How I would change missiles? Give them back the damage of pre-patch so the torps and cruise missiles are very unhealthy again to a frigate when they hit BUT make it so that a launcher can only fire forwards and make the manoeuvrability of a missile the deciding factor.
Here is a crappy drawing I made that hopefully makes things clearer: (don't laugh, at least I've tried )
To explain IĈll give 2 examples:
The 2 red lines is the line of fire that the ship would have if it mounted siege launchers. Because torps have the lowest manoeuvrability this ship has a huge blind spot in the back. In other words: if a hostile ship flies in its rear, it will have to turn his face towards the target if he wants his torps to hit the target.
So, if I fly in a raven with siege launchers and IĈm up against a slow battleship, than keeping my front towards my target and hitting it with even slow torpedoes wonĈt be much of a problem. However, if IĈm up against a skilled pilot in a fast moving frigate, than this frigate could easely fly out my narrow line of fire and hide in my huge blind spot. My slow-turning raven will have a very hard time to hit him with a torp. Is the frigate less carefull and just flies to my ship head on, without attempting to dodge incoming torps, he is likely to receive a lot of pain (remember: torps will do full damage again).
Example 2: small missiles (the green lines) have a huge manoeuvrability, thus significantly decreasing the blind spot in the rear of the ship. The frigate will have a hard time of avoiding incoming fire but on his plus side, light missiles do far less damage than it would from a torp
But what about current missile skills you say? Simple, they stay the same except make it that guided missile precision and target navigation prediction skills increase the manoeuvrability of your missiles instead (thus giving you a larger line of fire)
I think these changes would not only give more balance to the current missile situation but also make the fights a lot more fun this way

Interesting idea, but I could see lag being a huge problem for that system. Maybe as a way to modify your idea, give missles an agility stat. They could turn at a certain rate(X radians a sec), seige missles could still hit behind them however it would take a while to swing all the way around, and it would mean that small ships could dodge missles until their fuel ran out or they get hit. This deal with small ships taking less damage is kinda silly.

Small ships taking less dmg from torps is insane, and just a way for ccp to spread the population of eve into 0.0 space...
@ original post, lag man, fleet battles, this would be unplayable. Nice idea, just not feasible :/

an interesting idea but unless lag problems could be addressed almost impossible to implement

Aren't there hardware upgrades coming? I'm a noob in technical specs but it will make performance better right?
Glad you guys my like my idea so far anyway (wether its possible or not)

not at all, smaller planes and machines actually survive explosions better
if u threw a had granade next to a car it would be useless, but throw it next to a errrr bag and it bad would be likely to survive. would jsut be blown away ect

You were totally right if your analogy wasn't totally wrong since we are talking about direct hits after all.
We are talking about an apple vs and apple the size of a house getting hit by the same bullet

the bag would be mangled, severly, unless it is one HELL of a bag...
then you should mass produce the bag, you could replace kevlar, and make a billion $$... so you could buy a couple more eve accounts...
ofcourse, for the suggestion, I would be greatful for a couple mil (whats 5 million to 1 billion? nothing) _____________________________ NPC Asteroid Belt Bases Honor Above Self Glory For Self Strength Of Self |
