I don't see any information really.. I also don't know a damn thing about alliances or wars except that you can attack people you are at war with in high security systems.
This makes me wonder why there aren't corporations declaring war on the "peaceful" corps who sit in 0.5-1.0 mining or running safe agent missions. If there ARE corporations doing this, how do the peaceful corps protect themselves?
It is all so perplexing.

There are a lot of corporations doing this. The peaceful corps either fight back, hire mercs or come onto the forums and whine a lot while getting killed all the time.

It does happen - it just isn't too noisy when it happens - with no forum whoring involved most of the time.
The best way to avoid it is to stay low - no big forum activity on Eve-O,
no smack in local of busy systems
no smackback on lowsec "excursions"
No overuse of hub systems
and several butchers aprons - just keep quiet, lay low and you will be passed by for meatier, noisier corps/alliances. Unless the wardeccing corp is looking for quiet victims.....

I disagree. If I was looking for an easy target, I'd look for someone with relatively new players that don't draw attention to themselves. I'm almost guaranteed that they don't have any political connections, or any hope of attracting more powerful and experienced help.
And there is indeed nothing to stop people from doing that.
As it should be. There's tons of ways to avoid actually getting ganked, anyway.

Just randomly declaring war on some corps in high sec for ISK might be a bit lame, but it definately works. Especially if your corp got a reputation, then you sometimes don`t have to fight at all, the corps just pay you to retract at the start of the war so that they can keep doing whatever they always do without having to worry about local all the time. And believe me, it`s not fun to be hunted and stay in a system with more then 150 players (it`s way better to be the hunter)

If you get wardecced take a weeks holiday from eve or stay docked while logged in and go afk, PVPers tend to have a short attention span and thus boredom is a corporations greatest tool.
However, this wont work if the Corporation or Alliance deccing you has a goal other than "give us money kthx" or "we just want targets for a week" if they want to destroy you, they will stay outside the station for aslong as required.
But the most imporatant thing is to be nice, dont let your members spout off about how the other corp sucks or theyre lame because they decced a carebear corp, youll only end up with an enemy.

Lieing low doesnt help thats true, best you can do is stay off the beaten track and dispersed so its hard to get the target corps intel. Also if extorting you extort a corp you know has wealth, not just one full of nubs, contrary to popular opinion us blackguards dont like pwning nubs its all about the moneys yo
But smacking in local etc will get you noticed and flagged for the hunters :)
Speaking from experience empire war decs are for honour or extortion.
