So I decided that I want to do research with level 3 agents. I have a Lai Dai standing above 3.0.. which is good.
My problem is that I am having difficulty moving my Caldari State faction much above 4.40 (boosted with connections 3 from 3.64). I find that level 3 missions have no impact. Storyline missions seem to be the only route open.
How do I get storyline missions to come up? It seems like if I do missions with new Caldari state Corps (Poksu, etc...) storyline missions appear.
Any thoughts?
I am not currently able to do level 4 missions (do not have the skills or tech II weaponry).

Storyline missions appear periodically (I think it is every twelve' normal' missions though I may be wrong on the number).

only storyline missions affect faction standings.
its approx every 16 missions to trigger a storyline but this is affected if u turn down any missions.

got it. Thanks.
How does turning down the mission impact? Does it just not count toward the total? or does the counter restart at zero?

the higher your standigns with a corp/faction, the less returns you get. So it keeps getting harder and harder to go higher nad higher.

Edited by: capt on 24/10/2005 11:18:48 All this talk about faction standing.......
Faction standing is the one thing that doesn't affect "r&d" agents. And only r&d agents....
Look me up in game and look at my "faction" standing, every minmatar agent in game from the highest qualtiy to the lowest is at my feet begging for a lil' lubbing........except for the r&d agents. Even with faction standing 10 you can't get access to a high quality r&d agent if your corp standing isn't good enough.
For r&d agents it all comes down to your standings with the corp that the r&d agent belongs to. And for raising you standings with a certain corp you just need to grind lots and lots of missions which raise your corp standing and hope that the important missions that you get are also for the same corp. (which is not always the case)

Actually, for R and D agents, you need two kinds of standing which usually boils down to faction and corp standing since you cannot "gain" personal standing with any of them.

Right:
My Lai Dai Corps standing is great... I can boost that easily... same with my Caldari Navy Standing (currently at over 9.0)
It's the faction standing I need to boost up... but I think I see what I need to do now: just keep running missions (and accruing money) and wait for the storyline missions to hit.
I was just wondering if there was a quicker way. The answer is "no".
I appreciate the help.

COSMOS agents give important (faction boosting) missions at the end of their particular story thread.
These can be as little as 2 missions.

Then you c nothing. But neither blindness nor ignorance shall keep you from posting to a message board. I'm pretty sure that's in the TOS somewhere. |

i have lvl 4 research agents for caldari and i have nowhere NEAR the faction standings needed for that. I could get a lvl 4 gallante research agent too and i have negative faction there. So its corp dependent only.

Apparently, I'm not explaining this well enough. Maybe I should go into 4-year-old/Caldari mode? You actually have it backwards - and I'm biting my tongue here to avoid the obvious wise*****.
Research agents, like all other agents, require a miniumum personal, corporation or faction standing to become accessible:
Required Minimum Standing = [(Agent Level - 1) * 2] + (Agent Quality * 5) / 100
Additionally, they also require a minimum corporation standing to become accessible:
Required Minimum Corporation Standing for Research Agents = [(Agent Level - 2) * 2) + (Agent Quality * 5) / 100
Consequently, you will always need two standing values to access a research agent: corporation standing is inevitable but you also need a second (and higher) personal, corporation or faction standing before they will talk to you.
If you corporation standing is very high and your faction standing is lousy, corporation standing alone can work because it is checked twice.
There, did that register now?
Incidentally, having checkd your standings, I'd dispute that you can access any Gallente (Yes, that's how we spell it) research agent since you have no corporation standing with any Gallente research corporation whatsoever.
Next.

lvl 4 Q: 8 r&d agent.
So if u have a Corp standing of 6.4 for the said corporation agent belongs to, then you can use it.

This is a myth. I got an L4 story mission after completing 16 missions for my L4 agent. And I declined at least a dozen missions in that time, if not far more. I only accept the "easy" missions because I don't want to risk my ship. Including one where I suffered a penalty since it was the 2nd within 4 hours. Maybe failing a mission counts against you but declining clearly does not. I know I failed the first L4 I attempted - it was simply way beyond my ability at the time. I think that was the agent in Lagsu, err Oursulaert which I have abandoned.

Are you trying to win some sort of prize?
I never said that corporation standing alone was insufficient. I pointed out that is was not necessarily sufficient.

Do cosmos missions. Someone already said it but it should be repeated. Fastest way to get caldari standing.

Most agents require u to meet one of the standing reqirements.
IE : Personal, corp, faction
R'n'D agents require you to meet two of them. it dont matter what they are.

I take it the noob or starter corps have low standings to the R&D agents then.

They have none. Nor do they need any. Agents are only interested in YOUR stanndings.
