In my experience my heavy drones become inactive/abandoned (reliably) if I warp away from them. It seems this is not always so for Harvesters (and possibly other mining drones). Although this isn't every time, harvesters are often still active and will respond to commands after warping away, switching ships and returning to them (say, in a belt) in a ship with no drone bay. My corpmate and I discovered this today. Harvesters were launched from an Apocalypse. Warp and dock at station, switch to Bestower, return to belt in Bestower after some minutes have passed, and the harvesters were still responding to commands. In this way it is possible for a ship with no drone bay (such as an industrial) to operate mining drones.
I've personally not yet seen any industrials mining with drones, but I have heard of it occuring in another forum (on eve-i.com, someone asking "how are these people in Badgers using harvesters?"). Didn't believe it until today. This should probably be looked at, as ships without drone bays should not be able to operate drones. Even with this creative trick.
Exploit petition has been filed. Just thought I'd sound the alarm here, too.

Nice of you to post an exploit so more ppl can try it out before CCP manages to remove it, in say... 5 months.

Maybe now something will be done.
Maybe someone has the guts to post here the exploit that is enabling ppl to attack in 1.0 sec systems without geting the cops after them. _______________________________________________

Edited by: Jarjar on 04/08/2003 10:18:39 I was mining some scordite (110k) yesterday, I had to make some ammo. When I was done, I warped out, of course I forgot my drones. I warped back (in the very same ship), and the drones wouldn't answer. I had to travel to them and pick them up, one by one. Edit: Harvesters.

And here is a thought I was batting around this past weekend. I have the ability with Drones lvl4 to operate 4 drones, yet my ship will only hold 250m3 capacity. I load using 2 harvesters and a basic mining drone. My thought was to put 2 harvesters in, set them out to do their thing. Then return to station and grab 2 more harvesters and bring them out. Now technically I am supposed to be able to run 4 drones, it is not discussed whether or not I have to take all 4 drones in one trip or only capacity that is held in my drone bay.
Interesting to know if it would allow me to run 4 drones even though drone capacity would not allow the shipment of that many drones.........something to think about...hmmm

Honestly, I don't really see anything wrong with launching your drones and coming back in another ship to reap their mining. Your skills dictate how many you can control, and your ship just limits how many you can carry. I don't think the ship should limit you on whether you can control them or not. Unless there was some kind of ship specifc computer that controlled the drones....

Using this logic anyone that has a thorax should be able to control as many drones as they can fit in it.

No, you can still only control as many as your skills allow.
Iso, you should know, one of your staff was the first to report this exploit to the GM's. He was told not to worry about it too much, or words to that effect.
anyway, it's not a huge advantage you get anyway, due to time taken to setup. Plus there's the risk of leaving your drones out as you run off to switch ships.
you'll probably still mine faster in 'rax. .

ciel, as far as i am concerned, this is in no way an exploit.
Just because a ship can not carry drones does not mean that a ship can not use drones.

It would be fascinating to see a 2 man blockade and 1000 heavy drones :P...the fascination would easily decease as the lag engulfs u in to a lock/scramble

Well, i have one view of the mater, The pirets use drones often to guard astriods belts (spawd drones). So for heavens sake way cant I set up some automatic drone actions?
But heres a twist I would like to see.
I like to see a drone controleing unit. I could lunch it as a drone, but all it dose is to give other drones commands. And then I would like to transfer my drones to the command of the commanding drone.
Then I no longer controle the drones but the controling drone dose, So anyone can steal thows drones without concord punishing them.
I could even go away and come back few hours laiter to pick up lodes of ore, or to see all my drones gone.
I would ofcours place lodes of figthing drones under the command of a commanding drone.
now one commanding drone cant opperate automatic commands for more drones then so much. So I need lodes of commanding drones, and thay need to be expensive, and vonurable.
So now we have a astr. belt filled with harvesters, vasps and controling drones. and lotes of flotesmans filled with valuable ore. Isint it a lot of profit to go in, kill the commanding drones, steal the harversters and vasps, and all the ore!!!
well, scrap thet idee..
but I like to be able to put some drones thet act as piret drones in my command, to do sertan tasks.
And I would like to build a space stasion.
I would like to see repar-drones flying around spacestations, and I like them to requier constatn repear.
So one can acsuly kill a space station by only killing off all the repear drones,
