I'm running Win XP pro x64 and I'm having trouble with eve hanging on me during the map part of the tutorial. It always hangs during that after a few rotations/zooms on the map. I know a number of people have said that eve works fine on x64 so I'm hoping I can get it working as well.
My hardware is:
AMD 64 2X 4400+ Asus A8N-SLI Premium eVGA geforce 7800GT Dell 2405FPW monitor 2x1GB OCZ DDR400
The only somewhat unusual thing is that I have this huge 24" 1920x1200 monitor.
I'm going to try running it in different "compatibilty modes" and with the resolution set to lower values.
If anyone has any ideas for me please let me know. I'm on my 14 day t rial and I'm hoping to be able to play before it's over.

Are you running in 32-bit compatability mode? Because from what I understand, EVE no like 64-bit.

Braggart!
And also check your video drivers and make sure your directX is the latest version.

Thanks for the replies.
What video cards do you guys who are having no trouble have?
I'm pretty sure I'm running this in 32 bit compatibility mode because I don't think I have a choice. Win32 apps basically have to run in 32 bit mode or they don't run at all. Also, I went into properties and set the compatibility mode to Windows 2000 just to see if it would help.
I think that most of my hangs have been when I was trying to run BitTorrent downloads in the background. That might be my problem. I've been able to play the game quite a bit without too much trouble when I wasn't running BitTorrent. I have had to delete my cache folder to get back in after a couple of hangs though.
I have the latest video drivers for my 7800GT, and dxdiag says that I have DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) for the 32 bit dxdiag. 64 bit DxDiag says the same thing.
So, I'm still not sure what's going on. On top of all this it seems like the fan on my video card no longer runs full blast until windows starts (or maybe it's running full blast all the time now and it isn't slowing down when windows starts.) And I can't check it because nVidia doesn't have a 64 bit version of nTune. The GPU could be frying itself for all I know.
I may just have to give up and install 32 bit xp pro.

My setup is similar to yours, I have same troubles, and now I even cant enter the game anymore. I was in a middle of a battle when this happened. I can connect but I cannot load the character selection("entering game as nickname")

Eve does not run very well on most 64-bit systems (we have a member in our Corp with the same problems)
In fact, very few games support 64-bit |

I've been playing for a week mostly with no problems, but occasionally the whole system locks up when viewing the starmap. Generally speaking I haven't seen a whole lot ogfbenefit to runing x64 and I have seen a decent amount of trouble. I should have just bought a copy of 32 bit XP..... oh well.

It's fine on my setup (4400 x2, Abit AN8 SLI, 2x 1Gb Corsair XMS TwinX, 7800GT, 2x 19"TFT) on Win XP Pro SP2.
However, I did have issues where the FPS would jump up and down and it was resolved by looking at:
http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?id=896256 ( i made the registry change first)
The installing the update which is here
And last but not least installing the AMD x2 driver
works a treat now without having to set affinity to a single core.
