Ralmar Kimnot wrote:The new gate jump animation should be made optional. I find it annoying already and the first thing I did was look for the option to turn it off which doesnt exist. I just want to go to the gate, jump, load the next system and move on. I don't need to see the camera zoom away from my ship to the gate, the warp animation, and the camera zooming back onto my ship. We'll be walking in stations next
Ahhh... Walking In Station... Yes, one can still hope!! And yea, I mean I WANT WiS. If CCP had any really good content ready back when they rolled out Incarna, mebbe YOU wouldn't have liked it, but a HELLUVA lotta player would have, and it would have drawn in a whole new playerbase too...

The new jump gate animation might make me dizzy. I mean, the screen rotates to the gate, then there is flashing black and white swirlings, and then finally the screen rotates again to point where I came from. Then I select new target, so I want to look where I am going next, and that causes more screen rotation.
It would be better if the screen didn't at least rotate again when I arrive to the destination. I mean, I only arrive. Why there is a forced screen rotation to point my view backwards where I came from? The jump gates are nice, but after a thousand jumps, I just might want to look where I am going to, not where I came from.

So, yes I like new animation, but it shouldn't be like a strobo ball. If I want a strobo ball, I buy one, thank you.
The old warp animation is nice, because it is not too intrusive.
Also I don't want that any zoomings to my ship reset or something. I don't want to zoom into my ship again and again after every jump. Travelling shouldn't be like a carousel either. |

I like the new gate animation and have no issues with it.
Some of the comments being made that you cannot experience motion sickness without vestibular movement are not completely accurate. Simulator motion sickness, or visually induced motion sickness, is a known and researched problem.
Research conducted by the US Army (PDF ~500kB) found that 27% of pilots using flight simulators experienced some form of motion sickness. The stopping and starting of the flight simulation was implicated to be one of the reasons for these symptoms.
In relation to the gate animation in Eve, if a user is exposed multiple times over the course of a session to the starting and stopping motion of the jump animation then it would be reasonable to infer that it may be the culprit.
My only personal experience of visually induced motion sickness was from the canal level on Half Life 2. The hovercraft was fast moving but because I was frequently crashing, or being destroyed, I had to reload the session several times. The sudden starting and stopping of movement after concentrating on the screen made me feel quite nauseous.
There are certain moving patterns can also induce motion sickness without vestibular movement. Try staring at the centre of this animated image for several minutes to see if can affect you.

I don't necessarily have to have a factual tendency for motion sickness. I mean, if moving from a system to system feels, seems, and is like swirling through a carousel lit up with christmas lights that flash like a disco ball, I might just get fed up with it. There is no reason to agitate players unnecessarily.
So it would be good if the flashing was tuned so that it didn't flash like you were some kind of a celebrity, and would be good if at the end everything was back to normal instead of rotating back to where you were coming from. |

Being agitated, or irritated by it, sounds more like sensory overload rather than motion sickness... no offense.

i like the jump animation, but the fact the after the jump your camera angle and zoom is restored to default is irritating, i fly with a specific zoom and camera angle for a reason having to readjust every time i jump is frustrating at best.Besides it as cool few 30 40 jumps but now its just a loading screen
As for the people having problems with the flashy lights and camera shacking ans stuff... i agree with them CCP should put an option to disable/enable. This is just a loading screen its has no impact on gameplay or any role in game mechanics what so ever, so turning it on/off should not pose a problem. I stand corrected with the old jump thing u could see ships landing on grid before the new instance changes but with this one once the animation kicks in u can`t see them anymore.
PS: fix that camera reset after the jump..... |

For me the jump effect itself is actually pretty nice and have no problems with it.
I have huge issues with camera reset after every jump, that is terrible. I zoom out in a system, make a good angle I am comfortable with, then jump to next system and all I get is a huge cloaked ship on my screen with a stargate in background. Please consider making the camera to work like it is now. |

I have not seen with any graphical lag or feel any motion sickness during testing even with a non gaming laptop which is pretty dated.
I would admit that they should have made it a bit slower in the accleration instead of a instant one like the clip in Trinity trailer.

The new gate jump animation is useless. CCP please, focus yours to the real problems. |
