain then how ingame methods are used to aquire the username and password. And please elaborate on the classificatin of a username and password, i.e. are those ingame "items/valuables"?

Eh, I was going to comment but this pretty much sums it up... at the very least the person loses the value of the game purchase plus the time remaining for the month... But in reality they lose the time they put into the character which is a real world asset, and most people would agree on this. Also, although there may be no direct link between this type of phishing scam and a secondary market, there is little doubt of such a connection in my mind.

Phishing will get the phisherman (is that even a word) banned when caught and will never be allowed. No probably to it at all. PvP and all the in-game mechanics are exactly that, in-game. Phishing involves the actual loss of 'real life' possessions and or currency. Satire or not, it's apples and oranges.
