There have been a number of threads in the recent past about the apparent lack of events in the EVE universe. An election unfinished, an empty throne, and other story arcs seem to have been left hanging, waiting for something to happen. The reasons behind this period if prime fiction inactivity have been revealed in Gnauton's new Dev Blog, "Dude, where's my plot?"

Good to hear the reasons for the static nature, I'm willing to wait practically forever as long as we get a reasoning what is the case.

Either I'm not important enough, or my account isn't flagged properly for the new feature. It's ok, I can hang out with the masses and chill out with the players. I don't need a gold box around my posts.

Kieron - demand the yellow highlights! Demand them NOW!
That devblog looks great. I love it when they take the extra 30min to type something out so that we know whats going on.
Information pacifies the rabid userbase.

That might be a possibility. Give us a couple weeks to get settled in to the new digs. If we do decide to increase the size of the Content Department, it will be announced in various places around the MyEVE pages and on the CCP Games Employment page.

I'm probably beginning to sound like a broken record in my response-to-dev-blog posts, but nonetheless:

I know, they're my disease. You should have seen it before I edited it; semicolons everywhere, almost as if I'd placed them there without realizing it.

Edited by: SengH on 14/10/2005 19:49:29 Lol that once happened to me when I started writing an essay for my english class immediately after I finished my project for my CS class. I ended up putting ; at the end of each sentence for the first couple paragraphs.

hmmm, if CCP is running out of space, they should consider telecommuting jobs...reaches more people...and those unable/unwilling to move out of their native country ---------- |

I take it aside from the degree/experience consideration, those who can't speak icelandic would be considered inelligible for any jobs CCP might have open up?
On the bright side, it can't really ever be considered a bad thing when you have a growth rate that exceeds expectations at the time. I can't help but wonder what the CCP staff would do if EVE suddenly got another 100k or more subscriptions (well, other than drink themselves retarded ).

Edited by: Gaelron on 14/10/2005 22:18:10 Actually if I remember right Pann was from Texas and there were other members of the team that might have moved after launch to be with the rest of the gang...so while I doubt they would hire many tele-commuting workers I also think if you had the qualifications they would consider it.
Edit: Oh, you got a yellow border now!

Good to see an explanation for what's going on - it was obvious that something was up behind the scenes. After a while you start to wonder whether the events stuff was just being quietly dropped altogether for some reason. If the backstory was rubbish, most people wouldn't care, but one of the attractions of Eve (for me) is that the backstory is pretty compelling and adds much to the immersion factor. Chalk up another one to being victims of your own success?

This is huge part of the reason I love Eve. The Devs actually talk to us, they say "Hey, we noticed you noticed.... and this is why" and then go on to throw in more tidbits. This is much more refreshing from other games where the devs not only don't talk to you but all but say they wouldn't if they could and hire a team of people who are good at saying nothing with many many words.
Thanks guys and gals, we appreciate it. More than you'll ever know.

We won't outgrow the new office space for a while. The new office site, from what I understand, is almost double the current space. As for telecommuting in, at the present I am one of the very few paid staff that telecommutes and that is more a function of my position than anything else. The majority of the staff work from inside the office, with a few able to telecommute in from home as required by their position within the company. However, those that do telecommute in from home still maintain an office presence. EVE is just too large a project to have programmers telecommuting in to work on game code.

That's a pretty narrow view of the capabilities of the current state of technology available to telecommuters, and of the telecommuters themselves. More work can be accomplished by developers who have minimal distractions at home than those that are constantly interruped by people in the office (personal experience there, as on days that I need to be left alone so I can concentrate on the development task at hand, I stay at home). From such a forward looking company, this policy is rather stone-aged. ---------- |

That does depend on the type of work being done and the atmousphere at the office though. Yes, a regular office where people are doing detached jobs can be distracting. The guy on the next desk leans over and starts talking about yesterdays game etc.
But I imagine most of the stuff to do with eve is done via committe or board meetings etc. Creativity comes from brainstorming so you can get all ideas together easy and in one session. That is more complicated over a conference call and nothing can beat face-to-face in that department. There is a human element you don't get over a phone, or even with webcams that is essential to working in such an environment. So working from home, despite the lack of distraction, would yeild less results in most cases. And being away from the core of developers would hinder much of the work needed. And since everyone around you works towards the same project, distractions are reduced.
But again, thats just my view and my own experience from my degree at university where a lot of it was group resource. Phoning someone and asking them something only gets a partial result. But at the same time, the odd bits that were individual and different from other peoples stuff was better done at home than in the computer room surrounded by people doing their own thing and yacking about 'fottie'.
Edit: Hey, Keiron! You got your yellow stripes! Good on ya. ------

Well there's nothing like bouncing ideas around, and of course, you need to people to tell you the flaws in your great all encompassing kick ass ideas :)
Although, flaws dont exists, just unsolved problems ;) -

Oh, and yes, t20 gave me the gold border hook-up. Can't complain about it in the least. Was a flagging issue in the MyEVE database.
