A couple of weeks ago I was browsing the For Sale section of these forums and come across a raven bpo (ME:20) starting at 500 mil with a reserve of 1 bil or something like that. One person has bid 500 mil. I ignore it as 1 bil is too much to pay if I was going to sell it on and make a profit.
Anyway, a couple of days later I notice the auction is at the top of the list. It has just finished. I am shocked to find that 40 minutes before the end, the seller said he would let it go to whatever the highest bid was. Then somone bid 525 mil. And that was that. It would appear he had one.
So a corpmate convos the guy with an alt and offers 600 mil for it, however the seller is true to his word and refuses to do a deal.
So I log onto an alt and convo the seller, pretending to be the guy who won the auction's alt. It works and I pickup the bpo for 525 mil and sell it later that night for 890 mil. A tidy profit for a few minutes work.

I'd say if they petition you're going to find your wallet missing money because I am pretty sure scamming when the auction section of the forum is involved is a big no, no.

If i was the person who was meant to be claiming this BPO i would petetion it, coz theres a difference between "legal" scamming and what you have done.

Social engineering is legal, get over it.
But he's also a filthy liar, pretending he cares about anyone. Such a blatant attention grab it makes me wonder if you wear a costume to every party you go to.
Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning.

Actually, it's not. It's a bannable offence.

It would look like just being down some ISK would be a stroke of luck for Shin Ra.

Well, look on the bright side. It isn't too much of a scam, he still paid 525 mil. But still, hehe, that was a damn good scam.

It isn't a bannable offense, though lame.
Scamming using the forums can get you forum banned, but not banned from EVE. In addition, he did not even use the forums to scam--he simply took advantage of the situation and did some social engineering. He never bid on the auction, so its not even against forum rules.
Yes, its lame.

I'll put good money on that the GM's will correct it since no matter what way you look at it, he used a forum sale to scam someone AND the rules clearly state forum and GAME impersonation is not allowed.

the seller got his 525m, the only person who lost out was the guy who actually won the auction. however, letting everyone know and acting like you did something special is sad and pathetic, not that i ever had any respect for shin ra. so i dont really care. why am i even posting here... hrmmm guess im bored at work. ------------------------------------------- "Det hõr kan betyda krig!" |

Like Dionysus Davinci said and my quote of the rules clearly says: Impersonating another player on the forums OR ingame is indeed something that can get you banned from EVE (not only forums). "Of course" they won't ban him for what he did, but still...

i think that "impersonating" is meant in RL terms, not ingame char name. Those rules are meant to protect CCP from lawsuits, as long as RL isn't concerned , and since EvE is a pvp game those kind of stuff is legal imo.

How so? The only impersonating that isn't allowed is impersonating a dev/ISD/GM. Show me where it says you can't impersonate a player, and I'll show you a few thousand people that need banning.
There have been hundreds of thefts and scams in EVE history using tricks such as "Oh I'm your CEO on another account, I need access plz" and such, and none has ever even been though to be bannable. - Proud member of the [23].
