Well book just came out and I received my copy and read it. Awesome book. Best book since the fight at Dumai wells in Book 6(?) All the things I didn't like in Crossroads of Twilight with the unresolved plotline and lack of time spent on Rand, matt and Perrin are resolved here. Lots Matt (my favorite main character), lots of Perrin, lots of stuff about the Aes Sedai and the Seanchan. I wish a little more time was spent on Rand but still a great book.

heh
I've re-read the series each time a new book has come out but I still forget a lot of the storyline and twists.
I'm glad this new book is better than CoT - I was highly disappointed with the lack of progression.

Does Mat's "...to give up half the light of the world to save the world" fate happen in this book? I figured out what it meant from going back and rereading some previous books, and I'm wondering if it finally happens. -Wrayeth

I'm going to wait till the whole series is available before I buy any more. I'm beyond sick and tired of waiting 1 or 2 years between books.
That said, does anyone actually have a real idea of how many books there will be? Is it EVER going to end?

Two more books in the main series, according to Robert Jordan. He also wants to do one or two prequels, which he plans to write before he finishes the last book. :P
He said that when he writes the last word of the last book, he wants to be finished with it all, and that means any prequels or other things he wants to write already have to be complete.
/bangs head on desk
I.E. don't expect the series to finish for at least 8 years, since he wants to write four more books (two prequels and two main series) and it will be at least two years in between each. -Wrayeth

I thought Robert Jordan said that there would be 12 in the series - one more after this one. Needless to say, even though I thought 9 and 10 were utter crap, I'll still buy the rest just to see how he ends it.
I'm glad to hear that this latest one (which is sitting on my bed - 280 pages in) is much better than the last one. The last one just didn't resolve anything, and I got real bored with the Faile / Perrin storyline. Now I'm glad to see that moving along.
I wish I could have been his editor, because I could have compressed the past two books easily into one smaller book ________________________________________________

Well, he *did* have a full editorial cycle run on Knife of Dreams - that's why it took so long to come out. IIRC, the writing was finished last year or early this year. -Wrayeth

Tell me about it, the wait has been excruciating! Waiting months between even tentative enquiries at book shops, and finally I see it's out but noone has it in stock! Thankfully Amazon had em but though my order was shipped Friday, it's being sent by crumby delivery and I have no idea when it'll get here. I've almost totally forgotten what's happened before but I'm hoping it comes flooding back as it has in the past.
I just don't have it in me to start from the beginning again right now! It's mad that it's gone on so long, but then Goodkind's "Sword Of Truth" is coming up to book 10 itself now. I wouldn't even mind if it was only a year between em, but I can't even remember when CoT came out it was so long ago! By the time the next one comes out I'll be a grandad, we'll be flying around in Eve Online III: Genesis, with 1 gigabit DSL and we'll have colonised Neptune. Anyway, I'm really hoping to see some progress with the Rand love-triangle...errr....square Aviendah is my favourite for title of Mrs. Dragon -------------

Not too much with the love triangle unfortunately. You don't spend much time with Aviendha at all and not enough I think of Rand. Plenty of Matt and Perrin though.

Well that's not so bad I suppose. I've always liked Matt, since he whipped Elayne's older half-brother with a stick in the White Towers court yard. Perrin is cool too, but his wife can be a bit annoying with her subtle manipulating, even if she does it for his benefit. I'm really hoping my amazon order arrives tomorrow...after a 2 year wait these 2 days are hard to bear! -------------

Actually Matt beat Galad and Gawain with a stick. :) And won gold on it to boot!

Just read it. Pretty good, but seemed rushed at points, as if the author was trying to tie up plotlines and loose ends as fast as he could. Other parts were normal Robert Jordan style, though. -Wrayeth

You must be referring to the parts where he goes into exacting detail on the quality of the stiching on the leopard print underwear of passers-by? Or the colour, texture, shape and size of a rock someone may have walked past at some point? I'm all up for loose ends getting tied up...with this one and maybe 2 more left in the series, give or take, there's a lot to tie up.
I just found out my copy is waiting at home now...3 more hours of work between me and it though How much are the "Troublesome Trio" Elayne, Egwene and Nynaeve in it? A lot of braid tugging? I'll find out soon enough, hope it is worth the wait! Wonder if I cna get off work tomorrow -------------

They're around, though Nynaeve shows up for about 15 pages near the beginning, only. Most of the book focuses on Mat and Perrin (more on Mat than Perrin ). -Wrayeth

I'd almost forgotten about this series. Maybe I'll pick it up for something to read until George R.R Martin's Feast of Crows (The best fantasy series currently running btw) comes out in November.

Finally finished KoT last night 10 days after receiving it. Darn RL always getting in the way! It was a good read and I'm happier that many plots that have been previously up in the air have been tied off, leaving a handful that I'm sure Mr. Jordan is going to build up to the next book. From the insert, KoT is the "penultimate" book...so i'd expect the next one to be the last.
[Possible Spoilers] During Mat's stay with Tylin I grew quite bored of reading about him but his escapades in this one were the highlight of the book. I particularly liked his manhandling and subsequent spanking of an Aes Sedai in one of Luca's wagons. Who else in the world would do that?
My predictions for the last book...Egwene reunites the tower, Rand and Tuon make a truce for the big fight and all heck breaks loose. You have the Head Honcho Himself, Morridin & surviving chosen, darkfriends, black ajah, trollocs and the rest of the bad bunch in the red corner, including I suspect Taim and his followers among the asha'man. And in the blue corner you have Egwene's tower, Elayne's Andor, Perrin, the Seanchan, the Red Hand, the Sea Folk, Children of the Light, the Aiel and Rand.
I suspect there'll be some twist with the "You have to die to live" part of the prophecy which is something to do with the voice in Rand's head and the wound in his side. Or maybe he doesn't make it...that's a tough call. -------------
