Ok, summed it up best I could...and added a few you missed. ;)
Curse Alliance = Everyone's favorite enemy...until Exodus.
C4 Alliance = A cool, but ultimately futie attempt to take paragon soul from Stain Alliance.
3rd Front Alliance = Carebears with big guns.
Ascendant Frontier = TheKiller8 + Xeticvs5 in 60 seconds. Nuff said.
Band of Brothers = Galactic supply of targets.
Curatores Veritatis Alliance = Amarrian RP alliance
Firmus Ixion = Quite possibly the most organized alliance in EVE...EVER.
Force of Evil = Foyle's Fanclub.
Fountain Alliance = European carebears.
Vertigo Coalition = FA's American combat pilots, after the fall of FA.
G Alliance = Ich sprecken auch Duetsch!
Imperium Alliance = Lots of fanfare in the beginning, no delivery.
Interstellar Alcohol Conglomerate = Bunch of drunks? Only guessing from the name.
Interstellar Services Department = Bunch of Jovian weirdos
Interstellar Starbase Syndicate = FANTASTIC plan and vision. Seems to be doing very well.
Mercenary Coalition = "God has a hardon for the MC, because we kill EVERYTHING we see."
NBSI Alliance = They shoot stuff that isn't blue, like me!
New Outer Ring Allied Democracy = NORAD, once fluffy bunnies, now rabid and armed with many guns.
OPUS Alliance = Noch ein anderen Duetche Alliance.
Red Alliance = Я говорю русского!
SMASH Alliance = They..uhh...got smashed?

These two are a little special to me...not to mention alltogether foncusing to newcomers. SA was the original organization that existed pre-Exodus as far back as I remember. Being CA at the time, I got many good fights...and lessons...from their pilots. Nothing but respect for the SA.
However, as for the SE, times changed quickly..coirps came and left, and it is no longer the SA I once faught and respected. That said...
The new SA I hope brings back the organization I once knew.

The Five = The Megacorps...so this is the Mega alliance? Not sure on that. Reguardless, all member corps are old and strong PvPer groups. I've foguth with and against most of them at one time or another. Real movers and shakers.
The Forsaken Empire = Uhh...buncha pirates who ate up what was left of Foyle's empire.
The Phoenix Alliance = The alliance that won't die. The great northern war...PA still lives. BoB...PA still lives. Xelas and NBSI...PA still lives. Might not be the most dynamic of alliances, but you have to give them credit for sheer survivability.
Ushra'Khan = Minmatar RP alliance
Xelas Alliance = Where all of PA's PvPers went...well, not all, just 90% of them.
XETIC Federation = The first player nation to hold elections for leadership. Good initial ideals, problem is that like Fountain, Xetic just got picked to be public enemy #1 and fell under the massive pressure.
