I must first state that all that I say here is me, my opinions, my thoughts. I do not speak for Electus Matari, I do not speak for my Clan, Tribe, or Corporation, just for myself, Avlynka Tarkja Surionen.
Yesterday was the single worst day of my life. I imagine, for most of us, it will be the worst day we ever experience.
We did not even have time to mourn our Chief before we were called to action against our ally in her name. So much of this, so much of the whole scenario, is so wrong, on so many levels.
We begged our fleet to return home; I did, anyway. Even had that battle been won, what of the next? To charge into a battle that cannot be won, in the name of vengeance for a woman who would never seek it? Why?
I made a choice. I chose to stand with my kin, my friends and family and corporation, and to fight. I fought because I could not leave. I was there. The fight started. My kin were fighting those who are not my kin. My choice was made.
And now, instead of mourning one death, my nation, my people, mourn tens of thousands.
I do not know what comes next, save many funerals, a long period of sorrow.
I do know what must not come next; more funerals.

"Mourn the dead, but live for those alive". Those were the words of my first commanding officer after a specially dark moment in my life. It's a lesson your nation, your navy, your corporation and your friends need to learn. Yesterday, you lived for the dead, and that always leads to more death, injustice, and sorrow. You killed those who weren't meant to die, and lost those who should have been elsewhere.
And there is no way to turn the back on those things, no way to atone for it. It eats you up inside.
You failed. You followed a rogue leader on flawed orders. And that is now written in History with blood. Sepherim Catillah Praetoria Imperialis Excubitoris Liuteneant Ex-Imperial Navy Imperator Commander |

Truer words were never spoken. We will have to live with our actions, and we can only learn from the past. |

We have experienced sorrow that no people should ever have to endure.
Although that I am sure must feel, Ava, that there is an insuperable void between us even in this age of jump bridges, and although I do not know that you would believe me when I fail to attend on any planned social function between us, please know this.
When you mourn, Ava, so must I with you.

I feel like a chump for all those years of liking the Republic, but I guess that's what they mean when they say you never really know someone until the chips are down.
Thanks for the sentiment, Ava, I guess. Nice to know that some people at least felt bad about it while they were pulling the trigger. At least we know where one another stands. Now I've got to go buy oa dress for a funeral for a friend. Bio and writing |

Against my better judgement I opened this channel. When I saw Ava's posting I decided to read it because I knew it would be thoughtful. Thank you, Sister, for expressing what so many of us are feeling now.
As to you imperials; go **** yourselves. Within your so-called "sympathies" there's always got to be a jab doesn't there?
Don't go preaching to us from your self-appointed position of moral superiority. Your leaders aren't infallible either. The last time you people followed a rogue leader giving flawed orders you got yourselves slaughtered at Vak'Atioth. You recall that little incident don't you?
Just for once can't you jackals leave us alone to grieve and to sort out our affairs without the hypocritical finger pointing and lecturing? Please?

I am getting more and more worried every hour when these tragic news keep flowing in. FIrst the shooting of Midular, then the whole dispute over the shooter between Gallente and Minmatar, now this battle and the racially charged assaults on Matari in Federation territory. If this escalates into a full-on war between Gallenteans and Matari, we will all be doomed.
Ava, I see a lot of blood, screams and death every day in my line of work, but I still can not imagine the amount of sorrow you are going through right now. My heart goes out to you and your people, and I offer my deepest and most sincere condolances. The fact that you even tried a peaceful resolution is good already, and you were not responsible for the decision to attack Gallente forces.
Now that the dust has settled over the battlefield, all that is left to do is mourn the dead, and prevent this going any worse. Immortality is overrated. |

I am very surprised how eloquent all of you are able to respond on Starfires words.
Day by day I read the news... Luminaire, the Ray of Matar now or the immortal soldiers before... things are in flow.
I really can't say how it must be for the Minmatar to loose its Chief. Or better, I couldn't before the battle in Colelie happened and still I can't feel this much pain on the death of Karin Midular like the Minmatars do. Honestly I doubt anyone truly can except them.
The only thing I can ask myself is, what would we Gallente do, if our symbol would be lost in such a brutal way and to be honest again, there isn't such a person in the Federation in my eyes.
There is just one simple truth to say, the Ray of Matar may be dead. But the Republic, the Tribes and all Minmatar aren't and how a friend of mine would say,... thank god they aren't.
I hope Karin Midular rests in peace, that her legacy will remain and her name remembered in the distant future. |

