Kieron, perhaps you could ask the FFE people to program the lowest possible auto-update to say, 6 hours?

My ECM is set to update manually only... When a skill completes... Log in, set new skill, update ECM...

actaully on the subject of ecm, as a user, i'd be more than happy to have to manually update the xml from somewhere rather than ecm getting it itself..
on that subject tho... why doesnt the eve client keep a copy of the xml (up2date) in the client folder, then ecm only needs to get it from there...

Great idea, it surely would remove a lot of the requests .. But, I run ECM on a machine isn't my gaming rig, so it should still be able to get the XML from the website.
But the idea is indeed a good one. /Brannigan McCormick |

I feel its kinda my duty to respond to this thread :)
From what I remember there are two servers from myEVE, and there is an issue with the coding of the ECM, as at the last time the ECM was updated there was only one server. Consequently only that server will update. Or at least that's what I understood of it, its very confusing as my home ECM works sporadically but the one on my USB key works at uni (where I am atm). Really odd :|
The main problem with the ECM is that it requests all the information at once, consequently some of the requests are ignored and are repeated, causing multiple requests for information. This is particulary a problem for someone that uses 9 accounts on the ECM....
However, we are working on a solution: the next generation of EVE Management Tools :) This will eventually make the ECM obselete and this problem *shouldn't* happen again. Once this new tool has been created we will ask CCP to block all requests from the ECM so people will be forced to upgrade to the new tool :)
This tool isn't even in alpha testing yet, so dont ask when it will be available to the public, coz we just don't know :P
Any other questions, feel free to pop over to our forums and ask :) (providing that you search the forum to see that the question hasn't been asked already ;))

Hmmmm Am I right in thinking that ECM will only report on your skill training and cannot be used to change the training skill or kick off new skills??
Or do you need to have the client installed to be able to do this??
Cant seem to find much info on it other than to use a manual update (Which I Do) but I downloaded it to be able to change skills with out the need for a client as it wont run on my laptop.
Am I waisting my time then??

It was said very nicely, if we overload we will suffer :). So this is how we can help ourself. FIRST please SET IT to MANUAL update. Which is done this way: Tools -> Settings -> then click Update -> select from Character Information select manual option. Clear the checkmark from update at start-up. Then when u need to update click the lightbulb icon. So when u want to check what is the situation , and u know u didnt change a skill no need to update the info from the site. It is totaly for our own (players) benefit.

Edited by: N3cr0shark on 22/10/2005 23:40:04 First off, thank you!!! I missed my ECM and ability to set a training skill ingame, then sync my ECM and then have fun either playing or having a basic knowledge of when to set the next skill.
For the developers of ECM....keep up the GOOD WORK! Just a suggestion (I'll post it here since Eve-I.com still doesn't work...guess thats another good resource I'll have to learn to live without):
Maybe for the next release, you guys limit the ECM to ONLY work with a manual update and then if that doesn't do it by itself, maybe put in a longer timer (to prevent constant 'manual' updates). I know that an Hour doesn't seem like a short time, but appearently it didn't work out with what CCP could handle. This really isn't your guys fault as it's simply how others are using it. But....you know how it is.

I still get: Charactersheet disabled, Post about... blablabla
I am guessing you used a bit of selected reading and missed out all the bits that mentioned some people getting and some not untill its fully available again?
Lol - where does it say it should work for some and not for others ?
I now don't get anything at all any more. When I choose "My Character" I just stay on the same page :(
