I name all my minmatar ships after British warships and the caldari ones after german warships.
it tends to help if you dont name them after a ship that got horribly destroyed (hms hood for example)
my first vagabond was the HMS Repulse and that lasted a whopping 3 days.
The next one, HMS Vanguard is still alive and kicking after 2 weeks.
sadly im up to like, the 6th incarnation of the KMS Bismarck (raven)

All my gallente ships start with "Emerald". Bonus points to the person who spots why.  Only downside is this kinda cuts the name size down to half...also I append a roman numeral indicating how many times I've blown the ship up basically... (number - 1  )
Incursus: Emerald Twilight (should prolly be the II or III but eh, I was young yet)
Vexor: Emerald Dawn
Catalyst: Emerald Midnight
Thorax: Emerald Storm XV (blasterax 4tw!!!)
Ares: Emerald Meteor
Enyo: Emerald Comet II
Iteron III: Emerald Mirage
Iteron III: Emerald Oasis (my other one)
Iteron IV: Emerald Impotent (kinda crappy compared to the III)
Iteron V: Emerald Ore Schlong
Dominix: Emerald Sea IV (Also named it the Cloud in the past, but just can't find a name that I'm happy with...)
Megathron: Emerald Thunder VII (Rawr, bring down the Thunder!)
Some amusing shuttle names:
Minmatar Shuttle: Elite Fighter
Minmatar Shuttle: Truth of Shadow
Minmatar Shuttle: Pirate's Delight (Not sure why?)
Gallente Shuttle: DON'T SHOOT, IT'S ME
Gallente Shuttle: Zip Ziggity Zooom
Also, instead of getting the brutix I opted instead for the Prophecy, which I named "Lux Lucis Ex Caliga" which I *think* means "Light from Darkness" in Latin, but I don't know Latin, so I'm probably wrong. If I were to get more Amarr ships in the future, you'd be sure to find latin names on them as well dealing with light and darkness.
My friend has a Deimos he named "Fluffy" after the 3 headed dog from the Harry Potter series, which I find somewhat amusing. When I eventually get around to training for HAC's I'll prolly get a Deimos and name it "Emerald Chaos". If someday, I get a really big ship (carrier) I will prolly name it the "Emerald Metaverse". Certainly a pinnacle shipname for sure.
I've never owned a Minmatar or Caldari ship. (shuttles don't count  ) I dunno what I'd name them if I did, but I would certainly pick a naming scheme and stick with it.
I do hate to see ppl running around with SuchAndSuch (ShipType) 'SuchAndSuch's ShipType'.

I try to name every single ship i got.
Battleships are all named: MNiral (Currently at MK 5 hehe)
Battle cruisers: HMS Battle B**ch
Everything else: Bipsflitsman (Random Number)
Suicidal Tendencies ( Can Guess why =D )
But i mostly fly BS's / BC's
So thats why i gave those two the best names Imho