You can continue to paint me with your broad "imperial psycopath-oppressor-enslaver" brooch if you like. You can review my posts and you'll see I only take jabs when they are deserved. I decry against this invasion of Gallente space, yes, but there were no irony nor sarcasm in my words of respect for the Ray of Matar. If you just took a moment to see the person riting, and not the stereotype you want to see, you might find out that, in the end, we're not so different.
Quote:Don't go preaching to us from your self-appointed position of moral superiority. Your leaders aren't infallible either. The last time you people followed a rogue leader giving flawed orders you got yourselves slaughtered at Vak'Atioth. You recall that little incident don't you?
Vak'Athioth happend how many years ago? Oh, yes, more than a hundred years ago.
Now, on the other side of the balance: invasion of the Bleak Lands by the Defiants not 6 years ago, invasion of the Bleak Lands by the Defiants again shortly after, destruction of the Yulai CONCORD station, invasion of Amarr space, and now invasion of Gallente space.
As you can see, the balance has long ago tipped on our favor. We have the moral highground on this point not because we're great, but because the Republic continues to follow leaders unworthy that can only seek blood. So much that the Defiant leader had to be put down by the Republic itself.
Yet, I know all of these words are wasted on you, are they not? You'll go back to "you did it worse hundreds of years ago and still hold slaves" and be blind to your own faults.
[quote]Just for once can't you jackals leave us alone to grieve and to sort out our affairs without the hypocritical finger pointing and lecturing? Please?
Ironically, this is the second time I've seen you ask for this thing. And yet, when topics relating to the Amarr are opened, you are soon to post on them. So please, leave such obvious hypocrisy: this is an open international channel, if a Minmatarr alone discussion was wanted there are other places to post it than the Intergalactic Summit. I find it distasteful that you two talk about the future as though it has already been written in stone. Still, I suppose it never hurts to be cautious and act prudent.
As for Ava and the rest of my friends in the Republic, I offer my condolences. I cannot claim to understand how you all must feel right now because that would be a blatant lie. I can only hope these events cause a ripple wave of contemplation on some greater issues facing your respective societies so that something like this does not happen again. I was military for many years. So I know for fact that there are always options available when you believe the order is unlawful. Are they always good options? No. But even soldiers have a choice - to say nothing of capsuleers.
I won't fault them for standing with their family - I would have done the same thing. But I will forever fault them for following orders to breach the territory of their ally and going weapons free. They knew their actions were immoral and unlawful. They cannot claim that they didn't know violating sovereign territory with a hostile force was unlawful.
They could have stayed on the other side of the border. They could have held fire. But they didn't. The Republic was given the option to withdraw. Instead they wasted 24 dreadnaughts.
I mourn the passing of Karin Midular.
I mourn the future of those under the men and women who gave these orders more. |

Thank you, Avlynka.
Once again, the Minmatar die as pawns in some greater game of brinksmanship. Times like this I curse the freedom given to me as a capsuleer, the ability to choose to act or not. I miss the simplicity of knowing right from wrong, family from foe, tribe from stranger.

I am afraid you lost that luxury my dear when you decided to punish, for a perceived slight, those who in your time of need offered forth milk, meat and shelter. Zeal and pride are old friends, and costly.
MIdular was a capable leader. She was denied her destiny by the popular will of her own own kin. Think what rest the honors delivered up in Colelie on her day of death give her bright soul.

Your greatest friends can make the worst enemies. Especially when they try to cover up their wrongs right under your nose.
There is no way to tell what Federal politicians will conjure when they start loosing face, but most off the time it involves grasping onto those strains of power entusted to them by the electorate and use it regardless of those that gave it to them. Democrazies, pun intended, have a tendency to create their own enemies out of their friends when power is misused by its leaders. Classic tale you have been part of lately and mostly those who participate unwillingly in such a story are those who have to suffer the most.
I'm not telling you to listen to Executors, Kings, Emperors or whoever either, however, don't get me wrong. In dire times it is best to listen to oneself instead. Perhaps that is what the Minmatar should do right now. Where do you stand? What is the purpose? How can you further your causes? What are those causes and are they mine our my peoples? Are those not our enemies our allies? What is the death of one woman really worth? A lot of questions could be asked and contemplated upon. It is mostly seen through meditation and moments of solitude that the answers get less obscured.
I wish you a lot of wisdom in finding answers and making your decisions, in regard of this drama, wherever they may take you. -- Chaos always wins, it is simply better organized. |
