The EVE Store has undergone some changes to the inventory. The changes can be seen in this news item. Take a look at what is going and gone.
Also, from time to time, enterprising cheaters 'phish' for account information. This time, someone decided to use the name of one of the GMs. Please remember that CCP, the GM team, nor the Vols will ask for your account name and password, ever!
If you suspect a mail is a phishing attempt, always log in to Account Management from the menu to the left, and never from a link in an e-mail. This is also applicable to other e-mails, like Credit Card solicitations, Bank accounts, Ebay and Paypal, etc.

I'd like to know where the "phishers" get the e-mail addresses used for our accounts. I don't know of any way somoene outside of CCP could get the information without asking for it.

I too am concerned about this considering it wasnt just a random spam going around the net like the usual "paypal" phishing scams. It was a targeted scam, even quoting a GM's name.
There may be ways and means of obtaining this information however CCP should have procedures in place to prevent this from occurring.
Just curious how this happened as considering you also hold the credit card details, home addresses and several other tidbits of personal information about us (the subscribers), its rather worrying if you do indeed have a security leak.

I dont understand how anyone can get caught with a scam like that. Its blatently obvious that its a scam you can tell by the wording, anyone that has had an e-mail account for longer then 2 months must have recieved a ton of e-mails that try to get you to give them either details, click a link, or send it to 30 people; they are all worded simularly. Anyone on this forum like to post how they got caught by it?

If there really was a security leak, don't you think that everybody would've gotten the mail in that case?
It's not that difficult to get eve related e-mail addresses from various forums.

not necessarily. The phisher may have been rattled before they could obtain all of the email addresses. They may have only had limited access to a few email addresses, or they may have just only wanted to send a few emails out to test the waters so to speak.
The question of "how did the phisher obtain the information" still needs to be answered in my opinion, Whether its an ex moderator gone on a mad spree, or someone who has accessed records without consent... it still needs to be answered.

This has been addressed briefly in this thread Please do not accuse volunteers or old volunteers to be even interested in this, even worse is when you accuse CCP of abusing their powers because they can be fired for these kind of actions. Also not every volunteer has the ability to see your e-mail address in the first place, only a handful are given that access and we use it for recruitment mostly.
I heart all, some more then others though. |

Thank you for pointing out the other thread for me. Its reassuring to know at least that the data hasnt been compromised.
As for accusing anyone of abusing their powers. I did no such thing, I simply offered two logical conclusions that can be drawn from an announcement about a phishing scam. Many companies suffer from ex-employee discontent, it wouldnt be a strange thing to occur if indeed it was due to this.
Volunteer or not, there are rather nasty people in this world, you only need to look at the volunteer youth leaders done for child abuse, or the volunteer carers that are arrested for other formats of abuse to the elderly.
Just because someone has willingly volunteered their time to a cause, doesnt negate them from any possiblity of acting against this cause.
I didnt assume access was given out loosely either, if anything I came close to assuming that someone had obtained access via illegal means, nor did I mention anything about misuse of that information. I simply was curious as to how the security leak occured (as this is what this is, a leak of information).

We defenitly need that relative size chart linked to above, that is awesome, I would love to have that on my wall. The only thing I would add is either the names of the ships next to them or at least a legend, or a box grouping each race's ships together. I dont know for sure which one's are NPC only or from an event or actually obtainable.
Awesome work whoever put this together.

Without going into too much detail, it's possible to extract email info from your browser most of the time, or from your cookies, and in some rare instances, from this forum itself. There are also several other ways. It's entirely doable.
Also, there is the @allpossibledomains method. Alot of people use the same name for their account as their character, and in doing so, open themeselfs to this method of phishing. People, are fairly easily exploited when you really want to.
/me is not a security expert, just a long time net user that is semi savy.

OPEN REQUEST. Who owns the rights to this image?
I have contacts at a printing company, if the copyright owner will authorize, I can get a quote on mass printing this in full color, full size and then sell them to the community at cost. (plus shiping, obviously) I will provide copies of all quotes, and pricing so as to be fully transparent, this is not a money making venture on my part.

Locke, CCP owns the rights of all EVE based artwork, intellectual property, etc. If you are interested in the possibility of manufacturing the poster, your best option is to send an e-mail to [email protected]. That will put the poster in front of the Marketing Department, who have the ultimate responsibility for EVE Store items and copyrighted content.

My second concern is this... is that particular image constructed by CCP personel? If not, I would also need release from the image composer.

So true.
Most phishing scams get their email addresses from poorly secured servers running forums or NNTP threads.
Most likely the server that they stole the data from, was a corp/aliance forum server. Eay to verify this by all those that recieved a letter to report it to CCP and CCP can then correlate their emails to corps/alliances and then let the corp know they are the source.

the items used are CCP property, so you only need CCP's ok, the composer has no rights unless granted by CCP for commercial use.
